Kiarostami

[edit]

Hi Xiner! hope you are fine.

The Cinematic style of Abbas Kiarostami was previously a part of Abbas Kiarostami. So we did not want to make it as comprehensive as we could. It is now 40 kb and it is a separate article so we can even expand it further. I made a summary of it with a size of less than 15 kb and put it back to Kiarostami. I tried to trim it further, but I got strong objection from users. They recover some of my deletions and the size increased to 18-19 kb. I think as long as the whole article is in acceptable size range, we are fine. And honestly the cinematic style section is the most interesting section of the article. In any case if you find some sentences unnecessary, please feel free to delete it. Thanks. Sangak 07:52, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point. It would be good if you could help us with it. As I said I once trimed it further and I got objections from other for instance see [1] and [2]. I really cann't do anything as there is no consensus between reviewers. Please feel free to make it shorter. Thanks. Sangak 14:17, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apart from these, I think the article does not violate FA standards. And if I am not mistaken, a FA article is not considered a closed project and there are always room for improvement (particularly for Kiarostami who is still alive). Take care. Sangak 14:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Xiner! I would like to keep every one happy as much as I can. Sangak 14:36, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assignment

[edit]

Hello, Xiner! Hope you're doing fine! When is the next assignment coming out? Thanks! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 01:37, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Xiner. I gave up on him a couple hours ago. I should have kept cool; I didn't realize how difficult these situations could be. It's a good learning experience, though. Didn't mean to bother you with my persistant assignment messages.

I've seen you a TON at the help desk! You should be proud of yourself for all of the help that you have given other users! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:00, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What article did I need to delete? Or is this a sorta assignment? --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Darn it! Sorry to bring you into this whole Spawn Man mess. It's all my fault!! --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aye. I'm still sorry, though. --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:16, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Your psot on Cremepuff's talk page about myself

[edit]

Hmm, I'm curious about how you take her side on the Jimbo Wales impersonation fiasco. The only reason admins are in fact involved is because I asked them to be as Cremepuff called me a pervert, smelly & insignifcant & spammed other users to try & gang up on me. I can provide you with links if you wish to confirm my claims (wouldn't want to have my "jibes" fall on your "deaf ears"). The only jibes I made towards the user was saying that her feelings were easily hurt & that she didn't get my intentions. I have not done anything liek this in regard to impersonation before, (although you say I have like you actually know me or something, which you don't). I feel angered that you come in halfway through a situation & assume you know what's been going on, whilst your apprentice has been doing most of the incivilty, such as spamming others, name calling, threatening, etc. I'd appreciate if you checked your facts before taking a side, or if you can't, then don't take one at all. Remember there are real people on the other side, and for you to just assume I'm wrong, then you are mistaken... Spawn Man 02:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, & I said it was a trivial argument to start with (along with admins), but your friend here continued it. Not me... Spawn Man 02:09, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did anyone take a licking? coelacan03:00, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I may suck, but I won't bite. Xiner (talk, email) 02:13, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ew... If I didn't get what you're trying to say, that phrase would sound preeetty gross lol. :) I just wanted you to know that I'm not the one who started it. It wasn't me who placed the original post on my talk page. I kept my cool throughout. You should cease checking the splinter in my eye, lest you miss the plank in Cremepuff's... Just casue I have a long history of arguments, doesn't mean I always start them all.... Spawn Man 02:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I appreciate your sense of humor. That's a good start. Look, I'd have had a higher opinion of you if you didn't, say, insist on referring Cremepuff as a girl. Name-calling, with all due respect, is childish. I'm sure you can understand that. Xiner (talk, email) 02:20, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought she is a girl? As in female? Sorry, if I'm mistaken, but I get these things mixed up usually - I thought Sango123 was a boy up until about 6 months ago lol. And that was with reading her user page lol.... I haven't name called, obviously the "girl" thing was a misunderstanding on my part. I dont think I recall reading Cremepuff was a boy anywhere lol... *Sheepish laughter*... Spawn Man 02:26, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if you wanted me to keep out of this, Xiner, I just can't help it.
Look here, first seven words, can't miss it. --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:31, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. I'm sorry if you thought I was name calling. Truly a mistake lol. Quite funny if you think about it, but not intentional. Hope this sorts a couple of issues out lol. :) Spawn Man 02:35, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think we've all said what we need to say. Let's call an end to this discussion, shall we? Xiner (talk, email) 02:40, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aye. --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:41, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeppo. I've already said that I have no hard feelings towards Cremepuff... All these extra people getting involved just prolonged the argument's proccess... Thanks, Spawn Man 02:43, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re your questions

