Portland Office of Equity and Human Rights is an agency created by a city ordinance in 2011 to ensure city actions and policies are equitable for traditionally underserved groups.[4]

History

[edit]

The first director to lead this office was Dante James, who took office in 2012.[5] At the time, the office employed a total of ten people.[5] He was succeeded in 2018 by Interim Director Koffi "Jean-Pierre” Dessou.[6]

In 2025, the office contributed to a project adding textured maps to The Portland Building to assist visitors experiencing blindness or who are visually impaired.[7]
