Ansett-ANA Flight 325
[edit]Hi Djbcjk. Today you made some changes to the entry for Aileen Keldie in the Australian Dictionary of Biography. I have tried the link and found it no longer takes the reader to Aileen Keldie. Your changes don't appear to work. Dolphin (t) 05:35, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Hi Jeanette?
[edit]Thanks for your additions/corrections to Frederic Bonney. Hope you see the article as a compliment and complement to your book. If you have access to more/better pictures then it would be good to use them. The article will be mentioned on the Wikipedia front page in next few days or so and hundreds (at least) will read it and thousands and more will see it. Roger Victuallers (talk) 12:13, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
G'day Roger - Got your message, thanks and by the way I'm Robert. It's wonderful this article will feature on main page. All I want to correct now is Paarkantji to Paakantyi, according to the latest spelling of linguist Luise Hercus. Have done so in Bonney article and in the Paarkantji article it cross-refs to, but can't see for the life of me how to change that latter article's heading. Any help?Djbcjk (talk) 13:12, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
- Immediately to the left of the Search box is a tab labeled More. When you select the "More" tab it offers an option called Move. Use this "Move" option to nominate an alternative name for the page. Dolphin (t) 06:12, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Flight 325 recorded communications
[edit]Thanks for the advice. BTW Dolphin, I notice you're the originator of the article on Ansett-ANA Flight 325. I'm glad you've fixed my mistakes there. My dad, Stan Lindsay, was pilot on that flight and I've often wanted to include a ref to a pdf (which I can supply) of the recorded communications in the control tower at Mascot on the night of the crash (it must have come from Spicer's report). I can send you the pdf and you can work out how to include it -- but does it smell too much like Original Research? Djbcjk (talk) 07:00, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Djbcjk. I'm very sorry to hear that your father was lost in VH-TVC. It must have been very hard on you and your siblings and especially your mother. A record of voice communications related to the crash of VH-TVC would be valuable. Please send me either a link to the web-site that hosts this .pdf, or if that doesn't exist, the .pdf file itself. I will be happy to find a way to incorporate it in the article. No, it doesn't look a bit like original research.
- Yes, I originated articles on three of the four crashes of Australian-registered Viscounts. The other two are VH-RMI and VH-RMQ. The one I haven't done yet is the first Australian-registered Viscount. It crashed at Mangalore on a training flight on 31 October 1954, before the type even entered service in Australia. The following web link might work if you copy it and paste it into your web browser:
- http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/23458910?searchTerm=Viscount Mangalore&searchLimits=exactPhrase|||anyWords|||notWords|||requestHandler|||dateFrom=1954-01-01|||dateTo=1959-12-31|||l-advtitle=13|||l-advcategory=Article|||l-word=*ignore*%7C*ignore*|||l-illustrated=*ignore*%7C*ignore*|||sortby=dateAsc
- Cheers! Dolphin (t) 02:46, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- Dolphin, the pdf isn't online. How can I send it to you? I haven't learnt enough to be able to communicate other than by editing this page. How for example do I send an alert message which shows up on your wiki page? And how do I send an attachment? Djbcjk (talk) 03:28, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- In the extreme left column of any User page or User talk page you will see three headings - "Interaction", "Tools" and "Languages". Under Tools, the fifth option is "Email this user" which allows you to send an email to the User's nominated email address, if that User has supplied an email address for this purpose. Go to the User's page (in my case it is User:Dolphin51.) Click on "Email this user" and you will be able to send an email which will be invisible to everyone else and so completely confidential. You can attach documents in the usual way.
- You can add an alert to any User talk page. It is called the Talkback banner. Just paste {{Talkback|Djbcjk}} at the bottom of the User's Talk page and it will alert that User to take a look at your User Talk page. More information is available at Template:Talkback. Give it a try using the Sandbox. However, it is customary that if a conversation begins on your Talk page it should continue to completion on your Talk page, not on the other User's Talk page. The Watchlist function is extremely useful for monitoring articles of interest and User Talk pages of interest. Information about a personal Watchlist is available at Wikipedia:Watchlist. Cheers. Dolphin (t) 03:56, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Dophin, I shall let most of the wiki-information absorb for a while. However, I can access your User page and I can email you, but I can't see anywhere where I can 'attach documents in the usual way'. Djbcjk (talk) 05:06, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- You are right! I have used the Wikipedia email system to send you an email with my private email address. You can send the .pdf file to me at that address. Cheers. Dolphin (t) 05:38, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
- The .pdf file has turned up. Thanks for that. I will now give some thought to the best way to legitimately incorporate it into the article so anyone can access it. Dolphin (t) 09:41, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
The best way to make your .pdf file available on the internet and insert it in Ansett-ANA Flight 325 appears to be to upload it to Wikimedia Commons. It is then very easy to insert it in any Wikipedia article where it would be appropriate. I have spent the last couple of days teaching myself how to upload files to Wikimedia Commons. (See the two photographs I have recently added to Duigan pusher biplane.) It is a bit like riding a bicycle, very easy except when you are learning!
We can proceed in either of two ways: you could register as a User on Commons and upload your document yourself; or you could give me permission to upload it on your behalf. Let me know which way you want to go. Cheers. Dolphin (t) 11:46, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- I was thinking of Commons, too. It'd be far easier if you uploaded it, and I give you full permission to do so. Djbcjk (talk) 12:27, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- I tried to upload your .pdf file to the Commons but there are some licensing questions that end up being rather intimidating. I have asked for assistance at one of the Help desks on the Commons. See my diff. We will see what answer comes forth! Dolphin (t) 12:07, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
DYK for Frederic Bonney
[edit]On 7 July 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Frederic Bonney, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Frederic Bonney took photographs of the Paarkantji people, whom he respected for their loyalty and integrity? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Frederic Bonney. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Disambiguation link notification for September 23
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited John Mulvaney, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rhys Jones. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Bring together Paakantyi and Barkindji?
[edit]Dear Djbcjk, I was making some additions to the Barkindji page, and then realised there was also a page at Paakantyi. Do you think it would be good to merge the info onto the 'P' page, with a redirect? Or perhaps with a comment on the B page about how B is in very general use, and then a redirect? With best wishes Pennyw (talk) 10:08, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
Dear Penny. I think we really need just one page. The main page should be 'P' with a redirect from 'B'. Do the redirect, and make a comment on the 'B' page saying the spelling is now deprecated because 1) there is no 'r' in the traditional (rhotic) pronunciation (ie you don't say 'Bark' as an American would) and 2) the first 'i' is definitely misleading as the sound was 'a'. Nevertheless the 'B' spelling is more easily comprehensible. I think there should be a cross-ref to the Frederic Bonney page as well Cheers Djbcjk (talk) 00:35, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
