- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}

[edit]This is your only warning; if you use Wikipedia for soapboxing, promotion or advertising again, as you did at Tea culture, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. This is NOT what this global encyclopedia is for. Do not ever do this again. Julietdeltalima (talk) 16:19, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Juliet,
- Thank you for that. I am a bit confused, Tanzania is a major tea growing country and we have a tea culture of which I only hinted at. We have similarities with chai from India and tend to grow a lot of Assam varieties. Tea is considered an important drink here and is consumed more than coffee. I am not sure how I was soapboxing, I thought I was improving the page by including a tea-producing and tea-drinking country.
- Perhaps you could let me know where I went wrong so that I do not repeat the mistake. I am passionate about increading Tanzania's presence on Wikipedia and perhaps you can help me do that better.
- Thank you. Mikocheni Reporter (talk) 16:20, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- The fact that you included an inline external link to a very spammy-looking website is not good. Many of your contributions seem to consist only of inserting what sounds like tourism-industry promotional language, which is not of any encyclopedic benefit; please see Wikipedia's guidelines regarding the inappropriateness of flowery adjectives. You can't be "passionate about increasing [a subject's] presence" here. Please read WP:NPOV and WP:COI. We are here to be neutral and objective and if you are "passionate" about a subject you must be very sure not to let your enthusiasm slip into your writing. I am unfortunately not able to take more time discussing this with you today (it is the last work day before a holiday weekend in the U.S. and I have quite a lot to do) but I urge you to ask this question at WP:TEAHOUSE for further feedback. Thanks. - Julietdeltalima (talk) 16:32, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I shall keep your advice in mind. Enjoy your holiday. Mikocheni Reporter (talk) 16:36, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
