"Thwarting critics that had said that Zmeskal had won the championship title only because the competition was held in the United States, Zmeskal turned out two gold medal performances at the Individual Apparatus Championships in Paris. (However, many pointed out that the field at this World Chapionships was not very strong, nor were the competitors in peak form)."

This last sentence comes off as bitter and mean-spirited--either she won or she didn't. It's very easy to say "she only won because..." because no answer can be made for that. Also, MANY athletic competitions are decided because one or more competitors are not "in peak form"--that's the nature of the game. You lose because you're not in peak form, either physically or mentally. Part of being a top athlete means maintaining your health and conidition. Kim did so, and so she won. Absent a more specific argument of "the defending World bars champion missed due to injury" or "Zmeskal was expected to challenge [XYZ athlete] who dropped out unexpectedly at the last minute" that weasel word-y sentence should be stricken. 64.132.218.4 (talk) 14:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edits

[edit]

I provided much-needed edits and structure to this article. While some editors are obviously big fans of Kim, this article is not the place for such glowing praise. These articles shouldn't read like fan pages. Her record stands for itself.--Lindsay (talk) 03:10, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Notes

[edit]

These are also comments that do not belong on the main article. I was in middle school with Zim, and was in several classes with her. In addition to being a world-class athlete, she is also incredibly nice. She told me that Bela Karolyi would call her "Kimbo." She wasn't all that fond of the nickname, but she was just too sweet-natured (that's my assessment) to tell him that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.216.108.60 (talk) 03:18, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
