Cabinet-level versus cabinet
[edit]White House Chief of Staff is not a cabinet-level position.Mhenneberry 19:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, while it's not a cabinet position, it is a cabinet-level position (just like Vice-President). I've renamed the article to make it more precise. Udzu 10:32, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Rumsfeld?
[edit]I'm adding Don Rumsfeld to the list, since he was secretary of defense twice (Ford and Bush Jr administrations). I think this is covered by "multiple cabinet positions." Dkostic 23:27, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
secretaries under multiple presidents
[edit]Is there a list somewhere of Cabinet Secretaries who have served more than one president of different parties, as Robert Gates is about to do? Thanks. Simon12 (talk) 05:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
vice presidents
[edit]The Vice Presidency was NOT considered a "cabinet level" position until the F. Roosevelt administration. VPs did NOT attend cabinet meetings. Wilson let Thomas Marshall preside over a few while he was in Europe during 1918-19, and Harding invited Coolidge to attend, but Dawes refused to attend, starting a feud with President Coolidge, and while I'm not sure when Garner started attending, the first VP to be an "official" cabinet member was Alben Barkley. So I deleted all vice presidents prior to Coolidge.Ericl (talk) 16:49, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Nonconsecutive tenure
[edit]Regarding people who served nonconsecutive stints in a single position, I personally think they're outside the scope of this article, since it's based on the number of positions, not whether the periods were non-consecutive (which would potentially mean that people who served in one position directly after the other would technically be ineligible for the list). 2601:249:9301:D570:9AE:8897:7C48:F3B5 (talk) 00:02, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
