RfA Results and Thanks

[edit]
Bhadani/Archive07, thank you for your constructive opposition in my recent RfA. Although it did not succeed as no consensus was declared (final: 65/29/7), I know that there is always an opportunity to request adminship again. In the meantime, I will do my best to address your concerns in the hope that when the opportunity for adminship arises once again, you will reconsider your position. If at any time I make any mistakes or if you would like to comment on my contributions to Wikipedia, you are more than welcome to do so. Regardless of your religious, cultural, and personal beliefs, I pray that whatever and whoever motivates you in life continues to guide you on the most righteous path.

I was not against you - I wanted to give you more time: time to talk more, to discuss more, and to continue to see more pages to have better feel of the Project. I am sure that you shall one day graduate to the adminship... life is dynamic. --Bhadani 13:22, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking advice

[edit]

I created the M.P. Birla Foundation article and somebody named Jeffrey O. Gustafson proposed its deletion 3 minutes later. I posted a note to his talk page - hopefully he will remove the deletion thingy himself. Just FYI. Also please look at Birla Foundation and possibly add any other foundations that you know of. I don't think these two are the only ones -- I think there may be another that is older. --Smithfarm 10:36, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Update Jeffrey told me to remove the prod tag from the article. --Smithfarm 10:45, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article view on Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer

[edit]

The artile (Gaya District) view differently on the Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. I've tried to fix the problem partly. While formating the "Contents" block overlaps with the Gaya District toolbox if I put the image (Map of Gaya) on the centre in the Mozilla browser. While in the Internet Explorer browser if I put the image (Map of Gaya) on the Centre, it moves down below the toolbox and it doesn't looks nice.

So, on the whole, if you happens to know how to fix it, please open the article Gaya District on both the browsers and make the article look the same in Internet Explorer as it in the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Thanks. --Gunjanarya 23:01, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It looks fine in Firefox. In IE, it's terrible. I've posted your question here [1]. Maybe someone there knows what to do. If the problem still isn't resolved, let me know. :) GfloresTalk 23:32, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bihar Tourism

[edit]

Dear Bhadani,

You are probably the only person i know in Wikipedia who is taking interest in developing the stubs related to tourists attrations in Bihar. I think a lot needs to be done in this area and we need to collect and supply more information on Wikipedia.

Places of tourist and historical interest in Bihar like Rajgir, Nalanda and Vaishali deserve more coverage than is provided as of now. As for the other two cities Gaya and Patna, a good amount of work has already been done. I'm personally looking after Gaya and tend to move to other places also. For, this i'll require your support and guidance.

By the way, if you don't mind, i would like to know about you in a greater detail.

Thanks and Regards.

--Gunjanarya 23:17, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page:

  • Hello Gunjan, it is nice meeting you. Please continue the good work. Kindly continue to contribute regularly, we have to cover a lot about Bihar and Jharkhand.
  • You want to know about me in greater detail _ plz send me an e-mail, and I shall send you my history and geography. You belong to Sherghati, and my in-laws are from Gaya. We should work together to give adequate coverage to Bihar and Jharkhand in wikipedia - two states of more than 110000000 people, and so little on wikipedia pains me a lot. We do not have even an independent page on Pataliputra so sad indeed. --Bhadani 10:10, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Markandeya

[edit]

Bhadaniji, is your Markandeya a different puranic person from the commonly known devotee of Shiva? I ask, because from the stories I know, Markandeya was born after many prayers by his parents, who chose a short-lived but brilliant son rather than a long-lived duffer (same story as Shankaracharya). He was supposed to die at age 16. When Yama came to take him away, be clung to a Lingam and lord Shiva himself appeared to protect him and restore him to his parents. Story is linked to the Srisailam Jyotirlingam. Please let me know whether disambiguation is needed or expansion is needed. Also, without saying hello to you for long, I am feeling lonely. Reply soon. Regards, ImpuMozhi 04:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page:

  • As far as I know there is only one Markandeya - the page is still a stub, and certainly require more contents. I am studying the matter further, and would add more contents. In case, you would like to contribute, plz feel free to do so. And, thanks for the wishes. Thanks.

