About warnings and things

[edit]

Hiya,

As someone said on the helpdesk, all the standard 'warning' templates are in WP:WARN. For most of them, there are 4 levels of escallation. Normally, people get warned at level 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then perhaps blocked. But not necessarily.

For example, {{uw-vandal1}}, {{uw-vandal2}}, {{uw-vandal3}}, {{uw-vandal4}}

However, you don't HAVE to use standard templates. You can always write a personal note instead, and that's fine. Such as, "Hey, I just noticed you created a totally blank page called "Something"... was that a mistake, or do you plan to edit it later?"

Also, you don't have to go through the 4 stages, it depends on the severity and nature of their edits; if someone is a very obvious vandal, e.g. changing lots of articles about people from "X is an actor" to "X is a fish", then I wouldn't wait and go through 4 warnings; I might go 1,3,4 or something.

In the case of the edit you reverted, here, it's a "spamlink". But also, the user's username is the same as the website they were spamming. So I decided that there was little point putting the rather friendly invitation they'd get with {{uw-spam1}}, and instead I used {{uw-spam2}}.

Their user name is also a problem, being promotional, so I went to report that at WP:UAA, but I found it had already been reported by someone else [1]. Their account will be blocked soon.

Phew...that was a lot of text. Hope it helps; it's great that you asked when you weren't sure :-) 86.20.193.222 (talk) 14:11, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
