Tom Joule
[edit]Hi TheLongTone, I have reverted the redirect on Tom Joule, and stuck up a notability warning instead to trigger some discussion. I might be wrong on this one, but given he founded a retailer that many people in the UK will know, I think he qualifies. Discussion to be had though! Jesse Waugh AfD
[edit]Hi, I’m writing to ask if you might be willing to contribute a vote on the Articles for Deletion page for Jesse Waugh. The vote already took place based on the article’s current sources, but certain people seem to be determined to get it deleted. Thanks either way. 81.44.32.50 (talk) 07:16, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- ...Hmmm. My feeling is that he probably is not notable, but I don't think this strongly enough to vote for deletion. When all is said and done I think that this character deserves an aarticle far more than most kick-the-ball players, who seem to be almost ipso facto notable if they have appeared for a club that anybody has heard of.TheLongTone (talk) 14:54, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Redirecting Notability
[edit]Hello, a suggestion that in the future use a Notability template on articles that you believe aren't notable instead of redirecting them. This gives a chance for people to build on them, and others to review especially if they're trying to build up articles over a few edits. Being polite in your edit comments helps too. Collegify Article Deletion
[edit]Hello TheLongTone and thank you for your message. I'd like to know what can be done to restore the deleted page I had created for Collegify. It is one of the popular education consultancies in Kolkata and I have also provided several mainstream media publication citations in support of the article. There are other articles of education consultancies with lesser credible citations than I have provided but they have been accepted without any issues. Please help me understand what I could do in order to create it in a manner that it is accepted on Wikipedia. I will be very grateful for your help. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to your assistance.
Nishael (talk) 17:37, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- It helps if the article contains a good reason why the company is notable rather than being just another company. I'm afraid I can't remember what the citations in the article were like, but I do try not to be trigger happy when tagging articles for deletion, and in this case obviously the reviewing admin agreed with me.TheLongTone (talk) 12:51, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

[edit]I am working on a version of this in my sandbox so good edits like your last two are a minor nuisance - I have to incorporate them into my sandbox text which could be trickier than it sounds as I have already redone the structure of the references for the first half of "my" article. Thanks again anyway - and I should be unleashing the beast later today. WWIReferences (talk) 05:03, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I'm not sure that this is really the best editing technique. I see that you are fairly new here on Wikipedia; you will find that articles get randomly edited all the time, & if these present a problem...
- New as I am - I think it is by far the best way of making substantial edits like this lot. Anyway, it worked well enough in this case, and saved me making multiple edits and leaving doubtful "intermediate" versions of the article that might have been unhelpful to the poor old reader. Your edits were sensible so I incorporated them - no "problem" really. If they had been otherwise I would have just ignored them and they would have disappeared when my sandbox version "landed". All the same - now I have more or less done what I wanted I have transferred everything to the article itself. Hope it is deemed at least as good as it was. WWIReferences (talk) 14:00, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
- Whatever works for you, I guess. Myself, if doing a substantial makeover of an article I try to do it on a para by para basis.TheLongTone (talk) 11:17, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Citybus Route 962 AfD
[edit]Hi TheLongTone,
It seems you haven't replied on my talk page for over a week, and the page has already been deleted, but I still wanted to clarify, so apologies for posting here, as it seems my talk page isn't on your watchlist.
- I just wanted to ask why is it just this page that is being deleted, and not any other HK bus route pages? Pages like this and this seem to be extremely similar, yet those pages have been up for more than one and a half years (Since 12 September 2016), but this is being raised for deletion a mere 2 hours after that page was created. I checked the editing history of those two pages, and it seems that other users have edited on both of them, removing the operating hours, fare, and route sections. So if I removed the route section on that page, would the page have been good enough to avoid deletion? If deleting the route section was going to keep the page up, I would have been more than happy to do so, but a more logical reasoning for deletion is required, as there are clearly other pages which are doing the same and aren't being raised for deletion. Thanks. Jeffrey0219 (talk) 04:43, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oh, I'm sorry not to have replied earlier, I imagine your talk page is not on my watchlist so I was not aware of your post. In brief, your page got nominated for deletion so quickly because I am a new pages patroller & so came across it. The reason the other articles you mentioned exist is that nobody has thought to nominate them for deletion to date. Their existence is not an argument for your article to be kept: see WP:OTHERSTUFF.TheLongTone (talk) 12:35, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- I just came here to add but someone just beat me to. Can you list all the remaining routes on the template (list of Hong Kong Buses) at AfD. I just voted on one elsewhere. Just like the stamps issue. Thanks Quek157 (talk) 15:11, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Jeffrey0219:, do see the reasons we gave on Afd, I will suggest if to prevent such reoccurances, you should submit your article at WP:AFC where help will be given. --Quek157 (talk) 15:31, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Digi Osmosis (digital agency)
[edit]Hi TheLongTone,
I understand your concern however I think it's imperative to highlight the initiatives and challenging campaigns undertaken by Digi Osmosis. Digi Osmosis is a fairly new agency managing renowned clientele (i.e. Indian Premier League & Indian Super League Teams, Bollywood movies, niche lifestyle clients, etc...) with 100% success rate. Hence, it's essential to spread online awareness.
Wikipedia as a platform plays a very important role for the users. Credibility and visibility both are important.
I hope you would consider this and guide me to get this published and remove the tag from deletion process. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrugeshsingh (talk • contribs) 11:29, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Repeated addition of apparently outdated/false information
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you added again the information that Pedro Perebal is a security guard despite I previously reverting said edit explaining that he is not a security guard. I don't know why did you add that information again. Do you have up to date sources that says that he is currently a security guard? I never claimed that he is a security guard. I said that he learned languages being a security guard, which is different. As far as I know he is currently not a security guard but a tourist attention official at the airport.[1] User:TheLongTone|TheLongTone]] (talk) 12:50, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

