To fix

I made some changes to the "To fix" subpage of yours. Just letting you know. If you want, it might be a better idea to move whats on this page to a subpage of Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and video games, but it really doesn't matter to me. It's your page. K1Bond007 20:46, Mar 26, 2005 (UTC)

Nah. Forget about the move. I'm just hoping to make the page more "popular". K1Bond007 22:22, Mar 26, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for you support in my request for adminship. Your trust in me will not be disappointed. Now, I'm off to put these new powers to good use! -- Scott e 02:37, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Wikiproject CVG

Just to let you know, there is currently a vote in progress on whether to adopt a template for the the official CVG infobox. Please take a look at CVG vote. Thank you. K1Bond007 03:22, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

Thank You!

Quarto by email

Hi Andrevan, a new mailing list has been set up to distribute news about the Wikimedia foundation, specifically at the moment to publicise Quarto. I saw your name on the quarto talk page requesting a copy by email, and I think this mailing list is how we're going to do it for the moment. It'll be a html email, which I've added to the Quarto talk page m:Talk:WQ. Mailing list is called Foundation-news-l (We also need translators!) Cheers w:User:Cormaggio

Baby Mario and Baby Luigi

See my response to your argument on my talk page. I'm sorry I couldn't respond sooner, but I've been having some computer trouble. Thank you. Marcus2 22:15, 1 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Help with hostile member

I am writing as part of the group that posted the articles on "Why Gender." Our group is made up an undergraduate art history class. Our professor is a highly respected researcher specializing in gender issues. A wikipedia user named "AlexR" has been very hostile toward us. Using unprofessional language and merely trying to delete us rather than help construct this article. I am amazed at the behavior of someone, especially on site that encourages learning and broadening one's mind. Is there anyway you could contact this member and ask him to "chill out" and tell him that this type of behavior is extremely juvenile? THANK YOU!

He's not being hostile. Like been said more than once on VfD on those articles, this is an Encyclopedia, not some place for you to put up essays on thing you written no matter however respected your professor or you are. -- KTC 01:46, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Andre

For your 'full support' for my RfA! With fond memories and hopes for future collaboration, your latest admin, El_C 00:46, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

Thank you for your comments on my RFA. Although the voting period just ended with a 14-8-2 vote, I will admit once and for all that I used it more as an evaluation of myself. Being promoted would have been a plus. I was more interested in who voted, when they voted, who would change their votes and when, and the comments I would receive. Hopefully I will correct the main weakness that was raised by those who voted oppose -- that I was too eager to put articles on VFD. Also, I will try to interact more with those Wikipedians who did not vote at all.

As for next month, I don't know if I will nominate myself again. I might not think about it until somebody else puts me up there on RFA at a later date. Eventually, I see myself as an admin, especially as the number of articles and users continues to grow. Thanks again and good luck at improving this vast archive of free knowledge. Renaming an article

Hey, I think the article Nintendo era (??) should be moved back to 8-bit era. I don't know who made this change, but it's never to my knowledge been called or considered "the Nintendo era" and the title improperly shows favor to Nintendo. There were several other systems during this timeframe including Sega's Master System etc. Just bringing this to your attention since you normally handle a lot of video game articles. K1Bond007 00:09, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you sir! :) K1Bond007 18:11, May 10, 2005 (UTC)

Dispute on Lethal Injection

I was formerly an unknown user of Wikipedia when I came across the article on Lethal Ejection and found an error on a date. This date is the date of the first Lethal Injection on December 7, 1983. However it was put as 1982. I made the appropriate change, however I got a message from the user Evil Monkey that the correct date is 1982 and that I shouldn't change it. The problem with this is, according to the history channel, the first Lethal Injection was infact December 7, 1983. Google is not a viable source of information exactly. Also several books and documentaries I've seen on this issue likewise state the date as being 1983. I'm still new to this system and basically I asking that someone enlighten the lad that people do use this site for resources.

