Philly meetup

[edit]

Hi, Luciuskwok! There will be a Wikipedia Meetup in Philadelphia on 4 November. If you're interested in coming, RSVP by editing Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia 2 to reflect the likelihood of your being able to attend. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Hopefully, we'll all see you (and each other) on the 4th! --CComMack (t•c) 17:35, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Wikipedia full of errors?

[edit]

The more I go through Wikipedia on more esoteric and techinical articles, the more I find errors and unverifiable or unsourced information. The worse are pages which few people see and fewer edit. There's also the problem that a lot of statements that are repeated on many web pages on the Internet are taken as truth, without verifying the sources or checking the facts. These often make their way into Wikipedia articles.

Generally, articles relating to computers and similar technical subjects are pretty accurate. Articles on popular subjects that many people read tend to also be good, though I don't know about the accuracy. But when it comes to subjects outside these areas, it's very uneven. Particularly in the Transit and Railroad areas. It's a minefield of incorrect or misleading information, often without any citations of sources or any way to verify the information. In many cases, people are just repeating the same myths found elsewhere on the Internet as truth on Wikipedia.

Granted, this is the way of most of the Internet, and Wikipedia is no worse. But it's also not much better, so I've been putting most of my effort into my own personal web site lately. I still enjoy research and writing web pages and making drawings, but it's going on my own server where I have control over the content. It's been an interesting experiment for me, but I'm afraid it's not my cup of tea. [1] [2] [3] --Luciuskwok 09:37, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It has been requested that the spelling of "Progress Park" within the image be corrected. Any chance of this? Also, any chance of getting an editable format of the image, like SVG? I may be able to help you convert whatever your design source is to SVG, if that would help. Rpresser 14:35, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Always add larger place names

[edit]

I tripped across an article about a railway station (using Random Article -- I highly recommend it). Nowhere on the page does it say where this station is, at least not in a way that anyone outside the immediate location would know. I recommend adding a link to the closest major city -not suburb- to these articles so people coming across the article will know what the heck it's about! Maury 13:43, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SEPTA diesel map needed

[edit]

Hello - I created an article called SEPTA diesel service and it deseperately needs a map highlighting these routes. You made an exceptional, comprehensive map for the SEPTA Regional Rail article and was wondering if you could do the same for the diesel article. Many thanx! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