[edit]

Hi Xiner! I often warn or notify users when I revert inappropriate edits but not always, for example in cases where some time has passed after the reverted edit. Many of the unhelpful edits on Wikipedia come from shared computers/IP addresses (in schools, for example) and a message left on such an IP's talk page hours after the reverted edit was made is somewhat likely to be received by someone else than the intended person. I discuss articles on talk pages when appropriate, but not as often as some others as I rarely get into content disputes. As for adminship, I think I need a couple of weeks to look into a few things before being comfortable with an RfA. Cheers, --KFP (talk | contribs) 09:28, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I was undoing an obviously errant edit on the help desk, and didn't know it might overwrite edits like the one you were obviously writing at the same moment. So sorry. I'd say this use of templates is a bit excessive though, as anyone familiar with my activities on the help desk knows. Xiner (talk, email) 03:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know. That's why I used a level 1 template, which indicates an assumption of good faith. However, I do apologize if I did offend you in any way.--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 03:25, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You could've just written a note to me that I erased your edit by mistake. Templates shouldn't be used on good-faith editors, even though they have the good-faith label. Xiner (talk, email) 03:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

{{templater}} ... It's just that a personal message is so much more personable, since long-standing editors know the rules already. coelacan03:31, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thanks for telling me about that; I didn't realized that I'm not supposed to post these warnings on the talk pages of experienced users.--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 03:44, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'm sure I've done it before, too. Sorry again for erasing your question by mistake. Xiner (talk, email) 03:46, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need too many apologies now! We're fine right now. ;) Anyway, thanks for helping me out with my question; it really helped. I'm going to add a little suggestion under your comment, expect it in a minute or two.--Ed ¿Cómo estás? 03:59, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you remove the template from this page, I don't think anyone will fault you. It was obviously in good faith. I was strongly considering removing it myself but I'll leave that for you to decide, Xiner. VegaDark 21:20, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, VegaDark. I think everything's resolved, though, and I don't feel like dredging things up again. The discussion that followed provides enough context, I hope. Xiner (talk, email) 21:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

It has been difficult with the user you mentioned on my talkpage. It appears to me, he has re-factored every message put on his talkpage. I have tried not to engage him because he seems to react inappropriately whenever a comment is placed on his page. I have not been active here in the past week due to the death of a close friend. I have checked in from time to time to see what is going on but my heart is not here. I have dealt with pain and death before but this one hits home as we are similar ages and have become family. I know I am probably telling you more than is necesary but you probably have wondered why I have lagged in responding to your action on my behalf.

Thanks again. Ronbo76 03:06, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for article updates on the help desk

[edit]

