Peerage (disambiguation)

Hi Pigsonthewing, per WP:INTDABLINK, intentional links to disambiguation pages should always use the title containing '(disambiguation)', even if that is a redirect. This is to distinguish them from unintentional links that need to be fixed. So Peer (disambiguation) is the correct format. Leschnei (talk) 23:56, 28 March 2023 (UTC)

my story today

Thank you for improving articles in March! - Today we remember the 150th birthday of Max Reger, who saw the horrors of a world war right when it began in 1914, while others were still in high patriotic moods -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:27, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

sharing impressions from vacation on Madeira 20-30 March, pics now at 24 Mar from the peaks - the Mozart RfC (with a non-neutral invitation to fight) was closed, and went rather peacefully - what can we learn from it? - I saw today that Brian Boulton added an infobox to Imogen Holst in 2014, edit summary "risk" - should it still be a risk in 2023 to follow his example? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:36, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2015

Hi Andy. Please see my user talk for a discussion regarding the death of Tom Loback aka User:Tttom at Wikipedia and User:TTThom (Commons mostly). While he was not a regular text ontributor in the sense of some hundred edits as required by the guidelines for inclusion, I think his publicly acclaimed professional illustrations helped to improve a lot of WP articles related to JRR Olkien's world. I tried to add a brief section for him at WP:Deceased Wikipedians but found that this seems to be some complex template affair. Would you mind adding a short summary for Tom at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2015 instead? RS for his passing can be found in the article and there is a VRT Ticket:2010081410001091 that links one of his accounts to the artist Loback. De728631 (talk) 13:42, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

@De728631: You can edit Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2015 - just add a new section at the bottom. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:59, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. I figured it out now and wrote a section about Tom's contributions. De728631 (talk) 11:18, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Animal Instincts Confusing?

Please explain your addition of the "confusing" template to Animal Instincts on its Talk page. I've looked at the page (again) and I don't understand what is confusing about it. Thanks. Hondo77 (talk) 14:26, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Wikimedia apps newsletter-April 2023

Welcome to the first edition of the Apps newsletter!

This newsletter informs you about new features, updates, or improvements to the Wikipedia mobile apps. It will be sent every two months, with a brief description of the updates and work progress we have been through.

iOS

From January to April 2023:

Since January, we have finished our work on edit notices, custom block messages, and abuse filter messages. Those features were released in 7.2.0 on March 13. Check here for detailed information.

Android

From January to April 2023:

Since January, we've been completing our experiment with machine-generated article descriptions, refined our feature of shareable reading lists, and begun work towards adopting IP masking functionality. Check here for detailed information.

Office hours

The first Apps office hour was held on the 23rd of March 2023; detailed information about the announcement, agenda, and even the record and presentation deck can be found here.

Community meetings

  • We enjoyed meeting the Dagbani user group for a one-hour meeting and answering all of their question about Wikipedia’s mobile applications and how to use them for reading, searching, and editing. The community users expressed that they care about having more offline usage capabilities, and a new section related to this topic will be added to the Apps FAQ soon.
  • With pleasure, we had a meeting with the Commons volunteers to explore possibilities for collaboration between them and the apps team within the foundation. We reached an agreement to intervene in critical situations with the play store to ensure that the Commons app remains accessible online.

We are excited and willing to arrange meetings with other community members who are interested. You may also contact us at aramadan@wikimedia.org to arrange such gatherings. ;)

Exciting news: iOS is currently developing a watchlist feature. Stay tuned for our next newsletter release to learn additional details about it.

You can subscribe to this newsletter from here.

April songs

April songs
my story today

I love to see Marian Anderson on the Main page today, with her singing protest against discrimination on Easter Sunday, 9 April 1939! Thank you for your 2012 talk page comments, and happy Easter, - I celebrate singing. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:16, 9 April 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for article improvements in April! - Today is the 80th birthday of John Eliot Gardiner. Br'er cropped the image - I'm getting sentimental in memory. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:30, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