Faisalabad District and City

[edit]

Dear Bhadaniji, I have just noticed that you removed the redirect on Faisalabad District. At the moment, Faisalabad District and Faisalabad City are exactly the same thing but the former definition of Faisalabad City was as one of six tehsils in Faisalabad District. Most of the current third tier of government in Pakistan are ordinary districts with tehsils as their subdivisions. However, the Islamabad, the provincial capitals and some larger cities form a slightly different type of district called City-District with towns instead of tehsils as subdivisions. I am going to restore the redirect and add Faisalabad City District as another redirect to Faisalabad because I think the city name on it's own should be the place for the article. I hope that makes sense, because typing when you're tired is an invitation for typing nonsense sometimes :) Green Giant 22:19, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply

[edit]

Hello my wiki-friend. My earlier experience of working and inter-acting with you was perhaps not of your liking, and left a bitter taste. I am now recovering from a serious ailment, and would avoid talking to editors who believe in lowering the credibility of wikipedia, and pouring "the deluge of nonsense that threatens it (wikipedia) every day" - to quote SlimVirgin. You are competent enough and perhaps do not require any suggestion. However, please remember Wikipedia do not tolerate nonsense in the long run, and editing wikipedia is a privilege and not a right. Thank you and good bye. --Bhadani 12:00, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Questions on adminship

[edit]

Hi Bhadaniji - as I said earlier to you, I'm interested in obtaining adminship. My motivation to do this is to protect the ability of people across the world to learn from Wikipedia and help others to learn from them. An administrator helps protect the integrity of all information on Wikipedia, while protecting the work of over a million contributors and helping contributors contribute better. I strongly desire to be in a position to help Wikipedians and Wikipedia on the most important issues.

I don't feel an ability to do this job today, despite my motivation - I don't feel I have a proper judgment and eye. For example, I made two errors of judgment recently - I created new stubs without waiting for the process prescribed by WikiProject Stub sorting, and I tagged some images as my creations even though according to Wikipedia's images policies, I was not entitled to be so. I did these two things only because of over-enthusiasm and over-eagerness - I wanted to efficiently organize India stubs as soon as possible, and I had some great maps with me that Wikipedia would greatly benefit from.

What can I do to solve this problem? Do you see any other points I should work to improve upon? I need your advice to understand what attitude and approach I need to have towards admin tasks to perform them effectively. I must work a lot at this before I can apply for adminship, and I need your help. Rama's Arrow 21:10, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another important issue is self-control in behavior. I react passionately to issues that arise here. There are many occasions where I feel I cannot justify myself to behave in a neutral fashion. Although I feel much better about my ability of not bursting out against a user, I don't feel confident about an ability to resolve disputes on NPOV, etc. on emotive articles. What do you advise? Rama's Arrow 21:14, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My response to him, copied from his talk page

Yes, Nirav, sou were back on 8th April 2006, when I was confined to bed. I used to think of wikipedia and several wikipedians including you during my forced separation of 3 weeks from wikipedia arising on account of my sickness. Now, I am almost recouped. In the meanwhile, we had talked; still I extend you a formal welcome on your return on 8th April 2006.

Now let us talk business, that is, about the project. You had asked my opinion about your impulsive behavior (?) and your suitability for wiki-adminship. I can tell from my long experience in life that each one of us some short of shortcomings – no one is perfect: in real or in virtual life. Having said this, I would like to point out that I found you, in the ultimate analysis, a nice person and your contributions to the Project is really massive, and you have done very well. I think that most of Indian wikipedians, including me and you, have just made the beginning – the true potential is yet to emerge. I am of the firm conviction that you shall make a good administrator. Please harbor no negative thought in this regard. When the time shall come, you will have to accept the challenge. I have repeatedly stressed the point that the project requires more administrators from India/ this part of the word, so that contents relating to Asia may get true encyclopedic reflection in wikipedia. --Bhadani 14:47, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bhadani, I'm a little puzzled about the curious behaviour of User Saito Hajime's talk page.

I noticed an edit made by Saito Hajime at History of China on 28 March (http://en.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=History_of_China&offset=20060330204358&action=history) and left a message at his talk page questioning his change, probably around 29 March. At that time there was already a welcome notice there. A day or two later I noticed that my question had been deleted from his user page.

Today I had another look at his user page and discovered your welcome message dated 1 April. The history of the page showed that no other entries had been made at the page (no posts or deletions) prior to your posting your welcome message. Do you have any idea what might be going on?

User:Bathrobe (not logged in) 11 April.

