About us

[edit]

Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to rugby league football. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you have a passion for rugby league and wish to make Wikipedia the world's foremost reference on rugby league like the rest of our participants then add your name to the participants list. Then read the section below labelled How to help or inquire on our talk page. We are in search of graphic artists willing to create rugby league diagrams. Also any images of professional league players would be very helpful.

Scope

[edit]

The aim of the project is to create a pool of consistent and attractive articles that are easy to find and read, which can be achieved by maintaining and creating:

  • the rugby league category and sub-category structures
  • templates, infoboxes and other tools to help wikipedia display and make better use of content
  • articles related to rugby league
  • Current sports events up-to-date for international matches and provincial competitions.
  • Recent deaths and Current sports events up to date when notable rugby league players pass on. (As usually there are newspaper obituaries written when a person dies, it is also an opportunity to write up and improve the Wikipedia article on that player.)
  • Coordinate efforts and peer review articles
  • Expand the biographies on every man who has played a Test for the four main nations (Australia, England, France and New Zealand) as well as Great Britain.
  • Increase the number of well written rugby league related articles
  • Expand and improve other rugby league related articles

How to help

[edit]
  • Create — If an article has not been written on a notable topic, then it should be created. Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby league/Requested articles contains articles that have been requested by other editors. If you are a photographer and are willing to submit photos to be used on Wikipedia (read about important copyright licensing first), see this list for articles needing photos.
  • Clean up — Many articles, especially when they are first written, can be messy, incomprehensive and even incorrect. You can help by tidying up and correcting such articles. Rugby league articles tagged with various issues can be found here.
  • Expand — Many articles do not contain much information and should be expanded. A good place to find articles needing expansion is the rugby league stubs category.
  • Improve — While bringing an article to feature status is an advanced job it is a lot easier to take an article to good status. This requires ensuring the article is broad, well referenced, and the prose is satisfactory. Help improving the quality of any rugby article is much appreciated.
  • Monitor — Keeping an eye on the recent changes list is helpful for noting improvements to articles and spotting errors and disruptive edits.
  • Peer review the articles written by fellow WPRL members here
  • Assess — A large number of rugby league related articles are unassessed. You can assess these articles using our criteria and assign an importance and quality ranking to them.
  • Categorise — Label articles of interest to the project by putting the {{WikiProject Rugby league}} template on the talk page. The article should also be placed in the most specific category possible.
  • Articles can be found by browsing the rugby league category or by typing a desired article into the search box to see if it exists and what shape it is in.
  • If you don't have the time or the knowledge to create an important article a request can be left here.
