Congratulations, from STiki !

The Bronze STiki Barnstar of Merit
Congratulations, Theopolisme! You're receiving this barnstar of merit because you recently crossed the 5,000 classification threshold using STiki.

We thank you both for your contributions to Wikipedia at-large and your use of the tool.

We hope you continue your ascent up the leaderboard and stay in touch at the talk page. Thank you and keep up the good work! West.andrew.g (developer) and DBigXray 09:13, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

You are evil

You are evil! You did not give me chance to co-nominate this candidate :) --Tito Dutta 04:59, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Aw, shucks. Thanks, Tito! Always appreciate the kind words, Theopolisme TALK 11:43, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
I would second what Tito said without any doubts if asked after good 10 months or an year of continued editing. Theopolisme, I may be opposing your stand now but, don't forget to remember my name if you wish anyone to nominate or co-nominate you for your second RFA after few months :) TheSpecialUser TSU 09:41, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, TSU. I have no regrets about this RfA at all - I think I've learned quite a lot, had chances to practice various skills, was able to hear others views on the CVUA (which is resulting in a bit of a reform for the CVUA that I strongly think will make it better than it has ever been), and so much more. Again - thanks for the kind words... You may see me at your door sometime in the future! Theopolisme :) 11:07, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
thumbs up Great!! This page is now permanently watchlisted, so no need of TBs :) TheSpecialUser TSU 15:10, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Your RFA and my questions

Hi. I know all additional questions are by their very nature optional, but are you going to respond to my ones any time soon (11a and 11b)? Your RFA concludes tomorrow, and being the weekend I am likely to be rather busy. Having asked you to carry out the exercise, I would like to do the courteous thing and cast a vote. However, I don't want to do that until I have seen your reply to my questions. Thank you! Stephen! Coming... 11:35, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

I've posted my comments to your answers on your exercise page. Thanks for giving it a go! Stephen! Coming... 22:23, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your help, comments, etc - I enjoyed working through the exercises (and hearing your great feedback ) - hope to see you around the Wiki soon! Theopolisme :) 04:11, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi! We're dropping you this rather unexpected message on your talk page because you signed up (either quite a while ago or rather recently) to be a member of the Vandalism Studies project. Sadly, the project fell into semi-retirement a few years ago, but as part of a new plan to fix up the Counter-Vandalism Unit, we're bringing back the Vandalism Studies project, with a new study planned for Late 2012! But we need your help. Are you still interested in working with us on this project? Then please sign up today! (even if you signed up previously, you'll still need to sign up again - we're redoing our member list in order to not harass those who are no longer active on the Wiki - sorry!) If you have any questions, please leave them on this page. Thanks, and we can't wait to bring the project back to life! -Theopolisme (talk) & Dan653 (talk), Coordinators 13:51, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Your RFA

Hi Theo, I'm sorry to say that I've closed your RFA as unsuccessful, as there was no prevailing consensus to grant you administratorship. I hope the experience and feedback from participants was at least useful. Remember that there is always Wikipedia:Editor review if you want to hear other editors' perspectives of you without running for RFA. Best, WilliamH (talk) 13:10, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey Theo. Sorry about that—I promise it was nothing personal. I think you have a lot of potential. It might take a while, perhaps longer than you were planning on, but I think you could make a good admin one day. If you need anything, or if you have questions, feel free to stop by my talk page. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:53, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Hi Theo, please ignore user: HJ Mitchell. This user has a rapidly growing history of attempting to "tank" new users' RFAs. Once finished "tanking" the users' RFAs he goes to their userpage and pretends to feel "remorse". You have done the right thing by not responding to his comment here, actually I haven't seen any member reply to his "apology". Good luck to you, and I look forward to your future swing at RFA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Little Hobbits n (talkcontribs) 05:37, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

That comment is based on the false premise that a single person's opinion can decide an RfA. I'm not nearly arrogant enough to assume that my opinion is so important, and my post above was merely an olive branch. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 09:09, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Taner Ceylan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page German (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Added tags to the page

Hello Theopolisme,

I know have to start the page with something else than a list, but I have a list of 12,000 canadian historic sites for Wiki Loves Monuments Canada. I usually don't work on WP-en, but WP-fr, now we are 3 persons who are working on this raw data. One of my collegue from WP-en will take care fo this, there's no need to send me messages and tag couple minutes after its creation. We are a team who work on this, and they'll take care of this! Thanks for your help though. Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 00:32, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Theopolisme, please check the notability criteria before nominating more articles for speedy deletion: Wikipedia:ATHLETE#Generally_acceptable_standards. I'm talking about the Croatian sailors. Marenic and Fantela finished sixth in London. Thanks. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 13:17, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks for doing CSDs Theo! I did strugle with CSDs in the start. I somewhat agree with Vejvančický above but not completely. Importance and Notability look same but in fact they are not. A7 means that the subject has no importance. While some subjects are not notable. I mean to say that there could be articles that are important enough to survive A7 but not notable enough to pass a PROD or AFD. Just for example, if there is a person who does a side-role in a TV serial but has only appeared 5 or 6 times. This gives us a hint that the person has done something important but it is not enough notable to have an article. This is the reason why we have CSDs which doesn't require much input from the community and pages get deleted easily. If you find something which shows that the subject has done some little important work then do not go for CSDs but AFD. Over here, the person finished sixth in London which gives an idea of minor notability which is enough for the article to survive. And one more thing while tagging for CSDs if you've got doubt about importance, keep google search open (bing, yahoo are the alternatives) in other tab and do search for the topic. It won't take time. Just go and check that is there any mention in news or books or in main (in reliable sources). If nothing exists then clearly a CSD. As stated above, even before an AFD, better to check N guidance. Cheers! TheSpecialUser TSU 13:29, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
All Olympic competitors are notable, TSU. The articles were referenced from the very beginning and nominator should have checked our criteria before nominating. He can contact the creator, ask, explain or help, but all I can see is a row of monotonous automated messages. But we all make mistakes. I just want to say that I miss constructive, communicative and creative attitude in those edits/nominations ... and the attitude is more important than all the abbreviations and rules (at least in my opinion). --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 13:56, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