My reply copied from his talk page:

  • I will shortly try to understand the problem, and shall come back to you.
  • I could not figure it out. Please see your edit history, and try to locate that particular edit. --Bhadani 11:29, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Reason

[edit]

My dear friends, I regret that I could not notify you about my absence. Actually, I fell sick suddenly on the morning of 3rd April 2006, and was confined to bed and was not allowed Internet access. Now, I am more or less in "shape". The problem was very serious infection. I missed wikipedia and wikipedians for three long weeks, and I feel really sad… for first few days, I even dreamt of wikipedia! I think that in next few days, my wiki-life shall become normal. I thank you for the concern and care, I know wikipedians are the most active virtual community, and Wikipedia is Better than the Best. --Bhadani 09:52, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Bhadani,

I was wondering what your opinion is on this matter: On a heated AfD, is it ok to move lengthy back and forth comment debates to the talk section of the AfD, or should you leave all comments untouched on the AfD page, even if they over-clutter the vote page? What do you think? Hamsacharya dan 00:03, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page: This has reference to your http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/User_talk:Bhadani#RfC I think, it is rather difficult to set any rule for such issues, and the same shall depend on the individual case. However, in case, discussion turns out to be really lengthy, it is advisable to talk more on the discussion page. --Bhadani 06:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You are absolutely in sync with me over the issue of "proper coverage of bihar and jharkhand in wikipedia". A lot needs to be done. I hope you might have started working exlusively for it, as you had promised.

I'm in 3rd year B.Tech. and my exams and placements are going to start in a while and it will continue till 29th of May. So, I think i'll get time to do extensive work in this regard only after that. Till then i'm always available for help as far as sharing of information is concerned.

Gurunath

[edit]

Hi Bhadani, There is someone who wants to hijack the term Gurunath as the creation of his western Guru. Can you please look into this and voice your POV if possible? I'm not experienced enough with Wikipedia to know what to do. Thanks. Hamsacharya dan 04:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copy of my reply from his talk page:

As regards your message in connection with above: I think we can always expand the contents, and give the contents a proper context. Citing the source appears defective, as the references of the "sources" of the person who claims creation of the "term" with the meaning as claimed by him, is not a good citation. An independent and better citatation is required. --Bhadani 09:13, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the writer of that content has an independent citation. There are only 2 entries on google for that specific information. Are there any other sources regarding etiology of the spiritual title Gurunath? I would think this would be found in India - it's difficult to find it here in US. Hamsacharya dan 17:14, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I shall update this page very shortly. --Bhadani 07:25, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bhadani - the disputant on the Gurunath page has removed your work citing that it lacks citations. I have revealed that the two usernames "Baba Louis" and "Hanuman Das" are actually sockpuppets. I have removed their "other meanings" section under the WP:V rule that self-published sources must be relegated to the article about the source - in this case Shri Gurudev Mahendranath. Just wanted to bring this information to your attention. I have also posted the state of affairs on WP:RfC under the history section. All the best, Hamsacharya dan 06:42, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Bhadaniji - Here is a link to update you on a further action I have taken today [2]. One problem that I've had is that most of the other mediators that have come into this dispute have had lack of fundamental understanding of Sanatan Dharma and have therefore left the discussion due to their lack of discriminatory capability of the very pedantic subject. If you know of any individual editors that have a good such understanding, it would be much appreciated if they could be kindly asked to review the situation, and voice their opinions. Thank you.Hamsacharya dan 19:45, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Thanks Bhadaniji

I browsed through the membership list of the AAAS.Actually I created a pge of the current membership but it was swiftly deleted as it did not conform to the norms(my ineptitude) and the administrator felt it was not encyclopedic enough.I was somewhat surprised as by popular consensus (as appears in the page on AAAS in the Wiki)itself the honour is considered second only to Nobels.

I think we can make a good start by creating stubs on the Indian representation in the membership.I have identified the Indian members who still do not have a page in the Wiki and should you think this would constitute a good beginning,I can let you have the names.Regards(Vr 05:47, 27 April 2006 (UTC))[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page:Kindly let me have the list - I will create stubs. We shall see the issue of re-creating the page deleted. Plz do not worry, sometimes, pages get deleted and then again re-created - we will present things with a better perspective and context this time. --Bhadani 09:08, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More from his talk page: By the way, I suggest that you please write few words about you on your user page.

move

[edit]

