Sergei Varshavsky article

[edit]

This is my response to Chris Troutman regarding the comment:

@Svarshavsky: The latest comments are the ones you should be most concerned about. Too many of your sources are from the subject himself, therefore not independent. Please read WP:RS and WP:42. On another point, I recommend removing all Russian words from the text of the article as it's both unnecessary and confusing. The sources can remain in Russian but I'm not so certain we need Cyrillic translations of so much Latin text. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:59, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Chris, Sorry, I did not find a better way how to respond to your comment. All reviewers say that "Too many of your sources are from the subject himself, therefore not independent." The problem is that a substantial part of my article is about a writer Sergei Varshavsky, who died in 1980. Writers write themselves, hence most of references direct to what they write. In my particular case, all writings of Sergei Varshavsky were published by publishers, and not by the writer himself, so I believe they are independent. Like if one writes an article about Leo Tolstoy, there will be a reference on Anna Karenina, right? Same here. In my article I also cited publications about Sergei Varshavsky books. When we move to collecting section of my article, all references are not from the subject himself. As a result, I am not sure what I can do to improve references. Sergei Varshavsky wrote 4 books about the one of the five greatest art collections in the world, and I believe he deserves an article in Wikipedia. The topic of protecting and preserving the art during wars (and especially, WW2) is very important. Tons of books have been written about that, but Sergei Varshavsky's "The Ordeal of the Hermitage" is the only credible source. Look at Harrison_Salisbury who cited the Varshavsky book literally. If we speak about Cyrillic translation, I have to mention that they are originals, and the English is a translation. Thus, if somebody wants to find the source, he/she will need the original Russian title. Otherwise the reference makes little sense. But if you insist, I can remove the original titles. Please let me know if this helps. Best regards, Sergei

Georges Kugelmann moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Georges Kugelmann, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 01:44, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Lord. I will add the sources right now and resubmit. Cheers, Sergei