Hi. I thought you might want to know that some requests for updates in articles about organizations are now coming from IP addresses, and while some of them include email and phone numbers, it's been custom to delete such info, and I'm not sure how we should verify what's given to us, especially in cases where the subjects in question do not show up in web searches. What's your take on that? Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 03:09, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, didn't see this until today. IP addresses are okay, I think. Deleting phone numbers and emails is fine. By "the subjects", you mean you can't find references to the verify the people trying to correct the information are indeed with the company?
How many people have sent corrections, to your estimation? Have most been understanding and understandable, or furious and confusing? -- Zanimum 18:09, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, most are courteous in their requests. What I meant by "subject" is both the identity of the poster and the information they are requesting to be placed into articles. It's even more troublesome if neither their claim nor the article's is sourced.
I've seen less such posts recently than a few weeks ago. Xiner (talk, email) 18:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good to hear they're courteous, certainly not always the case on OTRS. That is a troubling point, I agree. I'll take it towards the Wikimedia Foundation Communications Committee, see what we can brainstorm. -- Zanimum 18:52, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalised edits on People's Republic of China

[edit]

Considering the perceived high level of support for the CPC displayed on the article in the form of many pro-CPC editors doing their upmost to help the CPC eradicate all history deemed unsavory by the CPC from all forms of media then it's not so hard to see why it can be difficult to maintain a neutral article with an imposed censorship by the large number of pro-CPC editors, hence the capitalisation of the edit to stress the importance of removing this imposed censorship of the article. A Medley of Comments

[edit]

I would love to become a developer, but my programming experience in mySQL and PHP, which are major languages that the Wiki software are written in, is quite low. I've started to learn perl, and I know some object-oriented language (visual basic, not that much of a help). If I learn PHP quickly, I might be able to become a developer.

But if I start becoming a contributer to the encyclopedia, I wouldn't have to become a developer. To me, finding an article that I am knowledgeable in is a difficult task, since all of the information about it seems to already be there. I started some articles pertaining to my school system, though, but those articles don't seem to contribute much. If you know any articles that I could help with please let me know.

Thanks for your comment on the MfA page. Don't think that you're a failure as a teacher, because without your help, I doubt that I would even be here right now.

I'm going to be off for a while, so see you tomorrow, maybe. Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:52, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ducking in

[edit]

Thanks for the great welcome back, Xiner! I guess I never really left. I've just been trying to fly low and not expend too much time or mental energy on frustrating situations. We'll see how it goes. Yesterday, I created a stub, edited a stub, edited a longer article for NPOV, posted a question to the help desk (for which I am still awaiting a satifactory answer), and answered one or two questions on the help desk. Not a bad effort at making a contribution while only getting a little annoyed.--Vbd (talk) 19:20, 8 March 2007 (UTC) p.s. Are you finally going for admin status? Yahoo![reply]

Category renaming

[edit]

No, I have not asked the persons involved because I was trying to get an understanding of the process first. I wasn't sure to what extent bots carried out the work versus admins or whoever. Today, it looks like all of the subcats have been migrated (I think by bot), but the old categories have yet to be deleted. I guess this is a multi-stage process with more human involvement than I had realized.--Vbd (talk) 20:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

How does one put more than one template on one page? Many of my subpages (about 15) are simply userboxes, and if I put them on one page, that would solve a lot of problems.

DRV

[edit]

Oy vey! Who told you that, Tony Sidaway? :) In my opinion, you have it exactly backwards. DRV is the best, and only really, place to correct process mistakes. That doesn't mean we throw the thing out if an "i" isn't dotted, but we do worry about fundamental fairness as we consider whether we need to discuss an article any longer. For my extended view, see my comments just below yours at DRV talk.

Despite my tinge of (good-natured) horror at your remark, I like you already. I'm a bigger believer in X-solidarity! :) Xoloz 00:44, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tony's motto is "fuck process"! He used Ignore All Rules in deletion contexts more often than anybody I know. He's not an admin any longer, in part, for this reason. There are still some long-time Wikipedians who follow less extreme versions of this ethic. These people are fond of calling folks like me "process wonks." I prefer to think of myself as a "fairness wonk" or a "due process wonk" -- not process for its own sake, but good process for the sake of ensuring that the encyclopedia is thorough and thoughtful. It's an old tension in community.

