Hello Woodstop45, thanks for taking the time to review the submission for Credible. Could you please provide additional guidance on achieving neutral tone? Previous reviewers have used identical language in rejecting the submission ("This submission appears to read more like an advertisement ...").

The article has been extensively revised to address the points about neutral language raised by previous reviewers, and now refers to more than a dozen "independent, reliable, published sources" including The Washington Post, NBC Nightly News, Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Fortune, Tech Crunch, and Inc.

There are no opinions expressed in this article, and it is written in a tone that "neither sympathizes with nor disparages its subject."

Wikipedia editors are instructed that "a differentiation should be made between spam articles and legitimate articles about commercial entities."

Hi @162.245.21.61:, the reason why I declined your submission is because in some small parts of it, it seems to promote Credible. For instance; saying "Borrowers may turn to private lenders to refinance student loan debt in order to reduce the interest rate they are paying on their debt. In a March, 2015 report, analysts with Goldman Sachs Group estimated that $150 billion in government student loans could be refinanced at a lower rate by private lenders," seems to promote it. While the promotional aspects are pretty small, I think that some words need to be changed a bit to make the article more neutral. Another aspect (which is unrelated to the advertising part) is that some of the information needs to be put into different sections; for instance, "On Sept. 30, 2015, Credible announced that it had closed $10 million in Series A funding, bringing the total raised to date to $12.7 million," and "On Oct. 27, 2015, the Better Business Bureau determined that Credible met its accreditation standards, assigning the company an A+ rating. Dozens of consumers have reviewed the company’s services on the BBB’s website and Trustpilot.com," need to be added into a different section with more information included in the section itself. I have added an inline citation for the statement, "Borrowers may turn to private lenders to refinance student loan debt in order to reduce the interest rate they are paying on their debt." The Goldman Sachs estimate already had a citation. Neither statement promotes Credible -- they provide context about the nature of the business that the company is in, and the size of the market. Help

Hi Woodstop45, thank you for cleaning up my submission: Thomas Harte (Irish Republican). Im new to this and find the whole process challenging. My submission has been rejected twice due to issues with the "subject notability". Finding more information on a member of a revolutionary organization that was executed almost 100 years ago is difficult, I think I've gathered all available information on Mr. Harte. I tried to show how his involvement with the "S Plan" and how the newly enacted Offenses Against the State Act made his execution notable.

My question: would this short article have a better chance at getting posted if I included the several categories that apply: People Executed in Ireland by Firing Squad, Executed Irish People etc? Any suggestions you might offer are appreciated.

@Palisades1: Adding categories would help a bit, but the main issue is that there has to be a bit more references, and they have to be inline citations after the information which it is included in the reference. Yes hi I would like to know why you flagged the page for deletion. Jose Febles was a well known musician and integral band member of Hector Lavoe's band. If you notice, he is referenced a few times on Hector Lavoe's page. • Word-level diffs now work in longer paragraphs. [5]
• Interactive maps now have a frame by default. This is to make them look like other multimedia objects. This affects all Wikivoyages, the Catalan, Hebrew, Macedonian Wikipedias and Meta. [6]
• When you preview the MediaWiki:Captcha-ip-whitelist page it will show a validation output of the listed IP addresses instead of the list of addresses only. This can help you to identify if your whitelist rules will work or not. [7]

@Woodstop45: Hi Woodstop45, Greetings. Have removed certain lines without reference. As I mentioned there are not enough online references to show accuracy of certain parts, however, the citations and other publication details I have given has sufficient evidence for the notability and contribution made by Prof. R Nandakumar. He was conferred with the prestigious Senior Nehru Fellowship by Nehru Memorial Musuem & Library, New Delhi which is given only to scholars who have made significant contribution in their respective fields. I feel that Wiki should have the scope to include senior academicians who have many works published in print media, but have very little featured in online platforms. Prof. R Nandakumar's works have been repeated referred by Indian and International scholars to the likes of Christopher Pinney who received Padma Shri from Government of India.

