ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:46, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Palestine-Israel articles 5 arbitration case opened
[edit]You offered a statement in an arbitration enforcement referral. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Palestine-Israel articles 5. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Palestine-Israel articles 5/Evidence. Please add your evidence by 23:59, 14 December 2024 (UTC), which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Palestine-Israel articles 5/Workshop. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Party Guide/Introduction. For the Arbitration Committee, SilverLocust 💬 06:14, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
Palestine-Israel articles 5 updates
[edit]You are receiving this message because you are on the update list for Palestine-Israel articles 5. The drafters note that the scope of the case was somewhat unclear, and clarify that the scope is The interaction of named parties in the WP:PIA topic area and examination of the WP:AE process that led to two referrals to WP:ARCA
. Because this was unclear, two changes are being made:
First, the Committee will accept submissions for new parties for the next three days, until 23:59, 10 December 2024 (UTC). Anyone who wishes to suggest a party to the case may do so by creating a new section on the evidence talk page, providing a reason with WP:DIFFS as to why the user should be added, and notifying the user. After the three-day period ends, no further submission of parties will be considered except in exceptional circumstances. Because the Committee only hears disputes that have failed to be resolved by the usual means, proposed parties should have been recently taken to AE/AN/ANI, and either not sanctioned, or incompletely sanctioned. If a proposed party has not been taken to AE/AN/ANI, evidence is needed as to why such an attempt would have been ineffective.
Second, the evidence phase has been extended by a week, and will now close at 23:59, 21 December 2024 (UTC). For the Arbitration Committee, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:20, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello. This is a new profile but I have created and edited many Wiki articles in the past and I had never encountered any issues before but the article I created this time got flagged for speedy deletion for a reason I don't understand, I used neutral terms and cited multiple different sources not affiliated to the subject, such as published articles and magazines about the subject, and I believe I used appropriate tone for Wikipedia while trying to avoid peacock terms. No idea on how to rewrite it. --Crl2025 (talk) 21:49, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Crl2025: I'll copy some of the problematic phrases here for you:
recognized for his contributions to the entertainment and music industries
this is unsourced and is puffery. He is particularly noted for
again, unsourced pufferyprofessional journey
this is also puffery - the term "career" would suffice just as fine.Siddiqui's musical contributions are diverse
puffery. His work on Akon’s Konvicted album reissue stands out
unsourced puffery. If a source has identified this as his best work or a stand out work, then you need to cite what source says that and attribute the statement to that reliable source. An example could be saying "The New York Times has said that his work on Akon's album Konvicted (insert exact quote of what the NYT said)". If no source has said it, then Wikipedia should not describe it as stand out. Even if a source (or more than one) have described it as stand out, it must be due weight to include a quote from them.
- Those are what I saw on a quick read through of the article. I will also ping the user who nominated it for speedy deletion - @GPL93: - it does not appear that this draft rises to the level of speedy deletion as it is at least an attempt to write a legitimate article. If it is deleted and you intend to keep working to fix the issues, I would encourage Crl2025 to request it be undeleted so it can be worked on further.
- It is unlikely to be accepted in its current state - as the puffery is a concern and from my read through of the sources, it appears there is only one source (the first reference) so far that even comes close to meeting the notability guideline of significant coverage in a reliable source. That source, however, is an interview, which is not independent of the subject. But it leads me to believe that possibly more sources could be found, and it is not so bad as to merit deletion, in my opinion. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 22:41, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Please give me a ping when you consider the issue resolved/lost cause/dead horse/etc. ―Mandruss ☎ 11:39, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Mandruss: I've "taken the fight" to Commons (figuratively speaking). There seems to be disagreement over it there still, but there's a new deletion request discussion going on. I'm not going to bother trying to keep them out of articles here - if/when they're deleted people can fix the redlinks. It's bad enough that me and others had to start a whole new deletion request over there (there's no easy way to batch nominate files so it's a manual process to tag each one and add it to the discussion), and ultimately there's just too many pages to watch here if I was to try and keep them off the pages. So, I don't consider it resolved, but I think it's way too much work to bother trying to keep them off here.
- Also, I don't think the photographer is going to get mad/sue Wikipedia or anything like that - they're okay with them being used here, the question is whether or not they're okay with them being used by anyone, anywhere, for any reason, etc. as required by Commons. That's an argument that will continue on Commons, but there's little to no danger of allowing them to stay for now on WP, other than the potential redlink eventually if/when they're deleted. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 21:16, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know why I'm surprised to hear that the Commons copyright "experts" are no different from en-wiki policy "experts": can't agree on their own rules. ―Mandruss ☎ 21:47, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- From what I observed, they do agree on the rules, but they can't bother enforcing them. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 21:53, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Jmtjboxing (18:16, 21 January 2025)
[edit]Is there a way I can add my article online? Or to boxrec? --Jmtjboxing (talk) 18:16, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Jmtjboxing: I don't really understand the question. Are you asking about an article for yourself? Or an article you wrote about someone/something else? -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 21:16, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
