Flags

[edit]

shouldn't the club and country with the most wins on top?

Be bold and fix it, that's why we're here --Paul 11:43, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are there team colours box for the Widnes Vikings? sss333 01:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

found it sss333 01:04, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Was it always called the "World Club Challenge"? Some English clubs' articles refer to it as the "World Club Championship".--Jeff79 19:07, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps not the 1975 edition, but the RLW calls the 1987 game the Fosters World Club Challenge, so it seems so.

Tidy-up

[edit]

This page is in need of quite a bit of tidying up. Some of the facts are inconsistent (it lists Deacon as having kicked 8 goals & a drop goal, but having 18 points total), there are misspellings ("Fieldon"), and frankly this suggests that a lot of other information conveyed here may be incorrect. I will endeavour to do what i can, but if there's someone with more knowledge on the subject, perhaps they could take a look? Julianhall (talk) 23:40, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scorers and Statistics

[edit]

Where is the scoring and stat information sourced from? It seems like it needs a fair bit of updating. Also with the Try scorers table I think it should be changed to Multiple Try scorers eg two or more. Again where can this statistical information be sourced as a link also needs to be provided. Thoughts anyone? Anderch (talk) 00:30, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Finally found a source to back up the statistics it doesn't include the 1997 comp however. Stistics are now up to date at long last. Anderch (talk) 02:08, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Flags

[edit]

Doe anyone have an issue if country flags in the results table are replaced with club logos? It is a club comp so it seems like it should. The Country flags could stay on the Venue column but the club should have their own colours. Thoughts? Anderch (talk) 04:15, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Although I have no problem with a column for country. The flags should be replaced with a simple 'ENG' or 'AUS', or even the whole word. Not fussed on the colour icons, but if they're added I think it should just be alongside the club's name. Although, I was thinking of making this table sortable like the one at List of Australia national rugby league team players one of these days, so any colour icons should go after the club name to not mess up the sorting.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 04:38, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Flag Icons scrapped. After further thought they are not really necessary as you mentioned a column for winning country could be added if you want to sort it. Anderch (talk) 03:42, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than country, maybe "competition" column ie NRL or Super League? They aren't their representing a country but they are there as winner of their competition. Mattlore (talk) 04:46, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that has occurred to me too. I just thought that someday a New Zealand or French club might make their way into it, making a 'Country' column the more interesting/informative option. For a binary option like "Super League"/"NRL" I'm thinking colour-coded rows, given the number of times those two words already appear in the article, and the issue of the pre-1990s competition names.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 07:47, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The other thing that should probably be tidied up in this table (an possibly the whole article) is standardizing the teams names eg Wigan is referred to as Wigan and Wigan Warriors. Anderch (talk) 00:49, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The general convention is for clubs' names to appear as they were at the time (because to say that the 1987 WCC was won by "Wigan Warriors" is less than perfectly accurate). It's the same in List of Australia national rugby league team players, in which, despite the clubs' names appearing differently over time to reflect changes, they stick together when sorted alphabetically due to the sort template used int he table syntax. This can also be done here.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 02:17, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

World Club Series

[edit]

I have begun upgrading this page to reflect the change to the World Club Series but am after a bit of discussion as to how to handle the statistics side going forward. Should all three games be included in stats or should the stats just reflect the main championship game and not the two "exhibition" games? If we include the two exhibition games, then in theory we need to include all games from the 1997 comp too so it could be messy. I am swaying toward just including stats from the final only and adding a note on the page that reflects this. Thoughts? Anderch (talk) 04:43, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in no hurry. We should be waiting to see how WP:SOURCES handle it (are we even sure yet that we should be dropping the 'Challenge'?). Having said that, I tend to lean toward your suggestion of focusing on the final.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 09:45, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I hear you, but officially it is the World Club Series but I think the main game is still the World Club Challenge but I am not 100% sure, so haven't included it. That's another reason why I think the article should focus on the game that matters - the final.Anderch (talk) 05:30, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm with Gibson, we can't just make a decision - we need to see how sources handle it. I would have preferred if this article remained as the World Club Challenge and the World Club Series was a new, separate article. Mattlore (talk) 05:43, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
