Television editing & producing
[edit]De Lucia has made over 1,000 episodes of television.[2] She specializes in political shows, having worked on, among others, The Daily Show,[3] and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.[4] She also often works in the social justice space, including shows led by LeBron James and Ava DuVernay.[5]
Early credits
[edit]
While a freshman at Berklee College of Music, De Lucia's first job was working as a production assistant on America's Got Talent in 2009.[6] Initially, she was only hired to help with one weekend of Boston auditions, but a senior producer there named Elyse liked working with her and requested De Lucia stay on longer.[2] De Lucia then worked the auditions around the country and later, after dropping out of college (and leaving Boston) in 2010, on the weekly episodes in Los Angeles, California.[7]
De Lucia also worked on the production staff of Skating with the Stars.[8] In 2011, she worked in the story department of the shows Breaking Pointe, Majors & Minors, and Model Latina.[9]
From 2012 - 2014, De Lucia worked as an assistant editor on several television shows, including Swamp People, I Wanna Marry "Harry", Ultimate Survival Alaska, and Shahs of Sunset.[10] She also she worked in the story department of Life Flight, which was the show in which she earned her Motion Picture Editors Guild union card.[2]
In 2015, De Lucia she served as a story assistant on Dancing with the Stars. Additionally, she worked as a post-production coordinator on shows like Project Runway: Threads and Smile for Lifetime.[11] De Lucia also had her first job as a producer, on the show Living with the Jacksons.[12]
The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore (first editing job)
[edit]
On September 28, 2015 (at the beginning of season 2), De Lucia was hired as an assistant editor on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.[13] On January 21, 2016 (season 2, episode 52), she was promoted to editor. She remained an editor on the series until its final episode on August 18, 2016.[14]
On September 28, 2015, while in New York, she was hired on the spot, and moved with no notice from Los Angeles, California to Manhattan, New York for her new job on The Nightly Show. At the end of her interview, the interviewer stated that if De Lucia wanted the job, she'd have to start the next day; De Lucia called her then-boss in California, apologetically quit, extended her initially one-night hotel stay, went shopping for more clothes (as all she had with her was her interview dress plus yoga pants and t-shirts for the plane), and began her new job the following morning.[12]
De Lucia has stated that, at least as of 2025, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is the credit she is proudest of, citing reasons like "getting to work with such a wonderfully smart, funny, diverse staff... plus, importantly, getting to work on such thoughtful, meaningful material." Plus "small things everybody wants like great hours, endless catering, bathrooms stocked with free tampons, and amazingly fair pay."[2]
When asked when she knew she had made it in the industry, De Lucia said she wasn't sure she could say she had "made it" yet, but her first hint that she may have begun to make it somewhere was when, on the day of the final episode of The Nightly Show, "I was handing out thank you cards to everyone on staff. When I got to Jon Stewart, I looked at him with tears in my eyes, telling him 'you don’t need me to say all this since you’ll see it in the card, but you’ve changed my whole life. I dreamt of working for you on a political show that puts good into the world and helps propel things forward, and I actually got to do it. I got to move to New York City and live in Times Square. I got promoted here from assistant editor to full editor. I’m so proud of the work we’ve done and I’ve loved every moment. So, thank you so much for changing my life.' He looked at me and said, 'Thank you, Aurora, but no. You changed your own life. Every person in this building is here because they are some of the best at what they do, and that includes you. It was your talent, your creativity, your tenacity that changed your life. It wasn’t me.' Then we took a selfie that’s actually still my phone background to this day."[2][12]
Further editor & producer credits
[edit]In 2016, after The Nightly Show was canceled, De Lucia started working on Greatest Ever, until its final episode on May 26, 2017.[15] She then did a guest editor stint on The Daily Show before starting work on the sketch show Grown & Sexy for VH1.[16] Once that was cancelled in 2019, she worked as the lead editor on talk show Beauty and Bubbles from 2019 until its cancellation in February 2020.[17]
From early to mid 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when productions had shut down, she worked on the cartoon Your Daily Horoscope (which could be completely made by people at home) for Quibi until mid-2020[18] when she started working as an editor and post producer on The Carlos Watson Show where she researched, edited, and executed several approximately thirty-minute deep dives on various figures like Pete Buttigieg, Anita Hill, Gretchen Whitmer, and Debbie Allen until the show was cancelled in 2021.[19]
