Two pronunciations
[edit]What's this about? Can she not make up her mind? -- Smjg (talk) 08:05, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
- No idea where either comes from - I think they're both incorrect. They both differ from the pronunciation given for Coky Giedroyc (her sister), which I think is the correct version. Couldn't point to a citation to confirm this though, so I'll leave it to someone else to make the edit.
- In Polish it should be spelt Giedroyć and pronounced /ˈɡjɛdrɔɪ̯t͡ɕ/ . Лудольф (talk) 15:39, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Princely...again?
[edit]Who keeps adding the adjective 'princely' to Giedroyc's forbears? What evidence is there that the family is 'princely'? Please don't add 'princely' again. If you do, give some evidence or cite some source. Thanks! 86.187.162.136 (talk) 01:10, 25 September 2019 (UTC)
Early Life
[edit]The section on Giedroyc's early life is very short compared with the rest of the article. Also, should it not be renamed "Early Life and Education", for it does mention the Cambridge college she attended and what she read there? Vorbee (talk) 20:49, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Light Lunch encounter
[edit]In an episode of the BBC One Would I Lie to You? (game show), Lee Mack's team decided that it was a Lie that Mel Giedroyc had had a "snogging session" with one of the six men with her on the TV Stage, during the pair's mid-1990s making of Light Lunch. Surprisingly, she revealed that Dermot O'Leary was indeed the person. The 2013 "WILTY" episode's team captains Lee Mack and David Mitchell were respectively joined by Mel Giedroyc with Dermot O'Leary, and by Matt Dawson with Josh Widdicombe. Birth name?
[edit]Melanie Clare Sophie Giedroyc has recently been changed to Melanie Philommena Giedroyc on the basis of the source ""Series 1, Episode 1". Unforgivable. 2 February 2021. Dave." There's a link to the TV programme here but there's no preview or re-play option. Martinevans123 (talk) 23:07, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- That'll teach me to use show preview. I'd meant to say 'Philomena'. It's about 24 minutes in, let me get an exact time.--Launchballer 23:18, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- It's at about 22:43. I can't see a single reliable source for "Melanie Clare Sophie Giedroyc".--Launchballer 23:28, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- FreeBMD has this: [1]. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:17, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- Launchballer, any comments? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:24, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem to be listed at WP:RSP. It was my understanding that genealogy sources counted as primary sources and thus should be avoided.--Launchballer 15:34, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, it's one of those silly rules that Wikipedia has. Do you have an accessible and stable link to that episode of Unforgivable ? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:38, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- Until we have an accessible source to use as a ref, and/or an alternative WP:RS, for "Melanie Philomena Giedroyc", it might be safer to return to the name that's been stable and unchallenged for some time? Martinevans123 (talk) 23:49, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- So, I found this link at UKTV Play, which I am guessing is restricted to UK viewers. I had to register, but this was relatively painless. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:17, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

- Since when has a fleeting mention on a TV programme based around "lies, legal transgressions and morally bankrupt behaviour" been considered a WP:RS??!! Here is her entry at Companies House - which confirms what others have said, that her birth record (1968) and marriage record (2001) are in the names of Melanie Clare Sophie Giedroyc. Of course, she may have done something to change her middle name at some point - but "Philomena" is not part of her birth name. Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:26, 8 February 2021 (UTC) PS: Here's another source. Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:30, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Quite an amusing show. But for those who don't want to watch through the first 20 minutes... it's a single mention, voiced by an anonymous off-screen actor, in a jokey luvvie voice, (yes at 22:43), which gets the expected laugh from the audience. Perhaps a fan would like to create a new article for Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable?? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:42, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Aside from the fact that that description refers to previously told lies, I find it hard to believe that she would lie to production.--Launchballer 11:48, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Um, it's a joke? She never even says anything - she just points to herself (in silhouette) during the jokey voice over? Martinevans123 (talk) 11:52, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- My understanding is that it's a legal requirement to have your correct name registered at Companies House. It is quite obviously a more reliable source than a passing mention on a TV comedy show based around lies. Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:14, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, these company directors... you just can't trust them, can you. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:19, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
