Copyright, notability, autobiography

[edit]

This was a copy of http://www.authorsden.com/visit/author.asp?AuthorID=18168. Wikipedia cannot hold copyright material, not even in sandboxes or AfC submission pages, not even temporarily. I have deleted User:Whistleblowerdr/sandbox for the same reason. Please read Wikipedia:Copy-paste.

Please note that assertion of permission to use text is not enough; we have to be certain that the person giving a release has the authority to do so, and that the actual copyright holder understands and agrees to Wikipedia's license terms, which allow any reader to copy, modify and re-use material for any purpose including commercial. For those reasons, a formal copyright release, as described above, is required.

It is very seldom worth making a copyright release, because the promotional tone of a company or personal website is likely to be quite unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. Wikipedia is not a notice-board for pinning up copies of CVs or other promotional material.

Article subjects need to have WP:Notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is more detail at WP:Notability (people), and good advice on how to write an acceptable article at WP:Your first article.

If you are the subject of the article, or are related to or employed by him, please be aware that writing about yourself on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia:Autobiography. You should also read the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. JohnCD (talk) 17:51, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm ScottishFinnishRadish. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Lyons, Kansas have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did at Lyons, Kansas, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Whistleblowerdr, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. A tag has been placed on Draft:Donald Soeken (1), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
