Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia 5

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fifth Philly Wikipedia Meetup will happen on November 11 at 5:00 pm. It is hosted by WikiProject Philadelphia at Buca Di Beppo, 258 South 15th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102. This will keep with our stated goal of having one of these events every three to four months.

If you've never attended a meetup before, it is very informal, mostly getting to know your fellow editors. Most people order a meal. This time more so than in the past, there will be some updates on local efforts, including the Pennsylvania Wikimedia chapter and possibly discussion of putting together a bid for a future Wikimania.

Post meeting

[edit]

12 attendees. Much fun was had by all. The food was good (the goat-cheese stuffed chicken seemed to be a favorite) and the decor was... well, priceless. There was some discussion of the future wikimania bid and the creation of a Pennsylvania wikimedia chapter. We also welcomed several new faces to their first Philadelphia wikimeetup. Other topics of discussion included the ever-important notability, verifiability, and neutral point of view, especially as they related to Philadelphia topics. We agreed that nobody will ever come to a consensus on which cheesesteak eateries should be included in the cheesesteak article (note that we have done that before in previous meetups).

Next meetup page is Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia 6, and should happen around January or February. I TexasDex will be organizing it if there are no objections.

  • Very fun indeed, will defently come to more future meetups, though I have to look at times more in the future so if there is a basketball/hockey/baseball game that same night, I could suggest a earlier time so I can do the meetup and a game. Just have to remind evrik to check under plates the next time he handles them, lol. Whammies Were Here 15:12, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The restaurant wants a headcount. If we have more than 20 we have to order banquet style. I'm going to say we go with the "Classico" option.

Please rate the likelihood of you attending, on a scale of 0 to 10 (zero being not at all likely to attend, and ten being absolutely likely to attend). Edit the list by squeezing in your rating, in order, from 10 (top) to 0 (bottom), so that when it comes closer to 11-11, we'll all have a good idea of likely headcount, just by looking at the 10's, 9's, and 8's at the top of the list.

Please indicate how many will be in you party.

To do

How you can help prepare:

Directions

[edit]

Bucha di Beppo:

258 South 15th Street (between Locust & Spruce)
Philadelphia, PA 19102

Get off at 15th Street Station, taking the southwest exit (the one with the clothespin! if you get off at the east exit right below City Hall you'll have to cross 15th). Walk south on 15th street for several blocks, it will be on the right.

Get off at Walnut–Locust. Walk West on Locust (or Walnut) for one block, turn left onto 15th Street, and walk south until you see it on your right.

Get off at Suburban Station, walk East one block to 15th street, turn right and keep walking south until you see it on your right.

Bus routes that pass within a few blocks include 9, 12, 21, and 42. Many other buses that pass by City Hall could be used also, since Bucha di Beppo is within easy walking distance of it.

Get off at 15th-16th street station, walk south on 15th St until you see it on your right.

Driving

[edit]

Given that it's Center City on a Sunday night, driving may be a poor choice. However there do seem to be a few parking garages nearby. My guess would be taking the Vine Street Expressway, and getting off at the intersection of Vine St. and Broad, going south on 15th. Somebody who actually drives should fill this in.

Invite list

[edit]

This is pretty much the invite list used for the last meetup. It was not compiled in any really systematic way and is certainly not a complete list of users from this region. It would probably be worthwhile to attempt to expand it. Can you take on this challenge?? Add my name to the list of invitees

    • Note: If you make any additions to this list now, please also invite the user directly. All the users that were on this list as of 10/30/07 recieved an invitation.

Hello badge

[edit]

Hi, guys. I designed a WikiHelloBadge for the Nov 2007 NYC Meetup for anyone who wants to use it, so if people at other Meetups want to use it, feel free. The design is supposed to represent Wikipedians of every possible persuasion, at least symbolically. I made it a double image so that when you print it out, you can fold it in the middle and laminate it so that's it's double-sided (if you plan on hanging it instead of clipping it). I included spaces so that you can identify yourself by your real name, or your Wiki Username, or both, whichever you feel comfortable with. A high-res version of it is on its upload page. And if someone wants to use it at a Meetup in a location where a language other than English is spoken, feel free to modify the greeting into a different language! After all, it's in the public domain now, so all I ask is attribution! Cheers! Nightscream 17:04, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No offense intended, but there's no way I'm going to wear one of these. ike9898
Seconded. A "My name is" with the wikipedia globe would probably suffice. Simpler, and works better in B&W. Or even just blank labels. Thank you though..--TexasDex 20:35, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea, but not what I'd call easy on the eyes. I'll be wearing my con badge from Wikimania Boston for this purpose, but thanks. —CComMack (tc) 23:03, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If I go, Ill probably be in my #13 Eagles jersey anyway, so you know who I am when you see me thereWhammies Were Here 23:22, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. No offense taken. :-) Nightscream 17:40, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Can we finalize the location? --evrik (talk) 14:37, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Lemongrass might or might not have enough seating, I've never been before so I'm not positive either way. My concern would be since it's a weekend Mad4Mex would be extremely busy since it's popular with the colleges. I really don't care where it's at as long as it's not sushi (ick), and Gordon will eat pretty much anything. --ImmortalGoddezz 20:02, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Whats wrong with sushi?!? (lol). Im not particulary picky, so whatever you guys decide, im all for it. Whammies Were Here 12:01, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • :-P Could never get over the concept of it. Buca Di Beppo We just went to Buca Di Beppo, Italian food, a few weeks ago and that seemed interesting. There's tons of seating (and a room garishly decorated with pictures of the Pope.) Though one draw back; most of the entrees come in two sizes small (which serves two) or large (which serves 4). They do have individual servings but it's cheaper just to go for a small that serves two. Dinner menu Anyway that's Gordon's suggestion and I wouldn't mind doing that if it came down to it. One mixto entree = One Buca entree that serves two people. --ImmortalGoddezz 17:17, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