Also in 2020 and 2021, she worked on a documentary about racism called Bear Witness, Take Action 2: Continuing the Movement,[20] executive produced by LeBron James, and was an editor on the show Home Sweet Home on NBC, executive produced by Ava DuVernay until its final episode in 2021.[21]
Form 2021 to 2022, she worked on the talk shows The Drew Barrymore Show and The Good Dish on CBS.[22] Then, from 2022 to 2024, she served as the post-production supervisor of various Martha Stewart series (Martha Cooks, Martha Gardens, and Martha Holidays) until their final episodes in the summer of 2024.[23]
From 2024 to 2025, De Lucia was the supervising post producer and lead editor of a show that covered the news in the battleground states leading up to, and then the aftermath from, the 2024 United States presidential election.[24]
Memberships in professional organizations
[edit]De Lucia has earned memberships in several arts organizations that have stringent rules for requirements, such as ACE membership which requires seventy-two working months as an editor, an application with essay components, a sponsorship from two other ACE members, and committee approval.[25]
The following is a list of her professional organization memberships:
- Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (The Television Academy) (multi-hyphenate status. as an editor and producer)
- American Cinema Editors (ACE)
- The Producers Guild (PGA)
- Actors Equity Association (AEA)[26]
- Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA)[26]
- International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE)
- Motion Picture Editors Guild (MPEG, local 700)[2]
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
Education
[edit]De Lucia has a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, with a double major in Music Production for & Engineering and Electronic Production & Design, and a dual minor in Creative Coding and Sound Design for Video Games.[27]
She chose to go to Berklee College of Music because Quincy Jones (Michael Jackson's producer) had gone there, and she had been inspired to go into the entertainment industry because of Michael Jackson.[12]
Initially, De Lucia dropped out of college in 2010, after being in and out of the hospital for over a year with health complications for a congenital heart defect. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, one of her professors reached out saying that she should consider finishing. He told her if she ever wanted to go back, right now was the time, as she she wouldn't have to move back to Boston and Berklee likely would never be going remotely again. So, she re-enrolled in the summer of 2020 and finished her degree in August of 2021 (eleven years after initially dropping out).
Athletic philanthropic projects
[edit]De Lucia is an avid runner and has run over one-hundred half marathons, several marathons, and a few ultra-marathons. Her longest race was a fifty-miler. She has fundraised over $30,000 for charities through her athletic projects.
52 Half Marathons in 52 Weeks After Open-Heart Surgery
[edit]From January 2012 - January 2013, De Lucia ran 52 half marathons in 52 weeks,[28][29] after open-heart surgery for a rare case of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.[30] In the process, she raised $6,300 for the charity Broadway Impact, in support of marriage equality.[31][32] During the project, she ran in 13 different states, and completed the entirety of one of the half marathons on crutches after sustaining a sprained ankle in a half marathon the week prior.[33]
In response to the 52 half marathons in 52 weeks project, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker said De Lucia "blows him away."[34] She also won the Spirt Award, meant to "recognize individuals who inspire and embody perseverance and strength," from the Columbus Marathon.[35] Additionally, she was featured as a "life changer" in Women's Running Magazine.[36] CNN'S HLN named her the "True Champion of the Day."[37]
When asked how she would celebrate the end of the project, she repeated the oft-quoted line, "I'm going to Disney World!,"[38] running her last race of the series in Orlando, Florida.[39] The day after the 52nd half marathon of the series, De Lucia celebrated by running a full marathon, completing the Goofy Challenge while in Orlando.[40][41]
Shortly after she completed her 52 half marathons in 52 weeks, Keepsake Theme Quilts, a quilting company promoting diversity, employing nearly all deaf workers, made her a quilt featuring shirts from her various races.[42]
Project 882
[edit]From January 2017 - January 13, 2018, De Lucia ran "Project 882" - "882 race miles in a year to represent the 882 Americans sexually assaulted every day,"[43] raising money for non-profits that help survivors of sexual and domestic violence. She raised $13,100 for Crime Victims Treatment Center (CVTC), $10,605 for Peace Over Violence, and $2,495 for RAINN for a total of $26,200 (as a reference to the 26.2 miles in a marathon).
During her project, she appeared as a panelist on the Dr Oz show to talk about sexual abuse.[44] De Lucia received a letter from Hillary Clinton, supporting her in Project 882.[45]
Game show(s) contestant
[edit]De Lucia has appeared on multiple games shows, and as of February, 2025 has won a total of $44,128.15 in cash and prizes.
