Hedvig, also know as Hedvig Försäkring literally means Hedvig insurance and is a Swedish insurance company. Hedvig was founded in 2017..[1] by Lucas Carlsén[2], Fredrik Fors[2] och John Ardelius[3]. The idea to start an new insurance company came from Lucas Carlsén already in 2016 when he worked as a management consultant in the insurance industry. The company's first home insurance launched in May 2018[1]
In 2023 Hedvig has over 140,000 customers[1] . The company provides home insurance, homeowner insurance, house insurance car insurance, and pet insurance in Swedish.
Hedvig has permission[4] from Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen) to conduct insurance operations throughout the EU. Insurers for Hedvig AB[5] is Hedvig Försäkring AB[6] and Eir Försäkring AB[7]
Since October 2023, the company's CEO is Jonas Billberg.[1]
History
[edit]In 2016, Lucas Carlsén gets the idea to start a new Swedish insurance company with a new business model[8]. The idea came after working with Swedish insurance companies. The first seed for Hedvig had been sown and the company was registered at the end of the year with the Swedish Companies Registration Office Bolagsverket.
Together with Fredrik Fors and AI researcher John Ardelius, Lucas Carlsén founded Hedvig in 2017 in a basement in Stockholm.[8]
In May 2018, Hedvig is launched on the Swedish market[9]. The first policies offered are home insurance.
In 2019, Wired magazine lists Hedvig as one of Sweden's hottest startups.[10]. In the same year, Lucas Carlsén and Fredrik Fors are ranked in Forbes 30 under 30[2]
1st of April 2021[11], Hedvig receives her own insurance license[12] from the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority Finansinspektionen[13] to conduct insurance operations. Previously, Hedvig had only been an insurance broker.
In 2022, Hedvig expands its range of insurances from home insurance to also offer car insurance.[14]
In 2023, 2 more insurances will be launched, animal insurance for dogs and cats. Hedvig also get a new CEO in Jonas Billberg. A a new major shareholder in the private equity company Adelis comes in. At the end of the year, over 140,000 customers are insured.[1]
