Paragraph does not seem to apply
[edit]How does this paragraph in section 4 apply to a biography of Bill Gaither?
In 1981, Michael W. Smith was signed as a writer to Meadowgreen Music, where he racked up a number of highly successful gospel hits penned for artists like Bill Gaither, Sandi Patty, Kathy Troccoli, and Amy Grant. Some of these songs can also be found in church hymnals.
Not confident in making changes and hope this is the right place to ask the question.

- I agree, it doesn't go in this topic. I'd delete it. Tanglewood4 01:01, 19 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tanglewood4 (talk • contribs)

Looking For A City
[edit]Registered Authors[1]: GAITHER BENJAMIN WILLIAM BMI 129954539 JENNINGS SUZANNE GAITHER ASCAP 128749544 ASCAP: LOOKING FOR A CITY ISWC: T9014745530 Work ID: 423233334 P37307 (talk) 10:21, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
The words to “Looking for a City” were written by W. Oliver Cooper, with music by Marvin P Dalton. It was copyrighted in 1943 at which time Bill Gaither was seven years old. These facts are confirmed on Hymnary.org. JEFFMORAN (talk) 00:27, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
There are several Christian songs titled Looking For a City that are unrelated to other versions. Cooper wrote one.Others did also. It is a common mantra in certain Christian denominations. You were correct to remove the song but not for the reason you did. The Looking for a City song the Gaithers are known for was actually written by Benjamin and Susanne Gaither, Bill Gaither's children, and not William J (Bill) Gaither the article is written about. They did perform and record Coopers version, also, along with many Stamps Baxter published works, including Coopers.--P37307 (talk) 01:17, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
My reason for removing it was because Mr Gaither did not write Looking for a City. Most Southern Gospel fans, especially veterans, think of Cooper’s version when they hear or read that title, so I just didn’t want his work being attributed to an undeserving party. Thanks and God bless. JEFFMORAN (talk) 02:32, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

– The gospel singer has a very long lasting career, about 600 page views a day, and tons of inbound links. The blues singer of the same name has a one paragraph stub of an article and fewer than 10 page views a day. I don't feel there is a recency bias here given the number of years the gospel singer has been active. Of all the people out there named "Bill Gaither", the gospel singer is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and should get the "Bill Gaither" article name above anyone else. - Support, overwhelmingly more popular [1]. I would also suggest moving the disambiguation page to William Gaither (disambiguation). Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 21:59, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