Per WP:WAR, an edit war... occurs when editors who disagree about the content of a page repeatedly override each other's contributions. Thinker78 (talk) 19:03, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Hello TheLongTone. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Hurricane (group), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: WP:BAND#6. Thank you. SoWhy 15:57, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Please clarify. There is nothing about any tour in the article. Which I am listing at AfD.TheLongTone (talk) 11:39, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
- Nr. 6 of the notability criteria for musical groups (WP:BAND) says:Is an ensemble that contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles. As such, if at least one member - here Sanja Vučić - is notable, the group is significant enough to fail A7. And if the group is not notable, WP:ATD emphasises redirecting/merging to the notable member's article instead of deletion. The full text I wrote seems to have been swallowed by my browser, so sorry if it was unclear. Regards SoWhy 11:50, 10 July 2018 (UTC)
- oh, sorry to bother you, I simply assumed that the #6 would be the sixth entyry in the table of contents. I'm not sure that the notable members were linked when I sppedied this, because I generally favour redirecting over deletion. TheLongTone (talk) 11:55, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

Redirecting Soulcalibur articles
[edit]Hi TheLongTone. I am aware that you think articles like Siegfried Schtauffen and Taki (Soulcalibur) are "fancruft" and don't belong in the encyclopedia. For the sake of avoiding edit wars and reducing animosity, however, do you think you could start AfDs for the articles if they get reposted instead of boldly redirecting them again? I would suggest both you and Snake stop accusing each other of vandalism, as that's clearly not what's happening here. If the characters themselves are notable, then ideally per WP:PRESERVE we should try to fix the problems rather than destroy them. If the characters are not notable, then that is something that can be determined more definitively at AfD. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 18:11, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Sure thing; I was under the impression that the Siegfried article had been AfD'd (an edit summary0. I'll revist the territory.TheLongTone (talk) 12:08, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
I'll make it official
[edit]As I said elsewhere,
I don't care about any of your supposed girlfriend problems. Still thinking of taking it to ANI since you refused to go away and began stalking me and and my work here, extremely disrespectful as ever. Also you just lied again (the attack came out of nowhere before I ever learned about the erasure of my work in progress while I've been busy researching for more). And the fact you too accused me of vandalism, even first, and for merely reverting your destruction of my work-in-progress ([1] - yes, I checked, you was the first to talk about "vandalism"). Hope you don't need an "English translation" of any of that. But you can still apologize and leave me in peace. I'm giving you that's one last chance.
You make your apology here: [2] and here: [3] You apologize for making unprovoked personal attacks on editors, uncivil behavior in general, disruptive conduct, and making false statements, and then make a plea to change for a better (I won't even follow you to see if you did, because I don't have time for that, and let's say I'd believe and forgive you). [edit]Hi, I have a silly question. What does "ce" stand for when people put that in their edit summaries? Thanks. El principita (talk) 15:57, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
- Not silly at all. It stands for copyedit, ie an edit which basically cleans up the wording of an article. It's surprising how often one can substantially shorten something without actually removing any information whatsoever.TheLongTone (talk) 13:55, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the quick review, and I'll add sources soon. Liked your user page, and I wanted to urge you to edit or create visual art pages (you could keep away from the Koons' and the others, who have at least found a place in the monetary world of art), especially in areas you've discovered lacking in articles. I've added the wonderful Rousseau image to the Rousseau page. Have never seen that painting before and it's an interesting historical work which, if you find you've changed your mind about editing visual arts pages, is just the type of new article that could use your writing and editing skill. Thanks again for your work here. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:17, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
Rita Rohlfing