Anyway, having now talked with you for a bit, I'll head on over and support your RfA! Power to the X! Xoloz 01:42, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right -- opinions differ about whether any one thing is deletion-worthy all the time. When they do differ, and the dispute is serious (ie. not a clueless newbie begging) the proper course is always some sort of discussion, so the community can pass judgment. That's due process. If I think something is speedy deletable, but you don't, we send it to AfD. We do NOT "pull a Yanksox," as it were. This is good due process, and it keeps us from killing each other. In general, always defer to continued discussion, until most people are done discussing. Very simple, very fair, rule. The more people that collaborate, the more important process fairness is.

I don't support people unless I get a really good feeling about them. :) Most RfAs, I just abstain from. I guess people notice my opposes because my standards are high, and I'm often left alone down there. As far as I'm concerned, that's okay -- it's never anything personal. Somebody has to stand apart from the crowd, or we'll all get complacent! Best wishes, Xoloz 02:14, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blank Comments -- Oops!

[edit]

I'm just too quick with the keystrokes. I realized I hadn't added a comment as the page went winging off into cyberspace. Sorry. I'm a newbie to Wikipedia editing and page creation. I'm having fun. It is rather addictive. You probably can tell better than I how much time I've spent on Wiki editing since Friday. Yikes! I'm not exactly a stage show whiz kid, but I found a niche in which to practice my editing. I started with Julie Andrews and branched off in several directions, mainly awards, biographies and organizations.

I went to My Watchlist and have a question. Could you tell me what the letters mean in the column down the left side where m and N occasionally appear? I couldn't find a key or help window there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pnoble805 (talkcontribs) 11:19, 10 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

When an article is tagged with {{copyedit}}, it is immediately placed in Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit and Category:All articles needing copy edit. There is no condition or wait period for the article to be placed in the huge category. It's in both categories once the tag is set. Some further information... Once the tag is placed, often User:Smackbot modifies the tag by adding a date to it. Once that date is added, the article is moved from Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit to the appropriate subcategory (e.g. March 2007). The 'All articles category' will always contain the article.
In my opinion, that huge category is pretty useless. All the articles in that category exist in Category:Articles needing copy edit by month. I think I made that more confusing than it really is. Please let me know if you have questions. W3stfa11/Talk to me 04:23, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OH! Okay, so if you were viewing a diff of an older verson, then you clicked on the "permanent link" button the current version would automatically appear? Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 00:49, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That makes a lot more sense. You're a great teacher, ya know. Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 01:04, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you like my new signature? The coding is only 34 characters long! Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 01:43, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I dislike it, it's 10 lines long. Majorly (o rly?) 01:51, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's very odd. I have a piece of script in my monobook that contracts my signature into 34 characters, and whenever I do an "edit this page" my signature looks fine. Does the user that's looking at my signature have to have the script in his or her monobook too? Cremepuff222 (talk)

Good point. I need to start thinking things through. --Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 02:10, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

I had noticed that an anon had deleted one of three school mascots on the DEHTMS page. When I questioned his/her motives on User talk:69.172.85.123, they simply offered an extremely rude reply and told me not to bother them again. What should I do? Should I leave them a user warning for incivility, or should I just leave them alone? I am just a newbie and am not very familiar with Wikipedia rules, so it would be very helpful if you could tell me since you are a veteren editor. Also, perhaps you could give me advice if deleting the band mascot, found in the edit [[3]] is appropriate or not. Thank you so much, and have a nice day! Sue H. Emptying & deleting categories

[edit]

