- Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
- It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
- If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
- Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
- When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
- If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
- Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.
Happy editing! Cheers, 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 13:54, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Clare Nassanga. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted.
On Wikimedia Commons almost all of the pictures you have uploaded are being qeried. Some are obvious copyright violations, others require their licences to be resolved. That is being discussed there and will not be discussed here. It is a technical licencing matter.
Here, I am interested in the two that remain, which you declare to have been taken by you. Potentially, you asked Omanuk to pose for you; you also state on Commons that you have received material from Omanuk. Is Omanuk known to you, and thus do you have a conflict of interest, please? 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 07:43, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello,
- He is not known to me. I just saw the kind of work that he does and thought of making an article about him. I requested him to send me photos via email plus more relevant information that i needed to create the article. Clare Nassanga (talk) 10:20, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I affirm that I do not have any conflict of interest and its why i seek guidance. Is it prohibited to request for photos from the subject you are requesting the information from.
- I also did not request for any payment from the subject. Do i also have to request for a payment. Clare Nassanga (talk) 10:28, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- You have stated clearly that you do not have a conflict of interest and are not compensated for your work. Thank you. That is all that is required under the rules 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:18, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Requesting photographs is fine. However, they must be freely licenced by the copyright owner. That is unlikely to be the subject of the photo.
- Ownership or possession of a photo, proprietorship of the equipment used to take the photo, or being the subject of the photo does not equate holding the copyright. The copyright holder is the photographer (i.e. the person who took the photo), rather than the subject (the person who appears in the photo) or the person possessing the photo, unless transferred by operation of law (e.g. inheritance, etc.) or by contract (written and signed by the copyright holder, and explicitly transfers the copyright). Evidence of any transfer of licencing must be sent via c:COM:VRT
- Without the correct licencing by the copyright owner, the pictures on Commons will be deleted. That needs to be discussed on Commons. Wikipedia is not concerned with Commons business 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 21:22, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