Hi Bhadaniji - I have to move the article Indian Independence Movement to Indian independence movement, which is presently a re-direct. Given the issues regarding the history and talkpage, please tell me how I should undertake this move. Rama's Arrow 15:08, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it is possible only by cut and paste - and make a re-direct to Indian independence movement from the Indian Independence Movement. Secondly, I think that Indian independence movement will have to be deleted, which was created by you as Nirav, and then move have to be done. This will make your edit short by one, will remove the history of the deleted page, but shall keep the history of the page (including the talk page) moved, that is, Indian Independence Movement moved to Indian independence movement. --Bhadani 15:19, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok, I will put up the redirect page for speedy delete, and then act upon this. "Band Baja Do" is a Hindi-slang meaning to beat an opponent thoroughly. It is commonly used as "Are Shiv Sena ne to Congress ki election mein band baja di." Rama's Arrow 15:30, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was user:Nirvana2013 who created the re-direct by cut/paste. It was incorrect according to naming conventions. I think it'll be best to repair the problem by cut/paste. Rama's Arrow 15:49, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My response taken from his page: Cut & paste: in case, you so wish, it is an easy option, and I do not think that sky shall fall by doing this - the history of the other page shall continue to exist for future reference. --Bhadani 15:56, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Mr.Bhadani.By the way I noticed that you had been ill.I hope you have fully recovered.

I must note here that I am somewhat worried over one development. One administrator who has constantly helped me and actually welcomed me viz.Arundhati Bakshi has left the Wiki.I shall miss her and so shall many others.

I also appreciate your reassuring words about the deletion. And I shall certainly add an intro.

As mentioned I think stubs about the Indian members of the AAAS would be a good start.Quite a few of them have artcles but the following do not:

a.Devendra Lal(Ocean physicist) b.Bharati Mukherjee(writer) c.Amar Bose(Scientist/businessman) d.Yash Pal(Scientist/Chairman of the University Grants Commission) e.Ashoka Jahnavi Prasad(behavioural scientist) f.Subra Suresh(Computer Scientist)

CNR Rao,MGK Menon,CR Rao,Roddam Narasimha,Mriganka Sur,MS Swaminathan alraedy have articles to their names.

I shall with your permission go about looking for members from Asia if you think their stibs would be of interest.

I am quite excited about this as membership of AAAS is second only to Nobels in prestige and must really thank you.I feel I am doing something worthwhile cooperating with you.Regards(Vr 05:44, 28 April 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I also noticed prior to your absence you had some interesting exchanges with user:Anonymous editor on his talkpage. Your recent messages have also been of a curious nature. Hi there, I just wanted to thank you for reading this stub and making some edits. I was inspired by the recent promotion of National anthem of Russia to featured article, so I am planning to try to get Jana Gana Mana, Amar Shonar Bangla and Qaumi Tarana to featured status. However, Jana Gana Mana seems to be in a state of flux and there are several editors at work there at the moment and my Bengali isn't brilliant, so I plumped for the quieter Pakistani anthem, especially as Siddiqui has helped enormously by correcting my poor Urdu. The only problem now is waiting for copyright owners to respond on images of Azad, Chagla and Jullandhuri.

How is your health by the way? I hope you are improving :) Green Giant 21:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Bhadani! I think you are doing superbly not just as an administrator but as a Wikipedian. While our paths have not intersected much, I have seen you now and then since your RFA, and I have a lot of confidence in you. I know how working on this project every day with virtual anonymity, very little feedback, and occasional collisions with vandals and evil-doers can be a strange and disconcerting experience, but take heart, those of us who stay for a while (and you are among them) are a rather elite crew, and probably appreciate each other more than you think. Keep up the good work my friend! Antandrus (talk) 14:51, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Bhadani, yes I remember you. We first met when you re-wrote the Battle of Saragarhi after a copyvio deletion. I remember feeling happy that there was someone on the English Wikipedia from that part of the world who could write about it. You are a wonderfull editor and administrator and wikipedia is lucky to have you. Best wishes, and keep up the good work. --Duk 15:47, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

[edit]

Glad to know you. Thanks so much for leaving me a kind hello. I love Robert Frost, incidentally; my favorite of his poems is probably Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening. I also quite like Fire and Ice and The Road Less Traveled. Are you familiar with them also? · Katefan0 (scribble)/poll 16:18, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose that if I have a concern it's with your mass-spamming of user talk pages. It's probably better to place such requests in a single location--on your own talk page or user page is best--where those who are familiar enough with your work to watchlist them will see it. --Tony Sidaway 16:41, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page

Thank you Tony - yes Tony, as you had asked me to call you Tony and not Mr. Tony when I had a talk with you a year before. I shall be more careful, and shall avoid "mass-spamming". I will also not do "select-spamming" (?). No, sometimes, I will have to do "select-spamming". I was just kidding! Now, I am leaving you in peace for few weeks. About a year back on 22nd April 2005, you gave me an exceptional new comer barnstar, and I shall thank you every year for the same. In case, you find that I have done some exceptional work during last 12 months or next 12 months, please do not forget to give me another barnstar! --Bhadani 15:11, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

reqphotoin

[edit]