Hi Xiner. Time to earn your keep again as my "adopter." Based on an overcategorization guideline, I am slowly endevouring to empty and delete categories like Category:Nova Scotia actors. I have already received the blessing of at least one of these categories' creators. My question is this: is there an efficient way ( a bot?) to delete the cat. tags from all of the pages in a given category? Or do I have to go through them manually?--Vbd (talk) 22:09, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I was trying to empty some of the categories before going through the Cfd process. Is there a way to ask an admin to do this kind of thing without going through Cfd? I can do it by hand, but it will be tedious. Should I ask Samuel Wantman for help? I've been discussing the idea with him. Or should I ask at the Help Desk? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vbd (talkcontribs) 23:21, 11 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
I've been a little slow in thinking this through. In part, I was trying to mis-apply some advice I got from Wantman. I haven't had a chance to take this to Cfd, but I will.--Vbd (talk) 21:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, thanks for the advice about the edit summary message. I see your point. Technically, all templates, even Level 1's, are labelled as "warnings" on the Vandalism policy page. However, perhaps "notice" or something else would be gentler in the edit summary.--Vbd (talk) 21:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a template for user warnings about copyvio?

[edit]

First let me say that your user page is immensely useful as a directory of useful pages for active Wikipedians - well done for pulling all those resources together so concisely!

One thing I found from your page was WP:WARN. I notice that there is not yet a user talk space warning template for copyright violations. Is there a suitable place to recommend this? - Fayenatic london (talk) 21:06, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, thanks. Template:Nothanks-web is just what I was looking for. Fayenatic london (talk) 23:17, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fairuse images

[edit]

So we should alter our character template to make our display of our lead images smaller, to reduce blurriness? -Malkinann 22:04, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I mean in the template. On the page Usagi Tsukino, we've currently got the image displaying at a value of 220px - should we reduce this display size to reduce the blurriness? -Malkinann 22:37, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What's the maxiumum size of the image itself that would be acceptable under a claim of fair use, then? -Malkinann 22:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've shrunk the display size in the article to 180px to cut down on blurriness. Is that better in terms of Fair Use?-Malkinann 22:52, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll help you delete them all later today after I get back from class. :) Oh, and by the way, as for feedback, you might have wanted to allow the two people who wanted to split australian and british english off. There looked to be a consensus but requests like that are fairly rare and for a big nomination like that it would have been acceptable, but I still agree they should be deleted and there was a consensus to delete them, so you could have gone either way. Congrats on your adminship! Just a quick note — blocks based on WP:U should have the autoblock turned off and account creation enabled and the block reason should be {{username}} unless their edits show that it is not a good-faith account. Usually WP:U violations are not intentional, so we don't want to punish them, just stop them from using that username. Thanks, and congrats again! —bbatsell ¿? 17:59, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:0-level UCFD

[edit]

I'm not sure, I've never even used that page before. I have always manually cleared out categories, which is usually easy enough due to categories usually being populated by templates, so you can just change the 1 template and the majority of users will change their category. VegaDark 21:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, es-0 was a template. You should have seen it before I removed it. VegaDark 21:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the remaining people in the category will all have either a Subst'd userbox or just added the category to their page outright- If you think think is annoying you should have seen when I merged all the CVU categories. There were about 150 people who I had to manually remove out of categories. Luckily, I used WP:AWB, but it still took a long time. VegaDark 21:31, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got it...but we will have to wait for the job queue to remove it from the transcluded pages that used the template (i.e., the last page) VegaDark 21:38, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One other tip- When deleting a page deleted by UCFD, it is a good idea to say the date of it instead of linking to the discussion (or both). This is because the link will no longer work once it is archived. VegaDark 21:42, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sorry. I had to deal with some page move vandalism before I could reply. I'll help delete some more. VegaDark 23:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A question

[edit]

Yesterday you said that if you deleted my user page's history, my edit count would drop. So if one was doing new page patrol and posting deletion messages on pages that were eventually deleted, would his or her edit count not show those edits? Sorry if this message is confusing, it's kinda hard to word... --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 20:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Here's another question... :) On the edit counter thingy, there's something that says "number of unique pages". I'm fairly certain that I haven't created over 1000 pages though... --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 20:08, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, all right. That doesn't seem to make much sense to me though, as the "unique" part would imply that the pages were created by the user him/herself. Whatever, though. Thanks, Xiner. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 20:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Thanks! I'm going to use the image to make a template for recruiting people who edit without accounts (IP editors.) --Theunicyclegirl 20:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm basing my template on that. Only with a cool image. :D --Theunicyclegirl 20:38, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get the text to wrap around the image? The template is here. --Theunicyclegirl 20:52, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done with userpage

