Expanding Wessex rulers

Do you have access to the Oxford DNB? The articles on Anglo-Saxon rulers are generally rather good. If you don't, Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange can likely help. Also first class are Dr Sean Miller's website, anglo-saxons.net and the dreaded Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England. Angus McLellan (Talk) 19:39, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello Cameron. Either I've suffered an Archive memory lapse or that articles' talk page can't be archived - I'm unable to archive it. Would you do the honors for me? GoodDay (talk) 22:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Okie Dokie, thanks. GoodDay (talk) 13:32, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cameron,

I noticed that you have used the above image from flickr.com, unfortunately it was under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial License and therefore it cannot be used in Wikipedia or WikiMedia Commons. I live in Cardiff and I will be happy to try to take a photo of Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf in Cardiff City Hall in the next week or so. It will not be as good as the photo on Flickr, it will be a bit of a tourist photo, if you know what I mean. Seth Whales (talk) 09:57, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I will try to take as many photos as I can. The images that I could take are listed on City Hall, Cardiff. As I say I will try to take all that I can for you. Regards Seth Whales (talk) 10:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Davros

They aren't actually photos of Davros, at least not all of him, but photos of a "half-Dalek" prop - ie the bottom half is recognizably Dalek, much like Davros' transportation device. There's no top half suggesting that, if it is supposed to be Davros, the top half will be CGI. I saw it on YouTube by someone who was on location watching the filming of scenes from the finale on the streets of Cardiff. I'm just looking for it again now. Type 40 (talk) 16:22, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Not clearcut but in the first two pictures that looks to me like Davros' travelling machine rather than a Dalek.[1] Type 40 (talk) 17:03, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

My account

Cameron - sorry for trying to recover my own Wikipedia password - my name is also Cameron. Feel free to delete this message. I am trying to recover my wikipedia login and password but the Wikipedia tools are poot in this regard. Ah well, thousands of edits are gone now and I will have to start over. Time sure does slip bye, I'm becoming an old Wikipedian. Thanks for the recognition & notification. GoodDay (talk) 21:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliment. I'm just not Administrator material; I couldn't handle the workload. But, it sure is nice to know I've got at least one supporter. GoodDay (talk) 21:22, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Nay! IMO, There's others out there (like that fella named Cameron), who'd make an excellant Administrator. I'm waiting for when you're eligible, to support your RfA. GoodDay (talk) 21:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Interesting. I'll read up on it sometime (but that's all). GoodDay (talk) 21:37, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

"The Poison Sky"

Hi! Presumably an accident, but you failed to explain why you reverted my removal of assumption from mentioned article. Please note that following policy is not optional. Matthew (talk) 17:31, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I have watched the episode. Wikipedia does not work on assumption. It's true, The Doctor may be referring to that episode; however, assumption is not a reliable source. Matthew (talk) 17:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Go ahead and start a discussion. The discussion, however, will not make original research acceptable. A simple resolution would be to add a source to back up the claim. Matthew (talk) 17:58, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I dreamt that, that article was being considered for deletion. Tell me it's just a nightmare? GoodDay (talk) 20:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Howabout a simple title change. Just don't delete or re-direct. GoodDay (talk) 20:36, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

In agreement, Commonwealth kingdom should be deleted. GoodDay (talk) 20:45, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Due to the fact, that I've no sources? I've chosen to end my oppostion, to a deletion or merging (into Commonwealth of Nations, of the Commonwealth republic article. GoodDay (talk) 21:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Keeping my fingers crossed. GoodDay (talk) 21:13, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank so ever so much for the compliment, Cameron. They're really only short articles and one has been unfortunately deleted, due to lack of notability.I'm interested primarily in writing about medieval women and the fact that not all were merely henin-wearing child-breeders.For instance, my last article on Margaret de Bohun states that she was a scholar and book-collector, despite having born 18 kids!!!Are you from northern England, by the way? Cheers.Jeannejeanne (talk) 06:21, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:Not too long now...

Their comments do not give the process justice, but that is their opinion and it can't be helped. My goal is to coach you so well that they are too stunned to complain about the coaching :). When WBOSITG's ends on the 13th, we can get started! Malinaccier (talk) 21:27, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

No, it's really up to you. I don't mind if you go slow, but if you'd rather concentrate on exams (wise choice), then we can wait! Malinaccier Public (talk) 11:57, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Lord

That took some figuring out! :) A "/" was missing in your reference in the previous paragraph, and for some reason that was hiding the second paragraph. The diff will show which one it was. I don't quite know why it did that, but at least it's fixed now. :) Thanks, PeterSymonds | talk 12:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

After analysing your contributions, I've granted you the rollback tool for reverting blatant vandalism. It's much quicker than undo so it speeds up editing, but please ensure that the edit you're reverting is vandalism. Good faith edits should still be undone with the undo feature as it allows you to enter an edit summary of explanation. Please visit Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback to practice and ask if you need help. I'm sure you'll make great use of the tool, but if you don't want it just ask me and I'll remove it. Best, PeterSymonds | talk 11:05, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

