- Dorothe Engelbretsdotter (born 16 January 1634 in Bergen, Norway, died 19 February 1713 in Bergen), was Norway's first recognized woman author.
- Carl Abraham Pihl (pictured) (born 16 January 1825 in Stavanger, Norway, died 14 September 1897) was Norway's first railroad engineer and director.
- Dr. Douglas C. Engelbart (born 30 January 1925 in Oregon) is an American inventor of Swedish and Norwegian descent.

- Alexander Lange Kielland (18 February 1849 – 6 April 1906) was one of the most famous Norwegian authors of the 19th century.
- Harald V (born 21 February 1937) is the King of Norway. He succeeded to the throne of Norway upon the death of his father Olav V on 17 January 1991.

- Gro Harlem Brundtland (pictured) (born 20 April 1939) is a Norwegian politician, diplomat and physician, and an international leader in sustainable development and public health. She is a former Prime Minister of Norway, and has served as the Director General of the World Health Organization.
- The Battle of Dombås was fought between Norwegian Army infantry forces and German Fallschirmjäger paratroops in mid-April 1940.
- Lars Korvald (29 April 1916 – 4 July 2006) was a Norwegian politician from the Christian Democratic Party. He was Prime Minister of Norway from 1972 to 1973, leading the cabinet that took over when Trygve Bratteli resigned in the wake of the first referendum over Norway's membership in the European Economic Community.

- Harald Tom Nesvik (born 4 May 1966 in Ålesund, Norway) is a Norwegian politician. He is a member of the Progress Party (FrP) and is perhaps most famous outside Norway for nominating Tony Blair and George W. Bush for the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.
- Einar Henry Gerhardsen (10 May 1897 – 19 September 1987) was a Norwegian politician from the Labour Party of Norway. He was Prime Minister for three periods, 1945 - 1951, 1955 - 1963 and 1963 - 1965.
- The Norwegian Constitution Day (parade pictured) is the National Day of Norway and is an official national holiday each year. Among Norwegians, the day is referred to simply as syttende mai (meaning May Seventeenth), Nasjonaldagen (The National Day) or Grunnlovsdagen (The Constitution Day), although the latter is less frequent[citation needed]. The day marks the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in Eidsvoll, 17 May 1814.

- The Union Dissolution Day, observed in Norway on 7 June (though not a public holiday), is marked in remembrance of the Norwegian parliament's 1905 declaration of dissolution (pictured) of the union with Sweden, a personal union which had existed since 1814.
- Oscar Fredrik Torp (8 June 1893 – 1 May 1958) was Prime Minister of Norway 1951 to 1955, and chairman of the Labour party (Det Norske Arbeiderparti) from 1923-1945.

- Abraham Theodor Berge (pictured) (20 August 1851–10 July 1936) was a Norwegian politician representing Venstre, the social liberal party, and later Frisinnede Venstre, a right-of-centre party. Born in Lyngdal in present-day Vest-Agder, he was Prime Minister of Norway from 1923 to 1924.
- John Lyng (22 August 1905 - 18 January 1978) was a Norwegian politician from the Conservative Party. He was Prime Minister of Norway from 28 August to 25 September 1963 in a coalition government of the Conservative Party, the Center Party, the Christian Democratic Party, and the Liberal Party.

- The naval Battle of Svolder (Svold, Swold) was fought in September 999 or 1000 somewhere in the western Baltic between King Olaf Tryggvason of Norway and an alliance of his enemies.
- Kjell Magne Bondevik (pictured) (born 3 September 1947) is a Norwegian Lutheran minister and politician. He served as Prime Minister of Norway from 1997 to 2000, and from 2001 to 2005, making him Norway's longest serving non-Socialist Prime Minister since World War II.
- Johan Nygaardsvold (6 September 1879 - 13 March 1952) was a Norwegian politician from the Labour Party. He was Prime Minister of Norway from 1935 to 1945 (from 1940 to 1945 in exile in London), as head of the cabinet Nygaardsvold.
- Haakon Lie (22 September 1905 – 25 May 2009) was a Norwegian politician who served as party secretary for the Norwegian Labour Party from 1945 to 1969.

- Odd Nansen (6 December 1901 – 27 June 1973) was a Norwegian architect, author, and humanitarian, credited with his humanitarian efforts on behalf of Jews in the early years of World War II and for being a founder of UNICEF.
- The pre-Christian Jul (pronounced: Yule) has survived as the Christmas holiday of Norway. The main event for Norwegians is on Julaften (Christmas Eve) on 24 December, the evening when the main feast is served and gifts are exchanged.
