University of Brahmanbaria (Brahmanbaria University) is a reputed private university in Bangladesh. It was founded by Awami League politician and member of parliament R. A. M. Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury.[1]
History
[edit]University of Brahmanbaria was established in 2020 by R. A. M. Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, member of parliament for Brahmanbaria-3.[2] The university was approved by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education on 6 March 2019 and by the Bangladesh University Grants Commission on 10 June 2019. It is the first university of the district located in Brahmanbaria district.[3]
In March 2021, the registrar of University of Brahmanbaria filed a case over a rampage by Hefajat-e Islam Bangladesh in Brahmanbaria over visit by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.[4][5] The Business Post reported 92 percent of the seats were vacant at the university.[6] The Daily Sun reported that the university spent no money on research.[7]
Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo of the High Court Division ruled the lease of wetland to the University of Brahmanbaria illegal in November 2022.[8]
In April 2024, the University Grants Commission recommended against admission to the university as it did not have a vice-chancellor.[9][10]

[edit]The University of Brahmanbaria is offering the following courses across undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate programs include B.Sc. Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering, B.Sc. Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Bachelor of Business Administration, B.A. in English, B.S.S. in Sociology, and Bachelor of Laws. Graduate programs include Master of Business Administration, and MA in English.[12]