[edit]Dear TheLongTone, the quote you changed in the Rita Rohlfing article is taken from a book which is both in German and English, now the reference is not right anymore as it is a quote. This is valid for both quotes, means: i didn't translate it but took it from a book as a quote. Could you please change it back or tell me, how i would have to change the reference then? It is in the book and it is a quote in English... Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 14:59, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- OK. I've reverted my rather bad tempered edits. But in my opinion it is all complete nonsense; in my opinion almost no art crtics have anything of ant value to say. The merely deploy words like 'liminal' and 'paradigm' in the hope that this will intimidate people into thinking that they have some worthwhile insight.TheLongTone (talk) 15:04, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- I couldn't agree more!!! Art critics are the worst! I understood that in order to get a good ranking here on wikipedia people do need these kind of quotes (the guidelines states this) and i took quotes which one at least can understand, at least i found them okay. I have a file in my computer named "Schmarrn", which means "Nonsense", where all these texts if they are really bad, go :-). Kind regards, --Gyanda (talk) 15:08, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Sammartinlai (talk) 10:10, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I can't, since I don't know how to. But note that you have only PROD'ed this article, rather than listing it at AfD. I would also add that I cannot quite see the rationale behind your nomination; the article creator has certainly made a slew of (to my mind) pointless articles on military structures, but this actually seems one of the less egregious.TheLongTone (talk) 12:42, 19 October 2018 (UTC)
From Hell (album)
[edit]Hello, why was my From Hell (album) article deleted/replaced by a redirect to From Hell (EP)? Which is a completely unrelated article that is also much shorter and with zero citations.
You said it didn't pass notability but it's actually important for the JK Flesh discography and I added links to it in the corresponding template and related articles.PalmTreeEden (talk) 15:19, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- Because the article makes no credible claim of notability and is unreferenced to boot. If you think it is important, make the snecking effort to say why. I've restored the redirect & will take this to AfD if you revert without making a good case for notability. With references.TheLongTone (talk) 15:24, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- I added a few references to the article. It's important as it covers Broadrick's earliest electronic work (in '97-'99) which in turn inspired his following/current projects like Curse of the Golden Vampire and particularly JK Flesh.PalmTreeEden (talk) 15:50, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Murder of Amanda Duffy
[edit]Hi, I've expanded the Murder of Amanda Duffy page and reversed your good faith edit to change "scrap" to "overturn". I think you're misunderstanding the campaign and why the case is notable. The parents were not campaigning for the verdict in this one particular case to be overturned (which is not possible anyway, as you can't "overturn" an acquittal): they were campaigning for "not proven", Scotland's third verdict in criminal trials, to be abolished in Scots law through legislative reform. I've reworded this part of the article and also expanded further on the wider impact of the trial. Hope this brings you some clarity. — Zcbeaton (talk) 14:37, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- Seen, I've witdrawn the nomination. It would have been a good idea to have made the claim for notability when you put the article up; it read like just another murder, with nothing to make it notable and there is a cadre of editors who seem to be under the impression that any murder is notable if it gets even trivial subsequent press coverage.TheLongTone (talk) 14:44, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
- No worries, that's my mistake! I had been working on the not proven page immediately prior, so wasn't thinking about the lack of context on the new page. Thanks! — Zcbeaton (talk) 14:47, 29 October 2018 (UTC)
Regional at Best (album)
[edit]Hi, I worked rlly hard on adding the article for the missing twenty one pilots 2nd self-released studio album ‘Regional at Best’. But then according to this https://en.m.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/866296190 you deleted it.
I know I’m not a very experienced Wikipedia editor so this is an honest question: what did I do wrong? I followed the template and added citations. I’m seriously confused.... Librariegrrl (talk) 04:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- Well, I didn't delete it, I changed it to a redirect. This means that a link to the album title would lead not to the article but to the redirect target, in this case the article on the band. I did this because the album did not seem to be notable enough too warrant a standalone article; see WP:MUSIC for guielines. I know that creating a new article isd tempting but very often it is better to improve an existing article. And incidentally your work is not lost, since Wikipedia stores all historical versions of a page. If you click on the 'view history' tab for the redirect & then on the date for your version, you will get your page, so you can cut & paste anything from it that is not in the existing article.TheLongTone (talk) 15:36, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Unable to Complete Article Nominations
[edit]Unable to complete AfD for the following: "U Mad", "The Glory", "Drunk and Hot Girls", "RoboCop (song)", "Say You Will"
The rest can be merged into main articles for respective albums: "Coldest Winter", "The Bounce", "Down and Out", "Nobody, "Spaceship (Kanye West song)", "Two Words"
Others such "Never Let Me Down" are currently up for deletion or awaiting deletion/redirects. Many of these articles, such as "Drunk and Hot Girls", were redirected but user involved has removed redirects time and again with the proposition that any such article should be put up for AfD. Potentially a COI in place.
Apologies for any and all past incomplete or malformed AfDs. For background info, refer to comments made on User talk page

