Christians in sport
[edit]Is there a category for Christians in sport? Surely, Edwards belongs here? ACEO 20:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Not any more he doesn't. Although I don't know that he necessarily qualifies as an atheist (as someone has categorised him) either. Widmerpool 11:52, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed; I have taken him out of the atheist category. An atheist denies the existence of all gods as opposed to being confused about their existence - he still goes to church, for example. TerriersFan 16:58, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- However, the Times article from June 2007 says that he is "now, to all intents and purposes, an atheist". 86.132.137.224 02:12, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yup he is now, I put him back in. Also put him in 'Category:Former Protestants' as I believe that was his denomination, if I am mistaken please change it to Roman Catholic or whatever denomination he was, I think it was Protestant though. EchetusXe (talk) 21:25, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- Of course he is an atheist - he denies the existence of Odin and Osiris and Ganesha .... and apparently now also El !!! Just because someone believes in the Abrahamic God, doesn't mean they are not an atheist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.76.113.250 (talk) 16:45, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Marriage
[edit]I removed the assertion that his marriage may be in difficulty. We need something better than rumours and allegations - this is an encyclopedia not a gossip column. --h2g2bob (talk) 20:16, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Page move
[edit]People who watch this page might like to comment on the requested move at Jonathan Edwards (theologian). The proposal is to make Jonathan Edwards first and foremost a page about the theologian, rather than the disambiguation page that it currently is. Sam Staton (talk) 14:04, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think this has closed now. I think the only outcome was a slight rearrangement of the disambiguation page. Sam Staton (talk) 15:11, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
[edit]You do? Me too!
Anyway, if anyone knows which charity the other quarter (Edwards' quarter) went to then please add it in.--EchetusXe (talk) 13:07, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]The picture blocks some of the text. Somebody change it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.47.191.173 (talk) 22:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- I think I've fixed it. Either way, it's only happening because the article is disgracefully short. Hopefully someone much better than I comes along to expand it at some point. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 00:15, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Atheist?
[edit]Was just looking through the sources. The National Secular Society states "Jonathan Edwards – atheist, agnostic or something else?".[1], and the only apparent primary source [2] states "I am not unhappy about the fact that there might not be a God". Is this not a statement of agnosticism?
It would seem inappropriate to label him 'atheist' when he hasn't himself stated that he is one or made sufficiently concrete statements to justify this label. Sumbuddi (talk) 15:48, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Quote from the bible
[edit]I quite like the fact one can still readily draw on an old text. The question is what did he say? Was it a dubious line of pure religious dogma, akin to "apocrypha"? Was it a common mantra? Was it a studied, apt and inspiring phrase which shows signs of his wisdom or key to motivations for success? Please can someone provide this as it sheds a good deal of light on what the Bible may continue to genuinely offer to people who have renounced a faith. - Adam37 Talk 10:53, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