[edit]

Hello. I think that my userpage is "stable", so do you think that you could do one last copyedit aNd then do that nifty deletion thing? Please don't if you're in the middle of something though. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:48, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay. Do you think that you could also do it to my main user page? I created that other user page to revert vandalism easier, but most of my user edits are on my main page (User:Cremepuff222). Who's that IP that copyeditted my page? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 22:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Or should I get rid of that template and just place everything on my user page? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 22:05, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry that took so long, I had some border problems, but I fixed it. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 22:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it has. Thanks very much! (Sorry I took so long to respond, I had to eat...) --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 23:07, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Could you explain the deletion of this article? For one, it wasn't an A7 anyway - books aren't qualified. Secondly, the "importance" is most certainly asserted - the author alone makes it notable. Please undelete. Thanks! --badlydrawnjeff talk 00:30, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's at DRV. The salting seems entirely unnecessary, BTW, especially since the third deletion was entirely improper. --badlydrawnjeff talk 00:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Xiner. You closed this UCFD as a delete. I only came to know the fate of this category when you replaced it on my user page. I have to say that I strongly disagree with your decision, as: 1) the outcome was a clear lack of consensus; 2) I find it rather unorthodox that you, having participated in the discussion, later decided to close it according to your position "delete" (even though, and I find this quite odd, you said then that it was going to be kept). I intend to take this one to WP:DRV, but before I would appreciate if you could comment on my point of view regarding this situation. Thank you. Best regards, Húsönd 01:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for undeleting the category and relisting the discussion, I really appreciate your attitude. :-) I didn't know that WP:UCFD was so understaffed. Maybe I'll give you guys a hand every now and then. Best regards, Húsönd 02:07, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I just rolled back your changes to my user page and Wishkres', in order to restore our names on the undeleted category. Regards, Húsönd 02:25, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will. I really need to diversify my WP:XFD participation. Regards, Húsönd 02:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletions

[edit]

Can you please review the WP:CSD and make it clear whcih criteria you are applying when speedy deleting. You seem to use a generic does not assert the importance or significance of the subject as your reason. Please note that this is not a general ground for deletion outside of the explicit grounds of A7.--Docg 02:01, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

blocking

[edit]

Hi- I don't understand something - this IP vandal was reported earlier here: [4] It appears that this user was supposed to have been blocked (by you, I think), but there's no indication on the user's talk page. I'm not clear on how these bots work, so thought I should ask you directly. Doesn't a note go on the blocked user's talk page when a block is initiated? thanks Tvoz | talk 09:07, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, ok- that makes sense. Sorry for posting the request twice, in that case. Tvoz | talk 17:25, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But just thinking about this a little more - I'm not on the vandal patrol, but I do generally call people out on vandalism when I revert it, and I report it to AIV when appropriate, but I don't look into logs or history to see if they've been reported before, so wouldn't it be a good idea for a notice to be automatically put on the blocked person's page - maybe by the bot? - so AIV doesn't get multiple reports? Not a big deal in any case, just wondering. (POint being that sometimes you come across someone's vandalism that was done prior to their being reported by someone else.) Just thought I'd mention that. Cheers Tvoz | talk 18:04, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a big difference between criticizing someone by way of pointing out their inconsistencies and displayed behaviour, and attacking them outright; Hong always soft-pedals attacks on those whose view he opposes, so he can go the passive-aggressive route and complain about being attacked; in this case he's entirely disingenuous about complaints about "weasel words" and so on, but you'd have to be familiar with the discussion and the content/context to appreciate by how much. My criticisms of him are valid criticisms; if Wikipedia can't deal with that in any other way than going "oooh, no personal attacks" then I think the definition of personal attack is on the one hand a little too harsh, and on the other not stringent enough to catch passive-aggressive in the act.Skookum1 21:00, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Dr. Doug Powell into Food Safety Network

