Welcome

[edit]

Hey there, Samluke777. Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you enjoy being a Wikipedian and decide to stay! Here are a few good links for newcomers (or "oldcomers" for reference):

By the way, you should sign and date your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. Three tildes (~~~) produces just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Great, just what we need around this place... more 777 people. :) Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 20:44, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fellow Salopian!

[edit]

Hello there fellow Salopian! Thank you for creating various articles about local stuff. Can I ask that you add in future the Shropshire category thing at the bottom of each page you create (well, the ones that are about Shropshire)? To do so, put Category:Shropshire in between the internal link boxes (aka a wikilink) at the bottom of the page's editing text. It just helps pool all the hundreds of articles about Shropshire together!

Keep up the good work! David 17:01, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Battlefield

[edit]

I usually reply in the other person's talk page as that way they will get a message saying that they have a new message (if you get what I mean). I don't think there is a rule.

See the Battlefield, Shropshire page and link in the Battlefield Enterprise Park article in from there. Try to create two individual articles for the village and the enterprise park.

You will find that Shropshire already has a huge number of articles - have a browse around the Shropshire categories (there are many more, branching off from the main category).

Non-free and unsourced images

[edit]

Hi there. I've just looked through the images that you've uploaded, and many of them seem to have been uploaded under a mistaken understanding of the Wikipedia:Image use policy. Please, review that policy. Also, keep in mind that FreeFoto is a minefield for Wikipedia. The images there are not public domain, they are released under a non-commercial use only license, which Wikipedia cannot take advantage of because down-stream users of Wikipedia images are commercial.

Thank you for contributing, and I hope that you continue to do so, as you become more familiar with the policies of the site! -Harmil 15:37, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First off, I want to be clear here. I haven't requested deletion of any images you've uploaded with one exception, and that one was just a duplicate. I've added the {{nosource}} tag, but that gives you plenty of time to decide what to do. I would suggest one of the following actions:
  • Remove the images from the articles that link to them and provide external links (i.e. in the External links section) to the site that hosts the images.
  • Or, you could take picutures to replace the images, upload them and change any articles to point to your new images (try to avoid uploading under the same name).
  • Or, you could seek out the original authors and request permission for the images to be used under a license like the CC-BY-SA-2.5 or the GFDL.
I'm just going through tons of images (yours included) and sorting out the licensing status. I'm not making any judgements about you or your contributions beyond that technical detail. I know that it's frustrating to not be able to just use images that are out there on the Web, but Wikipedia needs to be able to offer its images to users of the Wikipedia site and its down-stream sites without fear of legal action.
Thank you again, and happy editing! -Harmil 15:51, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Shuts and passages

[edit]

Hi there - not Wikipedia related, but very much Shrewsbury related! Have a read of the following article about the new move by the County Council to add 20 of the shuts and passages in the town centre to the rights of way map.

http://shrewsburyforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1390

It's an important moment in getting many of the town's shuts and passages the protection they deserve. Would be most excellent if you could chip in with a letter of support or so. David (talk) 21:12, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:Central trains logo.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Central trains logo.gif|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 15:00, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Southern toc logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Southern toc logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:40, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shrewsbury

[edit]

Seeing that you are one of the major contributors, this is a quick note to let you know that I have done some additions, mainly in terms of photos. In particular for your interests, I have added a paragraph about the Railway Station for its architectural interest. I think it can be described as mock Tudor but I am not well enough qualified in architecture to post such a claim on Wikipedia. You may like to copy that to your article on Shrewsbury railway station, but please leave it on the Shrewsbury article since it is of interest there. (I have found on someone's talk page a device for adding a new topic without clumsy edit of the whole Talk Page - feel free to copy it from my Talk Page.) Proposed deletion of List of Gap stores in the UK

The article List of Gap stores in the UK has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

None notable list and an advert

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Malcolma (talk) 17:38, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
