Force of nature
[edit]Does anyone know which church was affected by the tornado? Since there are 3 - All Saints' (C of E), a Baptist Church, and a Catholic Church. Also more on the floods would be good. 128.232.250.254 11:12, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I know it was All Saints church - many of the trees in the churchyard were damaged. I've added this to the article, but I don't know anything about the floods. RichF 15:34, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
I don't want to be a killjoy.....but flash floods sounds a bit too dramatic.!!! KH High Street just has some poor drains in the dip.....If anyone wants to share their experiences of small cars and pushchairs flying past in a torrent of rushing water and Big-Mac wrappers I am prepared to listen.....There was a small tremor about 8-10 yrs ago but I wouldn't mention Earthquakes in Kings Heath.......
- I never saw the floods themselves, it's what I've heard from people who were on the High Street at the time. Of course they might have been exaggerating a bit. I _think_ they happened, but I've removed it pending some verification. 128.232.250.254 21:40, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- There was a tremor 4 years ago too however the epicenter was in Dudley and and it barely affected Kings Heath. I think they were both on September 23 however were about 5 years apart. Weird. - Erebus555 19:20, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, that was the one I was referring too....it seemed more distant but you are right about the year. If I remember rightly, I was listening to Edwena Currie on the BBC 5-Live chat show when she commented about the earth moving (Insert J Major joke) live on air. It was broadcast from the BBC Studios in Edgbaston which is only 2 mile from Kings Heath......yes it was centred on Dudley and gave Lenny Henry 50% of his material for his next tour...but I was only using it as a metaphor to illustrate that Kings Heath doesn't really have flash floods...
Origin
[edit]Some sources, e.g. A.D. Mills, A Dictionary of British Place-Names (Oxford, 2003), argue that Kings Heath was first recorded in 1511 as Kyngesheth, meaning "the King's heath". Further reading needs to be done on this topic. Zeth (talk) 01:53, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Estate agents
[edit]The whole article reads like an estate agents blurb eg Bishop Challoner's one of the best schools in Britain. Really? Other anecdotal niceties are included rather than straight facts —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.36.121.2 (talk) 22:10, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Education
[edit]Bishop Challoner RC School is not one of the top schools in Britain, it's not even one of the top schools in Birmingham. Ten years ago it was one of the worst, things might have improved since then but not to that extent. The original edit was vandalism so I've removed it.