[edit]

I am sending you this message because you edited Dr. Doug Powell. I added a merge template to Dr. Doug Powell proposing that it be merged into Food Safety Network. It appears that the FSN is much more likely to be considered notable than its director. Some of the info about Dr. Powell is already in the FSN article; perhaps a bit more could be added, then delete the article on Dr. Powell. If you wish to comment, please go to Talk:Food Safety Network. Please do not delete the merge templates until there is adequate time to discuss, generally about four weeks unless there appears to be significant agreement earlier. For details about the merging process, see Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages. Thanks. Ward3001 23:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thanks for your efforts. My last comment on the noticeboard was basically a clarification that it was not about a content dispute, because Skookum's comment was focused on that instead of the personal attacks. Anyway, I won't reply anymore as long as he does not attack me again. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 23:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what I need to do, but incivil comments like this keeps coming from him. And that's only one example. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 01:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A lack of a sense of humour seems to be at fault here; the comment made was because Hong was asking for citations I'd already provided which he had explcitly chosen to ignore, or dismiss. Referring to a need for optical correction, esp. in light of the one entry on the page, was meant as a humorous jibe; but HQG's typical running-to-authority sensitivity about even the slightest remark (never mind the ones he makes at me, by insinuation rather than direct statement usually) is really tiresome, and the kid should learn to read "in good faith" and try to understand when someone is being dry/witty, as opposed to "hey, why are you so stupid?". I can't help it if Hong holds to a POV position despite comments from others other than myself that there are differing POVs; Hong wants to maintain there's only one. If eyeglasses would correct that I doubt it; as for what to do about oversensitive ears - "if thine eye offend thee, strike it out". Not strike your opponent....or expect someone else to do it for you, as here.....Skookum1 01:54, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think

[edit]

I'm thinking of creating a User account called User:Anti Vandalism User and I was just wondering what you think, it would do tasks such as reporting bad username, removing vandalism and other anti-vandalism edits. it would not be a bot, I would operate it manually without a script and I would just like to know what you think.Tellyaddict 19:00, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I would not participate in RfA's or deletion/discussion debates to avoid sockpuppet claims, I'd probably use the same password for each account, what do you think now? Tellyaddict 19:04, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please unblock or see if its blocked for the IP: 62.136.40.51. It will not let me create an account under that IP address as its been restricted. Could you please make it available. Cheers! Tellyaddict 19:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh no, I'd still regularly edit under this account but just use the other for fighting vandalism.Tellyaddict 19:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

for the block against 64.8.131.172, spared me the time to report to AIV. Time I am wasting right now... back to VP. —KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 19:12, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No harm done whatsoever, thanks again. —KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 19:32, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In need of advice...

[edit]

Hi. I was browsing through some recent changes, and I came across this. The user made the edits him/herself, so I am not sure if the content shouldn't be there. What should I do? --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 20:55, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You make everything so simple and obvious. Thanks. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 21:01, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blatantvandal template - not final?

[edit]

This is in connection with the vandalism on temperature, which has now stopped. I added blatant-vandal as I usually do in cases where an editor has more than once added what is just intended to annoy or shock, and when the vandalism was clearly continuing, moved to WP:AIV. I noticed that at [5] you added a uw-vandalism4. Now, what I'm not sure about is whether blatantvandal, a useful template, doesn't count as final, or whether there was some other circumstance which meant that you put a warning (e.g. the fact that it seemed to have stopped)? In such cases I want to be sure I am not reporting on WP:AIV unnecessarily, or causing delays to the protective blocking of active vandalism. Thanks for any insight you can provide.
