Tom Waits

[edit]

I just wandered from the Rickie Lee Jones article to the one on Tom Waits and was struck by its remarkable quality. I looked to see if one editor was largely responsible and it seems to have been you. I wanted to thank you for that particular article, but realized from your User page that you're one of the most prolific contributors to Wikipedia. I applaud you for your wide-ranging and important efforts. Activist (talk) 20:56, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Activist. I appreciate your message. I'm not as active on Wikipedia as I used to be, but I still try to improve things where I can. Midnightblueowl (talk) 10:37, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This came much later than expected, but you're quite welcome :) SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 11:22, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SNUGGUMS: My apologies for the (rather lengthy) delay in thanking you. This is the first time that I've been back on Wikipedia since February. I'm not able to commit as much time to the project as I used to be able to, which is a shame. Anyway, once again - thank you for reviewing the article. Nice to see it finally reach FA status. 21:01, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, do what you can. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:52, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Shinto revisions

[edit]

Hello. I have an idea that involves bringing back the edits on Shinto I made that you removed. Find better sources that go into them in more detail, and then expand what I made so it's actually worth being on Wikipedia. GoutComplex (talk) 19:47, 21 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I do appreciate that your edits here were well-intentioned, GoutComplex, but I'm not sure that the added information was all strictly true. Stating that "Modern Shintoism generally avoids preconceptions of earlier Japanese religious thought of a supreme god or gods" does not strike me as being an accurate statement about Japanese religious history. Moreover, we do not need citations added to the lead when the information is already appropriately cited in the main body of the article. Midnightblueowl (talk) 09:34, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion of Angela Lansbury

Congratulations, Midnightblueowl! The article you nominated, Angela Lansbury, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:05, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Frances Yates-en.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Frances Yates-en.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Frances Yates-en.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Frances Yates-en.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:16, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

May songs
my story today

Thank you today for the article, introduced (in 2018): "This article is about a Kentish folk custom performed at Christmas time during the nineteenth century. It involved a troupe of young men dressing up, one of them as the "hooden horse" in a hobby horse costume, and knocking at people's doors, prancing around and requesting payment. The original custom died out in the early twentieth century, although hooden horses have since been incorporated into newly devised forms of Kentish folk culture, such as various Kentish May Day parades and Morris dances."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:20, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Margaret Murray scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Margaret Murray article has been scheduled as today's featured article for July 13, 2023. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page blurb, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 13, 2023, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so. July songs
my story today

Thank you today for the article, introduced (in 2016): "This article is about a prominent Anglo-Indian Egyptologist, archaeologist, and folklorist, known for being one of the earliest female scholars in her subject matter and for establishing the controversial witch-cult theory."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:19, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Urn image to Commons?

[edit]

Hi. I would like to transfer this image of an ern, Snape urn.jpg, to Commons. A bot has already suggested it. I'm still not clear on how copyright works with this sort of thing, though. My impression is that if this is a photo that you, yourself, took and uploaded, then you have power over the copyright. But I can't verify, from what is included in the description, if this is the case or not. Is there some way that more details can be added to the summary or maybe you can just go ahead and transfer the image to Commons if it meets all of the qualifications? Thanks so much. Redheadkelly (talk) 04:24, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I think I took the photograph in question, and then edited it to add a black background. Midnightblueowl (talk) 13:52, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

Hi, great work on the Korean shamanism article! I see around January you added refs to an "Im N. 2013" and "Kim J. 1974" source, but the full info for those sources aren't present in the article. Could you add them onto the source list on the bottom? Thanks for your contributions btw, they're super good! toobigtokale (talk) 04:51, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello toobigtokale, and thank you both for your kind words and for your recent efforts in formatting the Korean shamanism article. The two particular citations that you mention were not actually added by me, so I'm really not sure what they are referencing. We should probably just delete them. Midnightblueowl (talk) 08:52, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This has been proposed for deletion. It strikes me as up your street... The article's in very poor shape, but maybe there is something worth saving. If it's not of interest or you don't have time, please ignore me! Josh Milburn (talk) 14:18, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It does look interesting, so thank you for bringing the article to my attention, Josh. I'm not sure if there are the RS out there at present around which to construct such an article, but I'll try to get to it if I can find the time. Hope that you are keeping well. Lenin’s lead section

[edit]

@Midnightblueowl Regardless of the outcome of the RfC discussions, I wanted to add a minor word to the last sentence of the lead section. Specifically, I just wanted to add the word “anti-colonial activism” or “anti-imperialism” into the sentence about his support of socialism. These are a few words and also highlight a key area of his support in the contemporary world. WikiUser4020 (talk) 07:59, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiUser4020: Thanks for your message. Best to raise the issue over at the article Talk Page, rather than here. That way you can judge whether there is wider support for your proposed addition. Midnightblueowl (talk) 14:27, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Midnightblueowl I understand that substantial additions should require input from wider editors. However, it it really necessary to open an RfC discussion or sub section for the addition of a single word?, this may lead to fatigue and lack of engagement given the amount of existing discussions. WikiUser4020 (talk) 14:57, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Shepperton Henge

[edit]

Hi @Midnightblueowl:
I am planning to add some information on pre-history to the Shepperton article over the next few weeks. I came across the Shepperton Henge article that you created four years or so ago and wondered if it would be a good idea to combine it with the article on the village. Doing so would place the henge in the wider context of the prehistoric human activity in the area. The Shepperton Henge article is a very short stub and appears to be an orphan.
Would you be supportive of a proposal to merge the Shepperton Henge article into the main Shepperton page please?
Thanks and best wishes, Mertbiol (talk) 10:50, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mertbiol. I would rather see the Shepperton Henge article retained, as it will be of specific interest to archaeologists in a way that a general Shepperton article might not be, but I wish you well with your expansion of the latter. I really need to get around to fleshing the Shepperton Henge article out. Midnightblueowl (talk) 21:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Midnightblueowl: Would you be happy to change it to a redirect for the time being and then when you do have time to expand, we could go back to a stand-alone article? I think any professional archaeologist is going to look at the excavation report and they would not bother looking at Wikipedia stub. Best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 21:26, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, for now I suppose that would be fine. But I must get around to expanding it! Midnightblueowl (talk) 21:27, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Midnightblueowl: I'm planning to add to the Shepperton article over the weekend, so I'll turn the Shepperton Henge article into a redirect when I'm done. Best wishes Mertbiol (talk) 21:29, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
