Request for entry expansion for Platon (photographer)

Dear Wikipedia Editors and Contributors,

I am writing on behalf of the studio of the photographer, Platon. I am an intern at Platon's Studio 1-2 days a week and have been given the task of reaching out to Wiki contributors with the hopes of finding someone to agree to updating the stub entry to a full biographical Wikipedia entry.

Could someone please advise on how might I go about getting a photographer's stub upgraded and updated to a full Wikipedia entry?

Platon already has a Wiki entry started, but it provides mostly out of date information. Furthermore, his career meets many of the criteria for an entry on a photographer including the fact that:

- he has put out multiple books by (non-vanity) commercial publishers or university presses.

- his has appeared in many exhibitions that have been noted in more than local press.

- his work has historical significance. For instance, he has photographed more world leaders than any other living photographer.

I would be happy to provide any factual information in regards to things such as: showdates, books published, holdings in prominent permanent collections by museums etc., that might be required in researching the article. I understand that I may not be able to write the entry myself because I work in his studio, but I was wondering what other options might be open to me in order to get his entry updated?

Hi, Johnny and thanks for your interest in Wikipedia! This can be a challenging place to edit, particularly when you have a conflict of interest as in your case. The first step towards expanding an article is finding good secondary sources to provide material - we care much more about what others have to say about a topic than what the subject has to say about itself. If you are aware of some sources that could be used for expansion, you can post them to the article talk page. Please be mindful of the fact that it is not Wikipedia's goal to promote a topic or to provide only positive information - negative information could be added as well provided it is compliant with the stringent requirements of our policy on articles on living persons. Hi! I see you've already had a lot of sound advice from VQuakr. I'm going to add a couple of suggestions:
  • Change your username as soon as possible; I'm pretty sure that the one you have chosen would be considered misleading and/or promotional, even though it does honestly reveal your conflict of interest (yes, Catch-22).
  • Resign yourself (as perhaps you already have) to not editing the article directly, but instead making suggestions on the talkpage, with reliable sources as suggested above (if those sources are obviously mainstream and also visible to all, what they say is more likely to convince).
  • I'd spend some time looking at, and perhaps editing, some other articles that you have no connection with (other photographers, perhaps?), as a means to understanding what is and what is not usually thought to be acceptable round here. It's a minefield, as perhaps you've already noticed.