Bhadani, if you think it's useful to add {{reqphotoin}} to every highway in Australia without a photo, could you at least please put them in the state photo categories, not the national one? Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 14:54, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from his talk page: ME:Thanks, and nice meeting you. But, how I have to re-do to effect the changes as suggested by you? I am requesting for photographs as I find that pages with photographs look just superb. Your country is really beautiful! Regards. --Bhadani 15:03, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

...And suburbs of Canberra would belong in Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Australian Capital Territory. For now, I'd say leave the ones you've tagged, but if you're going to do the rest of the alphabet, put them in the tighter categories please. I've already addressed one - did you notice? --Scott Davis Talk 15:06, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Right now, I am stopping this, and shall re-do shortly. Thanks. --Bhadani 15:08, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your request

[edit]

Hey, I think I remember you. I think its really respectable that you have asked for such a request. I can see that you really care about your behaviour and the project as a whole. I haven't finished reviewing you just yet, but so far, I'm please with what I see. You have been courteous, and dedicated, and I applaud your efforts there. A few minor inconsistencies, however.

  1. You haven been using edit summaries as often as you should for all edits (minor and major). According to Mathbot's tool, you have used edit summaries for 100% of your major edits (good job), but only 47% for your last 150 minor edits.
  2. Your edit count shows that you have been quite involved in the project (21000+ edits).
  3. According to the edit counter, you barely use your Admin tools: you started using them January (even after your promotion in September); in that month, only 1% of your total edits were blocks (0% was dedicated to deletion); in February, 0% for both blocks and deletions (7 edits alltogether); in March, 0% for both, and the same for April (no blocks, protections or deletes whatsoever). I'm not implying that you are not doing your job, so please do not take it that way. In fact, I'm kinda pleased with the conservative approach you have taken with regards to these tools. Some Admins jump straight to blocking or deleting prematurely. (But it wouldn't hurt to up the count here. Wiki is vandalised ever 2 seconds it seems)
  4. Lastly, of your 21000+ edits, only 3% have been to the porject namespace; that namespace should be higher. The edits that you have made to this namespace, however, are respectable. you have focussed a lot of time on AFDs (good job).

Glad that you came to me. Again, I applaud your efforts; you are one of the better editors I've seen on Wiki. I'd say continue with your preformance, and take heed of the above suggestions. Oran e (t) (c) (e) 18:15, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello friend, your analysis is perfect, and I agree with the same. Certainly, you must have devoted a lot of time to the matter. I really feel indebted to you for your valuable comments. I shall surely try to improve. I shall surely use the administrative tools more, including more involvement to the project related issues. I may add that my involvement with the project is on a very long-term basis, and there shall surely be more from me as far as the administration side is concerned. I am looking forward to listening more from you. Thanks. --Bhadani 08:15, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That was a good analysis. I'm not very active these days and hence haven't "encountered" you often in recent times. However, you seem to be doing great work. I'd like to entrust the job of introducing Wiki policies of WP:NPOV, WP:CITE, etc., to new editors, particularly those from India. Many users are unaware of those policies and engage in fancruft, self-promotion, etc., I'm sure that a significant number of those can become good editors here. After all, I started out with self-promotion before I understood Wikipedia. And, the only thing that keeps me worried when I'm not able to edit here is that, many featured articles built with a lot of labour start to wither away as Nichalp who built a bulk of them is fighting hard to protect them. I wish you take care of them. Well, I know I haven't given feedback regarding your contributions, but, have simply made counter-requests. This only says how dependable you are. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 07:59, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I agree with Journalist. Keep up the good work :). Just another star in the night T | @ | C 11:26, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I do indeed remember you, but unfortunately I have not encountered you much. Perhaps it is fortunate, actually, because it means you have avoided arbitration! Unfortunately I haven't the time to go over in detail what you have been doing; however, whenever I have seen your edits, they were usually kind words on someone's talk page or small article maintenance tasks that keep things running... so on that basis I would say you were doing pretty well. request for comment

Dear Bhadani,

I have been "written up" by user Hanuman Das who is not happy with the Gurunath page. He is trying to get me in trouble with wikipedia. Your comment is requested here: [4]. I am very sorry to involve you into this problem - please do not see it that way, but rather simply stand up for what you believe to be "Truth" and your experience with how things have played out on the Gurunath page as far as who has been working toward TRUTH and who has been working toward an AGENDA. Also, do please forgive me for causing you to waste your time with this matter. This is a matter of clearing my name of defamation, and you can imagine what that would do to you in the same scenario.