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. |
Hello TheLongTone,
- Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
- Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
- If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
- We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
- With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
[edit]Hello, TheLongTone. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018
[edit]Hello TheLongTone,
- Reviewer of the Year
This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.
- Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.
See also the list of top 100 reviewers.
- Less good news, and an appeal for some help
The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.
- Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019
At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.
- Training video
Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

[edit]Dear TheLongTone,
I was wondering if you had any insight on how to improve my article so that it meets your requirements. I just saw that you readied it for speedy deletion and responded with my contest for deletion. If possible please inform me of what of what to add to make it deserving to be in the encyclopedia. I thought I did okay using similar articles from other companies as a model for this but must have missed something I guess. Also, if it does, in fact, get deleted by someone is there a way I can edit it instead of having to start all over... It took me a bit of time to figure out the references.

NPR Newsletter No.18
[edit]Hello TheLongTone,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:
- Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
- Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
- Reliable Sources for NPP
Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.
- Backlog drive coming soon
Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.
- News
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- Discussions of interest
- A request for bot approval for a bot to patrol two kinds of redirects
- There has been a lot discussion about Notability of Academics
- What, if anything, would a SNG for Softball look like

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019
[edit]Hello TheLongTone,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.
- QUALITY of REVIEWING
Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.
- Backlog
The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.
- Move to draft
NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.
- Notifying users
Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.
- PERM
Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.
- Other news
School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.
Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

[edit]Hi TheLongTone, I see you are engaging with User:GeneralGrievousHero4Life. Their edits have been consistently poor, and at this point are highly disruptive. Their additions are unsourced and are attempting to add a falsehood to the General Grevious article. New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019
[edit]Hello TheLongTone,
- Backlog
Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
- Coordinator
A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.
- This month's refresher course
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
- Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
- Paid editing
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
- Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
- Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
- Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
- Tools
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.
DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Article(Dissolve Inc.) nominated for deletion appeal
[edit]Hi TheLongTone, I'm the author of this article. I'm also pretty new to all of this so sorry if I broke any rules. Not sure if this is the correct way to reply to the nomination for deletion discussion.
I created this separate article, This is a Generic Brand video. It's not so much an advertisement, as it is an indictment of cliches used by advertisers. It's an indirect commentary on formulaic pandering. The video was the first of a trilogy, which went on to mock generic presidential campaign ads as well as stereotypical ads targeting millennials.
It's actually quite brilliant making fun of ads in an ad. It's a double entendre! I discovered these in one of my lectures and felt like these videos deserved to be documented. It's like these troupes describe the socially accepted values during this select moment in time.
Anyway so this article is about the company behind these clever videos. Cool brand. Other company's have wiki articles, shouldn't this be acceptable?

Edge Of Existence redirection
[edit]Please do not redirect the album page for Edge Of Existence to the band’s page. The new album just came out today and the page will be updated with album reviews and critical reception in the coming days. It is not enough to just redirect it to the band’s page when a plethora of additional information is forthcoming. Thank you.

Speedy Deletion Comment
[edit]Hi! You left a note saying that a new page "didn't indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia."
Can you help me understand what those guidelines are? how can one indicate that?
Thank you!

Devil Between My Toes
[edit]Hi LongTone, as a contributor to the Dutch Wikipedia I am working on improving articles involving the rockband Guided by Voices. In 2017 you turned the article about the album Devil Between My Toes into a redirect, stating in the edit summary that it's an nn recording. This was some time ago, but could you elaborate on your decision? I'm curious since I will be rewriting the article on wpnl. Maartenschrijft (talk) 21:33, 14 December 2019 (UTC)
- Because firstly the article had no significant content other than a track listing, so failing WP:DULLASDITCHWATER. Secondly, the references lft all mustard completely uncut. I'd look at the criteria for notability for recordings. If you can write a better article with better refs, more power to your elbow.TheLongTone (talk) 14:02, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
I've completed the nomination for this article, and speculated as to the reason for deletion. When you get a chance, please head over to the debate page (linked above) and add your input. Thanks! UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 13:36, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter December 2019
[edit]- Reviewer of the Year
This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.
Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.
Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.
Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

- Redirect autopatrol
A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.
- Source Guide Discussion
Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.
- This month's refresher course
While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Tagging of Alaska Department of Revenue – Tax Division
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Alaska Department of Revenue – Tax Division. I do not think that Alaska Department of Revenue – Tax Division fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because There is very little content here, but not quite none. I request that you consider not re-tagging Alaska Department of Revenue – Tax Division for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page.
