Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations
Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)
Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.
Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.
Additional details about our research group are available here.
Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 20:39, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Addbot not respecting NOBOTS directive
This is one of several such cases of Addbot ignoring an explicit tag to exclude bot edits. Please respect those tags. This is just one of several cases where bot is speedy-tagging user-space sandbox pages, and I'm declining them as I find them: if user creates a redirect that is circular, double, or unresolved for some reason, well, it's his userspace for his experimentation. DMacks (talk) 19:56, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yes ... I'm going to protect mine again to keep Addbot away, but {{nobots}} compliance really should be standard today. --Amalthea 20:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- I am now not so busy and I would say that I would now add this feature. Unfortunately in my absence the code for all of my bots has disappeared ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 10:37, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
A bunch of my articles were recently deleted with no notice
I am trying to at least get texts of these articles so I can see if any can be improved to restore to wikipedia. I am not even totally sure all of the articles deleted, among them were articles of Marie Cornwall, Richard I. Kimball, Gordon B. Lindsay, Dennis A. Wright (actually two different articles on two people with the same name), C. Allen Ostergar, Ugo A. Perego and possibly a few more people.Johnpacklambert (talk) 23:13, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- I was doing more searching. George W. Givens, J. LeRoy Kimball, Brent L. Nielsen and possibly quite a bit more people have also been deleted.Johnpacklambert (talk) 23:16, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
For the bot
Please check for redirects when adding like this. Thanks.--GDibyendu (talk) 18:09, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there. I would say I would add this but unfortunately all of my bots have disappeared. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 10:40, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
Banaticus Adoption: Rating Articles
I took the list from Recent Changes, crossed off WP: pages, talk page edits, new user creations, etc. Then I visted the front of each page and put down what I thought it was. I originally wrote more, but right at the end I accidentally hit my touch pad and clicked on a link and lost everything when the browser moved to a new page (I was Alt+Tab'ing back and forth), so I redid the rating and didn't explain as much.
Reduced List
- Firestone Building Products Stub -- it's close to receiving a Spam AfD
- List of World War II aces from Germany List
- Madge Sinclair Start, only one reference
- Stewart Granger C class, just not enough references
- Omorate Start class, nothing about who's running things now, etc.
- University of British Columbia B class, just not enough references
- Roaring Gap, North Carolina Stub
- Milby High School B class
- List of FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman episodes List
- List of Dartmouth College alumni List
- Josiel da Rocha Start, I like the table, but the rest is just too short
- Pat BrownA class, should be put up for featured article
- Trout Brook, Nova Scotia Stub
- Bolshoy Krashokholmsky Bridge C class, doesn't tell us who did work after the beginning, how many lanes, etc.
- Toronto buses and trolley buses C class, great, but no references
- Soekarno-Hatta International Airport B class, great, but after Other facilities the references stop
- Nina List
- Ateneo School of Social Sciences Stub
- Kashmir A class, should be put up for featured article
- Travis Lane Stork C class, well written, good references, but short, could have gone into more depth
- William H. Lewis A class, should be put up for featured article
- Short-term memory B class
- József Sebök Stub
- Highway 2 (Ontario) C class
- List of The Angry Video Game Nerd episodes List
- Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver Start class -- poor references, don't conform to Wikipedia standards, if this was a business instead of a church, it would be in danger or being deleted as spam
- Australian commemorative coins List
- List of radio stations in Nova Scotia List
- La Repubblica Stub
- List of Los Angeles Lakers head coaches Start
- Willians Domingos Fernandes Stub
Banaticus (talk) 07:33, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- So, what do you think about that list and how I rated the articles? Should I rate more? Banaticus (talk) 21:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry I dont know if you read above or not but im currently very inactive due to exams. I will back properly in 2 weeks and will take a look at this then. The ammount of articles looks fine. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 13:15, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- It's cool, I'm pretty busy too at the moment. Would you like to contact me when you have more spare time or should I bug you again a couple weeks from now? :) Banaticus (talk) 04:18, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hey again. I took a look at your articles listed above. The majority of them are correct, there are a few which have changed but I am guessing that is due to the large gap between when you posted them and i reviewed them. This is a pass :) ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 10:42, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- Great -- just in case that didn't pass, I was slowly building a list of articles that I'd tagged for speedy delete (to meet an additional optional category) at User:Banaticus/speedydelete. But, since that list above is ok, I guess I might as well delete the speedydelete list I was putting together. ;) I'm ready for that final test when you are. :) Banaticus (talk) 22:36, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ok :P I guess ill start putting it together now. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 10:26, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Help! Oh, and please adopt me! :-)
{{help me}} Hello. I just went back to my page and saw who welcomed me to Wikipedia. I apologize for not posting earlier. I consider myself pretty Internet savvy, but I'm still getting used to Wikipedia. I would love for you a great place to start in terms of lessons, so I can improve, and be able to contribute more professional looking articles.
