Ms. White seems only notable for her involvement in the Stephanie Carter case, which is barely notable in itself except that the tragic circumstances surrounding that case have engendered something of a local charity movement. The Order of the Palmetto award cannot really be considered as conferring notability as the list of recipients is 114 pages long. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:56, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
The page has been improved. She has received national attention for being one of the foremost experts on capital punishment. She testified on the subject in front of the Senate Judiciary committee. The Marchbanks trial received national attention and will be the subject of a book. Further, she has instructed prosecutors from all over the United States. Divide that 114 by the number of years, and it is impressive considering approximately three a year are awarded. Lawstudent1984 (talk) 15:09, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- The national attention for being a foremost expert on the subject of capital punishment is not borne out by the references. Her position as a solicitor alone would qualify her to testify to the Senate committee; that does not make her a "foremost expert". The references bear out that the Marchbanks trial received local coverage, not national coverage, and the coverage mentioned White only trivially. The reference to the National College of District Attorneys does not verify that she ever taught at that institution. Nor would such a position inherently confer notability (see WP:ACADEMIC). Finally, I believe Lawstudent1984 (talk · contribs) misunderstood my remark about the Order of the Palmetto. There have not been 114 recipients; there are 114 pages of recipients, with 31 names per page, which works out to over 3500 recipients since 1971. And the list even admits of being incomplete. So, I believe we have to conclude that this honor is not so rare or exclusive. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:44, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Since Lawstudent1984 (talk · contribs) disagrees with my assessment of Ms White's notability, I will remove the proposed deletion and instead move this to a Wikipedia:Articles for deletion to gain more consensus. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:46, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I do continue to disagree. The United States Senate would not call White as an expert witness if she was not an expert. Further, if the Order of the Palmetto itself warrants a Wikipedia article, so should its recipients. I fear that the disagreement with the notoriety in this situation is misplaced. Perhaps there would be no disagreement if White was an obscure author rather than a heralded advocate. Delete if you must, but understand that it would be Wikipedia's loss to do so.