Andre,

I am user Winston Smith ( pseudonym ). I am dropping you a line here because i need help in resolving a dispute.

I will briefly explain the background.

My home page is google news and i like others go there several times daily to see what's going on. I have a particular interest in the Sci/Tech section. On a day sometime in April ( i think ). I came across a headline in the Sci/Tech section that got my attention. It was "Ballmer backs Linux". I read the article and came across the line:

"Meanwhile, it seems another Service Pack from the Vole ..."

Although in hindsight i should have assumed what 'the Vole' was referring to - i wasn't sure. I quickly looked for a definitive answer on google but although i found many references to 'the Vole' i couldn't find out definitively what it mean't. I turned to Wikipedia and entered vole. No joy there was just an article about the animal. To cut a long story short, I decided that:

1.) I would find out as much as I could about this term.

2.) I would contribute my findings to Wikipedia.

After hunting around newsgroups and the like I found that the term seemed to originate with the on-line news outlet the Inquirer ( where i read the article in the first place ). After contacting the editor and their message board. I had enough information to create an article, which i did and have included here for you to see:

Vole is the nickname given to the Microsoft Corporation.

The nickname is believed to have been coined by the on-line News Journal The Inquirer.

Currently there is no definitive information as to how the name originated, even The Inquirer's own Jargon file only has this to say:

VOLE: "I am a Vole and I live in a hole". Microsoft.

Perhaps the most compelling reason was given by a user on The Inquirer's Message board who said:

"Well, a Vole is a small rodent whose teeth grow continuously. Therefore they must eat (and wear their teeth down) continously or their own growth would kill them. In otherwords, Microsoft can only survive by acquiring/stifling the competition."

Please see the talk page for correspondence with The Inquirer and responses posted on The Inquirer's message board about the origin of the nickname. Also the below link to the Inquirer's Jargon file shows that the entry for Vole is unilluminating.

External links

Inquirer Jargon]

I then created a link at the top of the vole page which said in light italics Also a nickname for the Microsoft corporation. which I pointed at the Microsoft Vole article.

Well the newly created page got proposed for deletion: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Microsoft_vole

And it was duly deleted - although if you look at the discussion I'm not sure that it really merited it.

The link on the vole page was however still there. So i simply pointed it to an existing article on Wikipedia The Inquirer which already had a reference to Microsoft being known as 'the Vole'. I thought it was fair enough to point to an existent article with relevant information. A horrible sinking feeling came about a week ago when i found that someone ( who was not part of the original proposal for deletion of the Vole page ) had decided that this was unencyclopedic.

It seems that people have a prejudice against this term. It's been called "childish", "stupid", "irrelevant" and propagandist. But it seems to me that people are getting confused with promotion as opposed to information. I'm not trying to turn Wikipedia into a mouth piece for anti Microsoft propaganda - I am simply trying to provide knowledge where there was none, so that on another day someone turning to Wikipedia to find out about this term will be rewarded with some information.

Please please can you help!

Part 2, Lethal Injection

The History Channel's Website actually has the information on the website. General Interest for the history of the day December 7. I did infact, put this reference link on the entry, however it was also deleted by Evil Monkey. If you want to see for youself, visit http://www.historychannel.com/tdih/tdih.jsp?category=general&month=10272964&day=10272972 The third date down.

I've posted a reply on Talk:Lethal injection with several sources that say it was 1982. Evil MonkeyHello 02:40, May 17, 2005 (UTC)
I found some more sources as well as an article from the New York Times written about the execution in 1982. Evil MonkeyHello 01:14, May 19, 2005 (UTC)

Invitation to Inquiry

Andrevan, you are cordially invited to join the Inquiry project. Adraeus 10:35, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sam Spade took over the project, and twisted its purpose. Unfortunately, the project can't be deleted; however, I'm moving it offsite so I can exhibit more control over the documentation and membership. Adraeus 14:07, 18 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