However, I also need some help/advise. I received an edit war message and this was my reply:
I have only made edits signing in. One post was made accidentally before I signed in. I have not gone back and forth several times. I do not know what that is. I recently reverted Mimzy1990's edits because he deleted the sources I had put up and also after he was warned twice by other users from vandalizing various pages (Generation X, Generation Y, and 2008-2009). I accidentally edited on an old page, so I went back and added the information back, left some of Mimzy's contributions in the intro, but removed the ones where the date was changed from 1982 to 1980. His sources came from blogs and a lawyer's website. I added back my sources from university professors, marketing research, etc. I also deleted the random information about South Korea, India, Greece, which doesn't belong in the introduction at all. I am more than happy to partner up with someone interested to add some information or put it up for discussion in the talk section. I found an article from Emory University about Millennials in the workforce, and am looking into some sources at the Public Library. I apologize for the trouble. However, the user I mentioned has been warned by other people, and he was told to stop or be blocked. He also has a history of deleting information and changing the original date from about a month or two ago. --CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 12:15, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
You can read that on my page. I will cease any more edits, but I would like for someone to take a look at what the other user provided in terms of sources compared to mine. Also, if you check the sources, they all provide 1982 as a start date for Generation Y. I deleted a definite end date, but it's generally accepted by universities, researchers, etc. that The Millennials start with the Class of 2000, or those born in 1982.
I don't know what else to do. This was the original start date for the article, but all my links, and contributions in the introductory paragraph got erased. I see that as Vandalism.--CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 12:15, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

In need of mentorship
Hi,
I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.
I need the advice of an experienced Wikipedian.
I'm currently coordinating development of Wikipedia's Outline of knowledge, and I am having trouble recruiting editors to help build and improve it. I need some mentorship here.
I also need advice on the guidelines I've been writing for the Outline of Knowledge at User:The Transhumanist/Outline of knowledge. Is it good enough? Did I miss anything important?
My latest effort to recruit help on the outlines is a proposal for a contest between all of the country WikiProjects on Wikipedia (about 200 of them). This will be a very big event, and I'm not sure I'm going about it in the best way.
So you see, I've taken on a lot, and I need as much advice as I can get.
I look forward to your reply on my talk page.
The Transhumanist 19:37, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there and sorry for my slow reply. I am currently very busy with real life and some other projects I have on the go so sorry I will not be able to mentor you. Feel free to ask me any questions you have here on my page though as I am sure i may be able to help. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 10:36, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Rollback
What should I do to be eligible for rollback. I know that anyone can apply, but when do you actually grant rollback?ManishEarthTalk • Stalk 03:19, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there. You need to have some experience on WP:AIV, and with identifying vandalism. Some admins also like to see a certain number of edits overall although that isn't a key point. If your account looks like it is clean and if it looks like you have some experience and can be trusted you will more than likely be grated rollback. But then it is also down to the admins judgment each time. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 09:50, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

I have no intention to kill anybody, and this threat will not happen again; I am just frustrated and angry because of permanent vandalism on List of Presidents of Madagascar from IP adress 192.18.43.225 (this is its talk page. Almost every day, it displays next message on List of Presidents - "Since 17 March 2009, Madagascar has no official elected President. A putschist, Andry Rajoelina, paid the Army and holds a dictatorial self-proclaimed regime". I think that we must permanently block this IP adress. --Иван Богданов (talk) 21:20, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas
A NobodyMy talk is wishing you a Merry Christmas! This greeting (and season) promotes WikiLove and hopefully this note has made your day a little better. Spread the WikiLove by wishing another user a Merry Christmas, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past, a good friend, or just some random person. Don't eat yellow snow!
Spread the holiday cheer by adding {{subst:User:Flaming/MC2008}} to their talk page with a friendly message.
To those who make Good Arguments, who are appreciative, or supportive. Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 19:48, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
