Thomas Sendgraff is an artist, author, and illustrator who brings whimsical worlds to life for young readers. His book, Melinda the Crow[1], draws on his extensive experience in art making and teaching art workshops. He often incorporates self-made puppets of book characters into live readings.
Art Career
[edit]Thomas' major breakthrough came from his Artist Residency at the Cherry Street Pier in Philadelphia,[2] where he independently created and taught large scale art-making workshops to the community.[3]. He also was featured in Philadelphia news outlets for community programming and selling artwork. [4] During his time in Philadelphia, Thomas featured work at the National Liberty Museum, Princeton University, Hot Air Rises[5][6], Community Art Center of Wellingford,[7] and town of Princeton [8] [9]. Making him a popular artist in the region and Philly art community.
In 2022, Thomas relocated back to New York City. His work has been featured at NYU campus numerous times [10][11], *Beyond Queer Words* magazine,[12] and the *Medical Dialogue Review*.[13] Other projects include collaboration with the Print Center New York and co-curating exhibitions at NYU.[14]. He has also opened stained glass short-term pop-up art shops in upstate New York [15]
Education
[edit]Thomas graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, with an MA in Instructional Technology and Media in 2020.[16] Where he created podcast about media and social impact, e.g. makerspace education. [17] He is currently studying at NYU Steinhardt in the Visual Arts Administration program. Where he has also won major recognition awards, like Give-a-Violet. [18]
Early Life
[edit]Thomas grew up moving from Colorado and all across New York State. He lived in single parent household and has 2 older sisters.