I wanted to let you know that - per WP:OWNTALK - editors (even blocked ones) are allowed to remove posts on their talk pages with the exception of declined unblock requests. MarnetteD, if something is block evasion by some known sock, it would be a REALLY GOOD IDEA to mark that in edit summaries. What I see is a whole bunch of nonsensical unexplained reverts of edits that do not appear to be bad edits; I just left a note for Sro23 saying so. I think you are one of the ones who like WP:DENY a lot, but I've never seen the point of it, and look at what it leads to here. Woodstop45 is in fact guilty of edit warring and I could block them on the spot if I wanted to be a jerk about it. So y'all can claim to get upset because someone told you all to fuck off--but what started it all? The edit in Michael Brandon? What in here improved the project? If DENY is invoked just because one can, we're dealing with retaliation, not with improvement. Marnette, you know as well as I do that I've been dealing with this guy for a while, so I don't want to hear any nonsense about "enabling", but seriously, all of you need to consider that you are not helping the cause nor are you doing anything to deter our long-term fool from ceasing disruption. @Drmies and MarnetteD: The reason why I was reverting those edits was because the IP was a sock-puppet and in WP:EW it says that an exception to the 3RR rule is if the user is a sockpuppet of a blocked or banned user, and I knew that a user is allowed to remove warning templates, but I didn't know they were allowed to removed blocking templates, and I am sorry for doing that. I knew I should have said something about it being a sockpuppet in the edit summary and I know I didn't and I am sorry for that as well. Even though reverting edits don't help the cause at all, as they will just continue with another IP and start vandalising again, I still think that it still should be reverted anyway as if they just started vandalising and weren't a sockpuppet. I know I would be guilty for edit warring when I was reverting those edits, but in my mind was that the user was a sockpuppet and those edits were supposed to be reverted. • Woodstop, what I want to ask you is not so much whether what you did was right or wrong under this or that policy or guidelines. Rather, is it helpful to revert? What harm is done by not reverting? Was there any kind of racist or sexist message, was there any kind of damage in article space? If the answer to these questions is no (or none), then it may well be best to leave it alone. Leave it for the admins--worry about other things. You can revert a million times but you can't stop them from reverting; an admin can. Let them take care of it.

  As it happens this particular guy is kind of an idiot (personal attack, I know), but the thing is, rather than DENYing him, all that reverting just enables him more, gives him extra incentive. As an admin, I am less interested in editors being able to cite policy than them exercising sound judgment--that's all. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 17:53, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

This quarter the team will focus on improving Special:RecentChanges and create a ReviewStream, a new feed designed to improve the edit-review process. Both are part of the new Edit Review Improvements project.

Notifications [ More information · Help pages ]

Recent changes

• Documentation concerning Notifications types has been updated. That page is ready for translations. [36]
• For developers, how to create a new Notification type has been updated. [37]
• Tools owners will be notified when OAuth app changes state. [38]
• When you edit text and mention a new username they are notified if you add your signature. Before this only happened under certain conditions. [39]
• Users are notified if they are mentioned in a section where you add your own signature even if you edit more than one section. Before, users were not notified if you edited more than one section in one edit. [40]
• Sometimes when you mention another user they don't get a notification. Now you can get a notification when you successfully send out a mention to someone or be told if they did not get a notification. This is an opt-in option in your preferences. [41][42]
• On Notifications, the badge is colored if you have some notifications. If you see these notifications, the badge will turn grey on all wikis instead of just the local one. [43]

Problems

• For some users, cross-wiki notifications haven't been working properly. The count has been wrong when only cross-wiki notifications were present. The cross-wiki bundle has been showing only the names of wikis and not the actual notifications. It has been fixed. [44][45]
• When a title was created with some wikitext inside of it, Notifications were not linking that title when they were mentioned. This is now fixed. [46]
• Some Notifications messages were not supporting {{GENDER:}}. This is now fixed. [47]

Future changes

• On Special:Notifications, pages and counts related to disabled notification types will not be shown anymore. [48]

Flow [ More information · Help pages ]

Recent changes

• Flow is available as a Beta feature on Greek Wikipedia. [49]
• A satisfaction survey was conducted concerning Flow in September 2016. Results will be published in December 2016. [50]
• Wikitext interface for Flow is now using a monospaced font. [51]
• It is now possible to moderate a Flow topic that have been resolved without re-opening it. [52]
• It is now possible to watch and unwatch topics directly from the Notification panel. [53]

