Route Description

[edit]

75th Street begins at U.S Route 34 in west Naperville, close to Aurora. Shortly afterward, the road has a junction with Illinois Route 59. It then goes on through residential and industrial areas, intersecting many other DuPage county roads, such as CR 1 (Plainfield-Naperville Road) and CR 40 (Wehrli Road). In addition, 75th Street also goes through other natural features, including both branches of the DuPage River and several forest preserves. 75th Street then intersects with Illinois Route 53 and Interstate 355 in Woodridge. Then, it passes through more residential-industrial area, with junctions on CR 56 (Woodward Avenue) in Woodridge, CR 9 (Lemont Road), CR 15 (Cass Avenue), and CR 31 (Plainfield Road) in Darien. Then, 75th Street ends at Illinois Route 83 in Willowbrook.

History

[edit]

In 1842, Naperville was laid out by Joseph Naper. One of the roads the Naper laid out was the west side of what is now 75th Street [citation needed]. A year later, Hobson School was built in the area between what is now 75th Street and Hobson Road.[2] In the late 19th and 20th centuries, the area surrounding 75th Street was owned by several farmers.[3]

In 2018, a mosque was established by the Islamic Center of Naperville. Just recently, construction in the intersections with Millbrook Drive, Modaff Road, Olympus Drive, and Greene Road was completed, providing better signal posts and extended left-turn lanes.