No probs! As I say, I'm sure you'll make great use of the tool. My first user rights change. :D Thanks for the congrats and your support in my RfA, and you know where to find me should you need anything! Best, PeterSymonds | talk 11:43, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Congradulations Cameron; having Rollback duties kinda makes you a Deputy Administrator. Next step - Administratorship. PS- Thanks for the Smile, I feel giddy all over. GoodDay (talk) 14:11, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I did avoid it. Rollback duties are best handled by those (like yourself) who can perform them properly. I'm just content to remain as I've been these last 2.5 years. Guess I'm delivering another Sherman statement. GoodDay (talk) 14:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

My RfA

Hi Cameron; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. If you need anything, or notice something that bothers you, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again, PeterSymonds | talk 21:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, you've heard this before, but why break a good chain? :) PeterSymonds | talk 21:57, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Tehe, well I'd already thanked you, so you've heard it before. I was going through the chain of people that had supported me. =) It was late and I gave up in the end, only thanking those that I hadn't thanked already! Best, PeterSymonds | talk 15:23, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Wikiproject Commonwealth realms

Hi Cameron! Thanks for the contact,

I have to say, I'm fairly pleased with the state of affairs at my RFA. I expected opposition from different users, with different reasons! So, so-far-so-good!... I have to thank you now for your support, it was very kind.... as for the status issue, sure, I will change my status if all goes well. I also plan to update my userpage then too, to include our project userbox :) Thanks again, --Jza84 |  Talk  19:07, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I had noticed your coaching actually! I think u'd be a fine admin, probably certainly better than me! Not sure if you've done it before, but certainly an FA under your belt seems to put you in good standing, and I think that would help your candidature along nicely. :) --Jza84 |  Talk  19:27, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
As Malleus said ([2]), an FA takes a long, long time and lots of dedication. They get easier with time though (I believe). Best bet would be to pick a topic, one you really felt passionate about and think would be a feasible article to renovate, and build it up to the featured article criteria. You're closely involved with the Commonwealth realms stuff, so perhaps ask the team what they felt would be a good one to do?
Just out of curiousity, and you don't have to answer, what nationality are you? I keep thinking I'm talking to a Canadian, but I'm not sure where I've got that info from! --Jza84 |  Talk  23:35, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:Conflict

I replied on the coaching page. Malinaccier (talk) 22:02, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I would certainly revise it. Malinaccier (talk) 22:58, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, plus people definitely would frown upon copying and pasting answers into your RFA. :) Malinaccier (talk) 23:03, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:Status

StatusBot depends on whether you are actively contributing. Oftentimes, I am reading articles or chatting on IRC (Therefore I am available, but not editing) and StatusBot displays my status as Offline. Changing your status manually is much better in my opinion. Malinaccier (talk) 17:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Malleus

Hi Cameron,

Just a quick nudge that your support at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Malleus Fatuarum 2 is in the wrong section!... that is, unless you meant to state you are neutral! :) --Jza84 |  Talk  11:23, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

without explaining the valid reason for the removal in the edit summary.

Do you have a reading problem? Since you know, I DID leave a detailed edit summary. If you are going to template people, make sure the template actually makes sense in the context of what you are doing. --87.112.82.25 (talk) 11:41, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

and what's not valid about removing original research? unless you are claiming that material was sourced and the references are somehow hidden from sight? --87.112.82.25 (talk) 11:46, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

READ what you are reverting back in - you think that the following unsourced statement should be included as it currently written here. It's irrelevant how hard people work on a page, what's relevant is that it confirms to our fundamental practices and policies. That page is in multiple breach for a number of reasons:

1) we don't do guess work ("it can be postulated that...")

2) We don't do original research ("a popular fan theory is..)

3) We don't do novel systhesis ("Character X is an alien, therefore we can assume that he ages at a different rate to a human").

Why you feel that normal wikipedia best practice should not operate on that page is beyond me. --87.112.82.25 (talk) 13:00, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

trying to game 3rr

Do NOT attempt this again, this is straight forward attempt to game 3rr by using a meat-puppet. That is a blockable offensive (don't take my word for it, go and ask any admin you feel like). --87.112.82.25 (talk) 13:03, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Cameron, I'm afraid this user is right; this action could be interpretted as gaming the system, which we should seek to avoid! Doctor Who isn't a topic I'm very knowledgable about and so I couldn't possibly dechipher if 87.112.82.25 is removing legitimate content, or unsourced spin. Certainly there are no clear references for that material, so policy favours him (AFAICT). What does the Doc Who WikiProject say? Sorry I can't be of much use with this one. :( --Jza84 |  Talk  13:09, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello Cameron/Archive/May08! I'd like to leave a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully today (and to my surprise) with 83 supports, 4 opposes, and 2 neutral. What I have taken back from my RFA is that I've perhaps been too robust in debate and I will endevour to improve upon that aspect of my usership. I would like to thank you again and state here that I will not let any of my fellow Wikipedian's down. Thanks again! --Jza84 |  Talk  11:31, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad to see Nepal become a republic. However, I'm not too fussy about the Communist having control. GoodDay (talk) 17:21, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

One can never fully predict the future. Who knows, a Republic may not work out & Nepal may change back to a monarchy. It's happend before, in other countries. GoodDay (talk) 17:44, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, I can see your logic. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I can live with it. Certainly the article is now clearer than it was, and for that we must all thank you.
Note, however, that one of your edit summaries said you would be adding references, but I don't notice any new ones ...