First, could you tell all CVUA instructors to make sure they have the enroll, status page, and main talk page watchlisted. We never told some of the first instructors to do so.

Second, could you tell all the CVU/VS people to read as many or as few of these as they would like. Also, welcome them all to VS. Lastly, let them know that we would like to finish the Obama study if possible and start study 3 by November. If they have any questions tell them to post them on the main VS talk page. AFC Backlog

Articles for Creation urgently needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1811 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at User:Timotheus Canens/afchelper4.js which helps in reviewing in just few edits easily!

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial.
On behalf of the Articles for Creation project,
TheSpecialUser TSU

FYI the assignment was to pretty much just pick a public figure in sports or charity work in the City of CLE that doesn't have a bio on Wikipedia, and create a reliable summary of his/her accomplishments. If the information was to be included in the Wikipedia, then the assignment becomes 100%

Thank You for helping me with this. I feel very proud to have been able to do this. Please keep an eye on future posts, I'd like to continue contributing.

Re Jay Merrick's submitted entry on Lynch Architects

Thanks for digging out an explanation from the editor of the Lynch Architects article concerning the sourcing of references. It's a great help. Jay Merrick re Lynch Architects text

Just one more question (I hope). I'm now revising the reference links, as required by the editor. Once I've completed that, do I have to resubmit the article back at first base, or is there a way to get it straight back to the editor who originally assessed it? Here's his original message, which you passed to me yesterday:

Hi, Jay! Welcome to the Teahouse! The reviewer of your article submission, David FLXD, left a note: "There are far too many of the sources originating from the subject of the article, and far too few independent sources. The one statement that would clearly have verified notability has a reference which does nothing to support it." In a nutshell, he's recommending that you add more independent sources to the article, and then resubmit it. Does this help? Theopolisme :) 11:27, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Jay Jay Merrick (talk) 08:29, 24 August 2012 (UTC)'

Sadly, you'll need to resubmit the article "back to first base"... annoying, I know - and I'm sorry about it! However, if you resubmit the article and then send me a link to it, though, I'll review it as quickly as I can. ;) Theopolisme :) 11:30, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks very much, Theopolisme. I'll send you the link when I've submitted.

Vandalism Studies Update - August 2012

Hello, members of the Vandalism Studies Project! As some of us are quite new with the Vandalism Studies project, it would make sense for us to re-read some of the past studies, as well as studies outside the project. Please do so if you have a chance, just so we can get into the groove of things. We're planning on attempting to salvage the Obama study (or possibly simply convert it to a new Romney study), as well as hopefully begin our third study this November. If you have any ideas for Study 3, please suggest them! If you have any questions please post them on the project talk page. Thanks, and happy editing - we can't wait to begin working on the project! --Dan653 (talk) and Theopolisme :)

Ahmad Lankarani csd declined again

Hello. Dig this: CSD'd-> csd declined fro clear significance -> bio PROD -> sourced, dePRODed. Not eligible for CSD. Clearly shows significance. WP:CSD#A7. Have a nice day. Dlohcierekim 03:12, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

What about the article's content, though, asserts notability? Purely reading it does not assert notability to me - care to elaborate? All the article says to me is "this guy is an orthopedic surgeon who studied somewhere"... I may be missing something here - as I can't read Persian... but.. huh? Theopolisme :) 03:19, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Didn't say it asserted notability. Said it "asserted significance, a lower standard than notability". Yeah. Me too. Anyway, please do reread WP:CSD#A7. Also, as a very highly respected admin named Phil declined the CSD and then applied a bioPROD, it cannot be retagged for CSD. As the PROD was removed, last option is WP:AFD. Yours, Dlohcierekim 03:28, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Whoops, sorry. Good point. I have AfD'd it - and have CSD#A7 open. Again, thanks! Theopolisme :) 03:30, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Italicizing

Thanks for your work italicizing species names. Some of the articles you are italicizing are titled under the organism's common name, not species name. In those cases, we do not italicize the name. An example is Sea peach. Articles requiring italics will be in the Latin language. Thanks again! Jokestress (talk) 04:59, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Agh, so sorry - I knew that... :P Theopolisme :) 05:02, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Concerning Italics

Hi there! I just want to let you know, in Taxonomy, only the ranks of species and genus are italicized. It is unnecessary to apply the italic name template to pages of taxa higher than genus.--Mr Fink (talk) 07:04, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Also, pages about organs/appendages/life stages aren't species names, either, and do not require italicization, either.--Mr Fink (talk) 07:05, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
