School Notes Overview:

[edit]

The Academy of the Holy Cross, a Catholic college preparatory school sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Cross since 1868, is dedicated to educating young women in a Christ-centered community which values diversity. The Academy is committed to developing women of courage, compassion, and scholarship who responsibly embrace the social, spiritual and intellectual challenges of the world. The Academy of the Holy Cross is a private Catholic high school for girls. Its college preparatory program reflects a holistic approach to education by fostering the intellectual, physical and moral development of the students. The goal of the educational program is to provide the opportunities and challenges necessary for students to achieve their full potential as Christian women in today's society. To achieve this goal, the curriculum offers students a variety of learning experiences in liberal and creative arts, math, science and career education. The faculty of Holy Cross encourages students to succeed in the educational program by recognizing and providing for individual needs and differences in learning styles. As part of the community of faith at Holy Cross, students are encouraged to clarify their Christian values, deepen their relationship with God and others and develop individual responsibilities for promoting justice in the world. ...read more

The intro to this article reads like it's taken straight from the school's self-promotional literature. It should be re-written to be more encyclopedic and less POV... Valerius Tygart (talk) 15:21, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In your history section you have a few statements that are not quite right. The Upton Street campus closed in the late 1950s not the mid. I was a boarding student at HCA as we called it from 1949 until 1955 when I transferred to Sidwell Friends School. When I was graduated in 1958, Holy Cross was still on Upton Street. It should be noted that during WWII Holy Cross accepted boarding students due to the needs of working mothers during the War, and continued until the school moved.

Dumbarton College was affiliated with Holy Cross and physically connected to it.

The facility was sold to Howard University Law School. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.56.208.60 (talk) 04:59, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article that truly deserves a B-grade. If it were to be a good-article, there must be improvements in some sections, such as history.--(Wikipedian1234 (talk) 22:01, 26 April 2008 (UTC))[reply]
