Nothing florid, nothing fancy. Just thanks for the support. I'll try to wield the Mop-and-Bucket with grace and humility. --Orange Mike 04:02, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hi there! It's been a while. Anyways, just noticed that another user had to be removed from your adoption list due to getting banned. I somehow get the feeling that more than one of your adoptees have turned out in a similar manner.... and I was thinking that it's possible that you as an adopter might be totally bummed out. Just wanted to let ya know that all your adoptions have not gone in waste. I've still not made it as a very proficient editor; but I can say that I've written quite enough to have left a mark on WP, however small the mark may be! Just thought I'd drop in and let ya know that you've made me most of what I am. :) Thanks a million! aJCfreak yAk 22:25, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am pretty bummed, I have had a couple adoptees banned, and also a couple users who were not my adoptees, but I spent a large amount of time trying to help. I am very pleased with how you have turned out though, and I don't think many adopters can boast of having users who became their adoptees shortly after joining, and turned out anywhere near as well as you. But then, it was not really my fault that you turned out so well, I really just got lucky in picking you. So, thanks for the encouragement man. See you around! --Mark (Mschel) 01:19, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Me thinks that luck didn't have much to do wiv it... But n e ways. :) Don't get so bummed - you're a wonderful adopter. Most of what I know on WP comes from you. So there... :) aJCfreak yAk 13:48, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello; you're a cool guy. Can I be a fan?Gamaliel (talk) 01:58, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing! --Mark (Mschel) 20:25, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mschel,

Thanks for your edits today on Dinosaur. I reverted the second one, which you stated in the edit summary as Copy editing. Don't bother adding a single line break after a heading: it will have no effect on the layout of the page. Similarly, typing ==Heading== has the same effect as == Heading ==, so changing them has no effect. You can read more about this at WP:HEAD.

The only significant change you made to the page (and the only one that will show up at all) is you removed the pipe from Category:Dinosaurs. ([[Category:Dinosaurs|]] to [[Category:Dinosaurs]]). The pipe is there to cause the Dinosaur article to sort itself to the top of Category:Dinosaurs, as it's a major article in the category. Removing the pipe causes the article to get mixed in with other articles in the category.

Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 00:23, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

O! I saw a couple other guys doing that, did not realize it was not good. Sorry about that! I will refrain in future. Thanks for letting me know. --Mark (Mschel) 03:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the adding/removing spaces in headings will have no effect whatsoever, so it's not bad, it just will waste your time. Similarly, adding or removing a single line break won't make any difference to the page. You can remove a pipe from a category if it's clear there's no need for the pipe. It just depends on the situation. In this case, that's not what we wanted: we wanted the Dinosaur article to be listed at the top of Category:Dinosaurs. Good luck with your editing. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 12:52, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

please adopt me!

i'm anomaly-117's little brother i think you know him. please be my mentor. here is my testimony

i used to go on the sites to vandlize them and i destroyed sites and know i kinda wanta to fix my erorrs and get those that make them plus i kinda liike to chat and look up halo and after some guy put inaproprit pictures on a hlo site and my teacher saw them and i am now band from the site i just want to help fix old wiki up after all the abuse i caused.--ANOMALY-116 (talk) 05:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

he really is my little brother not a sock or and he was a huge vandle and im trying to set him straightANOMALY-117 (talk) 13:55, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing! You can add {{adoptee|Mschel}} to your userpage to show that I have adopted you. By the way, a little advice for both of you, don't vote on anything the other one of you has already voted on, it could lead to trouble. --Mark (Mschel) 14:19, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
yea sockpuppet i already explained that and i was alittle woried that i would be nailed if he did this usernameANOMALY-117 (talk) 15:07, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like he wants to be unblocked to change his name. [1] Not 100% on the course of action to take here, so I thought I'd come to you. You were his mentor, weren't you? GlassCobra 02:54, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you reject the unblock request. It is the request template used for someone who has been username blocked, and he was blocked for his behavior. He has provided no reasoning for an unblock. And yes, I was his mentor. --Mark (Mschel) 03:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ooh. sounds like a story behind this one hmm.. so what he do?--ANOMALY-117 (talk) 22:48, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He made some immature edits, and then some nasty personal attacks. To top it all off he created a block evading sockpuppet account. --Mark (Mschel) 22:59, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
so he did this out of the blue one day or did he go from bad to worse?ANOMALY-117 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 23:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He was doing fine until he created some immature userboxes, when they were deleted he started doing the personal attacks and such. --Mark (Mschel) 23:06, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
wow! thats a big deal over userboxes, so how long until he's released. and what do you think will happen? ANOMALY-117 (talk) 23:08, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it was not a big deal until he made it one. He is blocked indefinitely, and I think he will have a hard time getting un-blocked. By the way, I think his original block was too harsh, but after he made personal attacks and an abusive sockpuppet, I decided he should probably remain blocked. --Mark (Mschel) 23:14, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We could let him in for a length of time that he is unaware of then after said time is over we re-block and discuss whether he should be let back in under "parol" or something.ANOMALY-117 (talk) 23:16, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Could you try to indent your posts with colons? Thanks. What would the point be of letting him back for a while without telling him? --Mark (Mschel) 23:20, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. ANOMALY-117 (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
so that way he doesn't know he's being watched. that way we will see what he really would do.ANOMALY-117 (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I mean if I was given a second chance and I was still angry and I knew about the second chance I would act good then when I'm let back in that's when I would strike. ANOMALY-117 (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If we unblocked him and he did not know he was unblocked, then he would not edit, so we would not get anything from watching him. And if he found out he was unblocked then he would do the same thing he would do if he was told he had been unblocked. --Mark (Mschel) 23:36, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
good point this idea can work but it needs revisoning. ANOMALY-117 (talk) 23:49, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

around the same time as epicflame and his tantrum their was a user called anonomys and i can't find him will you help me? he's a vandle but claims he is unstopable (he is REALLY good with computers maybe that has something to do with it he should be active as of today he could be watching everbody i know so... will you help me?ANOMALY-117 (talk) 00:48, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If he is a vandle then he is probably blocked now, so I don't think we have anything to worry about. --Mark (Mschel) 14:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:ABSCBN.svg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

New image project

[edit]

Hi. This little form letter is just a courtesy notice to let you know that a proposal to merge the projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Free images, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use, Wikipedia:WikiProject Moving free images to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration into the newly formed Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media has met with general support at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Files. Since you're on the rosters of membership in at least one of those projects, I thought you might be interested. Conversation about redirecting those projects is located here. Please participate in that discussion if you have any interest, and if you still have interest in achieving the goals of the original project, we'd love to have you join in. If you aren't interested in either the conversation or the project, please pardon the interruption. :) Thanks. Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:34, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations

[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)

Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.

Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.

Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 21:32, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
