A correction is required to the Career section on this page

[edit]

Specific text to be removed: The Speakmans presented a DeLorean car to the former Liberal Member of Parliament for Rochdale, Sir Cyril Smith at his 80th birthday party in 2008.[13]

Reason for the change: This is an inaccurate statement and is referenced to an archived version of an inaccurate newspaper article, the live version of which has been corrected by the author/publisher

References supporting change: The corrected article is here this article is now accurate, no reference is made to the Speakmans and the presentation of a car to Mr Smith, hence the request to remove the incorrect statement on the page.

I've removed the sentence, given the issue with sourcing. AndyTheGrump (talk) 08:50, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Edwardx: You restored the text in question (example) by reverting an edit with a very thorough edit summary: "have removed the line <<The Speakmans presented a DeLorean car to the former Liberal Member of Parliament for Rochdale, Sir Cyril Smith at his 80th birthday party in 2008.[13]>> as it is inaccurate and refers to an archived newspaper story containing errors, the original of which has subsequently been corrected by the author and publisher, Rochdale Online. The amended reference is here https://www.rochdaleonline.co.uk/news-features/2/news-headlines/9569/sir-cyril-smith-80th-birthday-party". Did you check whether the claimed correction had been made? Advertorial style

[edit]

I've tried to make some changes to this article to reduce the advertorial style, as per the maintenance box highlighted at the top. Mainly this involved removing the excessive quotes and non-noteworthy/poorly sourced information, and trying to change the bit concerning VSDT which seemed somewhat skewed, possibly as a result of the COI edits on this article in the past. I don't feel confident removing the maintenance banner myself, but if anyone wants to take a look and see if it merits removal now I'd welcome it! Robrob42 (talk) 19:25, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
