  • New enough, long enough, hook fact is interesting and well supported. Biography section would do with merging. Earwig is not happy, and looking at the results I feel like bits and bobs could be better paraphrased.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 17:15, 21 December 2024 (UTC)but that's beyond the DYK purview.[reply]
Earwig is picking up a lot of false positives because of the volume of quotes used in the article. I believe I've fixed all the ones that don't come under WP:LIMITED. The first four body paragraphs are all now one.--Launchballer 14:15, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Image is NOT approved, however; it is currently at FFD, and very much will end up deleted. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 14:26, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are two pages needed?

[edit]

Does Luigi Mangione deserve his own page when the Killing of Brian Thompson exists? I'm 50/50 on this question, but I ask because there are much more prominent and publicized convicted murderers, even some serial killers, of which only a "killing of" article exists. Секретное общество (talk) 06:55, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This article survived a articles for deletion discussion where many editors gave arguments for why this separate article should or should not exist, myself included. The current consensus from that discussion is that this article should exist by itself, as Mangione is notable for at least his killing, his folk hero status, and his trial. Conversely, Brian Thompson (businessman) also went to a deletion discussion where many editors, myself again included, gave arguments for why that article should or should not exist. The current consensus from that discussion is that Thompson is not notable, and thus his article was merged into and redirected to the killing article. guninvalid (talk) 07:00, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The suspect/killer of a single murder instance is often considered notable on the English Wikipedia when the person of interest has attracted consistent media coverage and intensive studies of modus operandi. One similar article of recent incident would be Tetsuya Yamagami, which also survived a similar merger discussion. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk · contri.) 09:23, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is unfair.

Luigi is a very successful man, and right now he is being treated as if it is guilty until proven innocent. Looking at the evidence and the pictures of his cousin who looks identical to the man caught on the video camera, I think there is a good chance he will be proven innocent. While it is good this page is creating awareness, this is not what he should be known for and his Wikipedia page should be more about his successful life and family. There is so much more to him than the crime he was accused of. 2001:56A:FBD5:D500:50DD:49AB:B48A:5B56 (talk) 22:31, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That may be true, but Wikipedia is a tertiary source. This means we go off of what reliable, secondary sources say about the subject. There's only so much information about his home life in these sources, so we only have so much we can add. If you would like to find and add more though, go ahead and be bold! guninvalid (talk) 23:10, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I already know lots about him and would love to add, but his page is on lock down so I can’t edit it. 2001:56A:FBD5:D500:C427:5239:F14C:B535 (talk) 23:38, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"Handwritten Letter" is under copyright.

[edit]

This page currently includes the whole of Mangione's alleged letter. Assuming it was in fact written by him, it would be automatically under copyright under U.S. law, as there is no indication he released it under a free license.

Wikisource had a discussion about this at Wikisource:Copyright discussions/Archives/2024#Luigi Mangione Manifesto, which had unambiguous agreement amongst editors that this is most likely a copyright violation.

Therefore, we probably should not host a copyrightable letter, per Wikipedia:Copyrights. FPTI (talk) 09:44, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
