Catcher
[edit]I'm European. I don't know the first thing about baseball, so maybe you'll laugh at me for asking this question: but if he's a catcher, why is he shown hitting the ball in the picture? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.204.126.77 (talk) 07:13, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
- Because in baseball the position players also bat - in an inning one team's position players take turns hitting while the other teams fielders are in the field in one half, and in the other half they switch, and those that were hitting now field while those that were fielding now hit. As for why the photo is of him hitting and not actively catching, as catchers wear protective face masks, a photo of them at bat is generally preferred so that they are identifiable. (the infobox photo already shows him geared up as a catcher with his facemask removed, as well.) Echoedmyron (talk) 13:48, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