The Price is Right
[edit]In March of 2013, she appeared on on The Price is Right[46][47] using the $1-over bid strategy in contestants' row to secure a set of four DXG camcorders and make it onstage[48] where she then won a car, and an additional $96, playing the Money Game.[49]
While spinning the Showcase Showdown wheel, host Drew Carey and De Lucia chatted with her about her open-heart surgery; when asked what she wanted to say in the microphone while the wheel spun, her shoutout to the audience was "even though it's cheesy, believe in yourself; you are who you decide to be."[50] She spun 55 cents, with Cary remarking that she almost got the 95, as the arrow was sitting at the edge between the two the spaces, narrowly missing 95. De Lucia had to spin a second time as the contestant she needed to beat sat at 80 cents. On the second spin, De Lucia spun a 50, ultimately going 5 cents over the dollar, therefore not advancing to the Showcase round.[50]
After the show aired, De Lucia paid $2,067 in sales tax to drive the winning car off the lot. In addition to the sales tax, she paid some amount of federal and state taxes, estimated at around $7,000 (based on the median income of Los Angeles residents at the time), as the value of the prizes was treated like additional income and taxed as such.[51] De Lucia gave the camcorders to charity and sold the car - initially valued on the show at $19,652 - for $14,800 (as it had technically become a used car once it was in her name).[51][52][53]
Let's Make a Deal
[edit]In April of 2015, she was "zonked" on Let's Make a Deal, after picking the envelope instead of a box. During this episode, host Wayne Brady asked De Lucia's dad, in the audience, for his advice, which was was not to listen to him and just pick whatever she wanted.[54][55] De Lucia lost a trip to Mexico in favor of a joke "zonk" trip to outer space, which was valued as a $100 consolation prize.[56]
Wheel of Fortune
[edit]Gameplay
[edit]In April of 2020, on Wheel of Fortune, De Lucia won the episode's prize puzzle by successfully "hopping on the express," after landing on the express wedge - securing a trip to Barbados.[57][58] De Lucia started the game by winning both of the first two "toss-up" puzzles. Then, in control of the first puzzle, she correctly called letters until landing on "lose a turn," after which the next player (Steve) solved the puzzle. Steve then started in control on the second puzzle, which he solved as well.[59] Then, the third player (Ben) got to begin with control of the third puzzle (the prize puzzle). Ben incorrectly guessed the letter s, which gave control of the puzzle to De Lucia who landed on the express wedge, filled in every consonant, and correctly solved that puzzle for a total of $15,930 ($7,500 in cash and a trip to Barbados valued at $8,430) won in that round.[58] Next, she solved two of the three toss-ups in the "Triple Toss-Up" round. In the 4th puzzle, De Lucia spun a bankrupt and lost control of the board again. Nonetheless, because of her toss-ups and large third-wound win, she still won the game.[59][60]
Viral moment
[edit]De Lucia went viral for being "hilariously devastated" after losing the Bonus Round.[61] With 10 seconds on the clock (after getting the standard RSTLNE and getting to choose three consonants - DHP - and one vowel - O), she was unable to come up with the answer to "_ / _ _R_ / O_ _ER." Once the buzzer sounded, she dramatically fell to her knees, letting out a loud disappointed sound.[61] As she stood back up, she expressed disappointment in her gameplay, dejectedly hung her head, and said, sadly, "I hope nobody watches this."[60] Pat Sajak responded "Well, we're hoping they do!" De Lucia then burst out laughing.[59] Sajak opened the envelope to reveal that she would've won $37,000 as an additional bonus had she correctly answered the bonus puzzle of "A Firm Offer." Nonetheless, as journalist Nagelhout summed up, "Despite declaring herself a 'loser,' De Lucia is now officially a Wheel champion."[56]
Public response
[edit]De Lucia was an extremely polarizing figure to those at home, attracting a large amount of negative reactions, such as, "Aurora from Wheel of Fortune tonight is among the most unlikable people in America," and "explain to me why this Aurora chick on Wheel of Fortune is dead seriously wearing pig tails as an adult on national television."[57] Whereas, there was also an opposing sea of positive reactions. For instance, one writer referred to the aforementioned pigtails as "whimsical."[61] Additionally, commenters said things like, "She was a great contestant! Filled with life and personality. Exaggerated, yes, but she was being herself. She made the episode memorable,"[62] "we were laughing so hard, we were crying,"[63] and "I like that woman's spirit!"[62]
Since the episode aired in April 2020, COVID-19 pandemic-related sentiments were also present in comments, such as, "I bet Aurora was sent by Carole Baskin to move the spotlight over a bit," and "Aurora is the Wheel of Fortune contestant America needs in this time of pandemic."[63]
De Lucia's response to the public's reactions
[edit]In response the large public discourse, De Lucia explained more about her mindset at the time, revealing, "

Personal life
[edit]Aurora De Lucia is from Los Angeles, California.[64]
While an undergraduate student at Berklee College of Music, she passed out during a class, which led to her being diagnosed with a rare form of Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome; after several semesters full of many failed ablations and trying medications with too many negative effects, plus complications (such as a blood clot on her heart), she had open-heart surgery.[32][33]
She regularly gives blood, and is type O+.[65]
De Lucia is an avid traveler and certified rescue scuba diver.[66]
Every year for her birthday, she does something she's never done before.[66]
She is very close with her dad, going on a annual trip with him ever since she was a kid in Indiana, to see the Pacers play at a different arena each year.[66] Her and her dad have also run two half marathons together. Additionally, while De Lucia was working on Dancing with the Stars, she was chatting with co-worker Marilu Henner, and told Henner that her dad was a big fan. Henner then asked De Lucia to get out her phone, at which point she called De Lucia's dad to have a conversation with him.[2]