Problems

• It is not possible to enable or disable Flow as a Beta feature on wikis where that option is available. This is under investigation. [54]
• Some Flow messages were not supporting {{GENDER:}}. This is now fixed. [55]

Future changes

• Communities that have Flow enabled manually on user talk pages will be asked to move on to a Beta feature activation to simplify the process. [56]
• Notifications related to Flow will be grouped on your Notifications preferences. It will be easier to choose which Notifications you want to have from Flow. [57]

Edit Review Improvements [ More information ]

Recent changes

• Informations about Edit Review Improvements project have been published. That page is ready for translations. [58]
• ReviewStream feed product description is available. ReviewStream is a machine-readable feed that’s designed to be used by a variety of edit-review tools.

Future changes

• Some improvements will be done to Special:RecentChanges, by adding new filters based on ORES.
  • Some tests are done with users to refine the design of those filters. You can volunteer for such tests. [59]
  • Communities that already have ORES goodfaith and damaging filters enabled will be contacted to try that change as a Beta feature. [60]

• On that newsletter, some particular items are highlighted by an icon, to ease reading. The icon highlights items that may interest volunteer translators and the icon highlights items that are relevant for readers with technical knowledge.

Problems

• Some users got a warning about Wikipedia's security certificate last week. This was because of a problem GlobalSign had. This has now been fixed. Only a small number of users got the warning. [61]
• Editors couldn't edit semi-protected pages in the Wikipedia app for Android. This has now been fixed in the beta version. [62]

• There will be no new MediaWiki version this week. [63]

Future changes

• The Editing Department are working on a new wikitext editor. It will have tools that are in the visual editor but not in the wikitext editor today. You can read more about this. This is an early plan and things can change. The old wikitext editor will still exist.

Changes this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from October 25. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from October 26. It will be on all wikis from October 27 (calendar).
• The "Search" text in the search box will show the name of the project. For example, on Wikipedia it will say "Search Wikipedia". [65]
• About a dozen wikis now have numerical sorting in categories. If your wiki wants numerical sorting in categories you can ask for it. [66]
• Some wikis that want numerical sorting in categories can also ask to use UCA to sort categories. The biggest difference is that characters with diacritics will be sorted together. For example, for most languages Ä will be sorted with A instead of at the end of the alphabet. This is not true for languages that have Ä as a character in their alphabet. Wikis that already use UCA are listed on Meta. Languages that can use UCA are listed on MediaWiki.org. You can test it.

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup Greetings, all! We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time. The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring. Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges. WikiCup 2016 November newsletter: Final results

The final round of the 2016 WikiCup is over. Congratulations to the 2016 WikiCup top three finalists:

• First Place - Cas Liber (submissions)
• Second Place - MPJ-DK (submissions)

In addition to recognizing the achievements of the top finishers and everyone who worked hard to make it to the final round, we also want to recognize those participants who were most productive in each of the WikiCup scoring categories:

• Featured Article – Cas Liber (actually a three-way tie with themselves for two FAs in each of R2, R3, and R5).
• Good Article – MPJ-DK had 14 GAs promoted in R3.
• Featured List – Calvin999 (submissions) produced 2 FLs in R2
• Featured Pictures – Adam Cuerden restored 18 images to FP status in R4.
• Featured Portal – SSTflyer (submissions) produced the only FPO of the Cup in R2.
• Featured Topic – Cyclonebiskit (submissions) and Calvin were each responsible for one FT in R3 and R2, respectively.
• Good Topic – MPJ-DK created a GT with 9 GAs in R5.
• Did You Know – MPJ-DK put 53 DYKs on the main page in R4.
• In The News – Dharmadhyaksha (submissions) and Muboshgu (submissions), each with 5 ITN, both in R4.
• Good Article Review – MPJ-DK completed 61 GARs in R2.

Over the course of the 2016 WikiCup the following content was added to Wikipedia (only reporting on fixed value categories): 17 Featured Articles, 183 Good Articles, 8 Featured Lists, 87 Featured Pictures, 40 In The News, and 321 Good Article Reviews.
