History
[edit]It would appear that the history of Independence ends somewhere in the 1920's or 30's. This history section needs rewritten and there is much that has happened in Independence since the depression era. I will attempt to add some here in the next couple of months. Let's see if I can get it done! Cuprum17 (talk) 04:41, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- I work at the library in town and we are going to start using some of our reference materials to update the history of Independence, we are having a few edit-a-thons to work on this and look forward to getting some history up for our town.Jlongipl (talk) 18:32, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Started a new history section and just roughed in the very beginning of Independence we hope to get some people helping during our Edit-A-Thon I just wanted to give them a start. Jlongipl (talk) 20:54, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
William Inge Center for the Arts
[edit]This link has been removed arbitrarily from the article as unimportant by someone that doesn't know the importance of the Inge Center to the Cityof Independence. The Inge Center brings performing artists together each year in a celebration of the works of Inge and his contemporaries as well as cutting edge theater performance. This occurs each April and is a nationally known event. Until a separate article on the Inge Center can be written I would like to see the link back in the article. Unfortunately, my attempt on writing the article on the Inge Center would be a hash, as I am only a beginner. Anyone care to step in here and write an article on the Inge Center? In the meantime I am adding the link back to the article. Cuprum17 (talk) 03:09, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but this doesn't fit the external links policy: this does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article, and it is only indirectly related to the article's subject. This has not been removed arbitrarily. Nyttend (talk) 03:26, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Mapping
[edit]It's probably worth mentioning that Independence is location for the US IP address, type US directions into Google maps and the pin shows up here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.237.187.239 (talk) 00:39, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Early History
[edit]I'm a little hazy on reading the first couple of sentences. The land for Independence was bought in September 1869 and was first named Colfax, but the land was actually settled the month prior to this purchase and already was named Independence? That is how it reads currently. Is this accurate? I feel like another sentence or rewording could provide some clarification. BarkeepChat 15:30, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
