  • ... that at the 1965 World Pentathlon Championships, Herbert Polzhuber is said to have drunk 10 beers and a bottle of cognac before firing his pistol at the ground and passing out? Source: several sources: SB Nation (for an English one - "Herbert Polzhuber was a multi-talented athlete who competed for Austria in fencing and pentathlon in four straight Olympic Games. He also took part in the 1965 Pentathlon World Championship in Leipzig. After posting good scores in equestrian and fencing, Polzhuber was set to take part in pistol shooting, the third event. It’s unclear whether nerves, or just a desire to party, fueled Polzhuber, but the result was the same. The story goes that Polzhuber drank 10 beers and downed an entire bottle of cognac before he was set to shoot, at which point he made it onto the pistol course, fired all his bullets into the ground and passed out on the spot.") - plus Hungarian publications Borsodihir and TEOL and German Der Spiegel

  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
  • Remove refs from lead.
    • Removed.
  • Nothing else on his early life? Austrian newspaper archives? lol.
  • "the latter of which he did not start" not sure what that means. He didn't "start" the epee events??
  • "In the individual modern pentathlon event, he placed 33rd, while in the team event Austria placed 10th, and in the team fencing competitions they tied for ninth." Where did he place in the individual fencing event?
    • As said above, he withdrew from that one.
  • "Its unclear the reason" change to "It is unclear"
    • Changed.
  • "both state that at the time athletes" add commas "both state that, at the time, athletes"
    • Added.
  • "commonly drank it prior to " I don't think "it" is supposed to be there.
    • Removed.
  • "In the team event Austria placed ninth, while in the individual event Polzhuber had the best placement of his Olympic career" change to "Austria placed ninth in the team event while Polzhuber had the best placement of his Olympic career in the individual event"
    • Changed.
  • "By the end of the year, Polzhuber was ranked as the fourth-best fencer in the world." who ranked that?
    • According to the source: "Herbert Polzhuber beendete die Weltcupsaison auf Rang 4 [Herbert Polzhuber finished the World Cup season in 4th place.]" There is an article on Fencing World Cup, although it says it began in 1972, whereas the 'World Cup season' Polzhuber competed in was in 1971? Thoughts?
  • Link Vienna, Austria in body and infobox.
    • Linked.

I think that's everything. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 16:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GA

[edit]

@WikiOriginal-9: I think you accidentally put Polzhuber in the football player GA category when it should be in the 'Fencing' category. BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:15, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
