Title

[edit]

I suggest changing the title of this article to "Hollywood Blacklist", with the 'B' capitalized. Narfhead4444, Gamer Ordinare 23:48, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(For anyone else reading this, note that I have since contested the proposed change in capitalization in this reply elsewhere.) SilverLocust 💬 07:33, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. "B" should not be capitalized. Figureofnine (talkcontribs) 23:56, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Factual Inconsistency

[edit]

The section HUAC return (1951 - 1952) cites scholar Thomas Doherty's description of Lionel Stander being accused of Communist allegiance in 1951 to posit that HUAC hearings "swept onto the blacklist those who had never even been politically active, let alone suspected of being Communists". However, the Background section explains Lionel Stander was previously accused of being a Communist by John Leech in 1940, with Stander's studio firing him over the matter.

A quick look at the source suggests Doherty was actually arguing that Stander earned the controversial status foisted upon him due to allegations of Communism by challenging the allegations and the HUAC's authority. For these reasons, I think the Doherty portion of this section should be removed. V 314159 (talk) 08:57, 14 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for raising this issue. I agree that Lionel Stander was not a good illustration of an "innocent bystander" who was mistakenly swept up in the blacklist. I've just updated that section with what I hope are clearer examples of the point being made. The-dansker (talk) 15:07, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
