European Union
Marek - Notice you edit the European Union page - I don't edit, but someone should get rid of the Nazi flag. RJaffeEsq@aol.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.227.73.42 (talk) 20:52, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
On this subject, you ask how to define the "sphere of influence". However, in this article, there is a link to the definition of this: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Spheres_of_influence
"In the field of international relations, a sphere of influence (SOI) is an area or region over which a state or organization has significant cultural, economic, military or political influence. While there may be a formal alliance or other treaty obligations between the influenced and influencer, such formal arrangements are not necessary and the influence can often be more of an example of soft power. Similarly, a formal alliance does not necessarily mean that one country lies within another's sphere of influence. In more extreme cases, a country within the "sphere of influence" of another may become a subsidiary of that state and serve in effect as a satellite state or de facto colony. The system of spheres of influence by which powerful nations intervene in the affairs of others continues to the present day. It is often analyzed in terms of superpowers, great powers, and/or middle powers."

I received a strange message...
Hello Marek69, I received a message from Wikipedia just now informing me about a supposed unconstructive edit that had been made on a "List of films" article, and this message stated the edit was made from my IP address... however, I never once visited that article nor made any edits to it. What surprised me was what the edit read "KILL EVERYONE YOU SEE IN THE NEXT 30 MINUTES". I'm here to say that this is some sort of error, I never paid a visit to this "List of films" article and left such an eerie message.
Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added byUntroublesomethoughts (talk •contribs) 21:01, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Why was this not approved
Hi this is my first time using Wikipedia and I would like to update the Good Neighbor Pharmacy page. You recently said I violated the rules and I would like to know what I can do to correctly update it with the below information? About Good Neighbor Pharmacy
Good Neighbor Pharmacy is a network of more than 3,700 independent pharmacies across the United States. Our mission is to offer competitive pricing on a wide range of over-the-counter and prescription medications, while providing the personalized service that people have come to expect from a neighborhood pharmacy. Good Neighbor Pharmacy is part of a program offered by AmerisourceBergen, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical services companies serving the United States, Canada and selected global markets.
Good Neighbor Pharmacy in the Community
Valley Forge, PA (June 13, 2011) – Good Neighbor Pharmacy was a sponsor of the TODAY Show’s “Lend a Hand” program from June 13-17. The program’s series traveled to five cities across the country, in five days helping support five community charities. This year, Al Roker traveled to Anchorage, AK; Las Vegas, NV; Houston, TX; Birmingham, AL and Charleston, WV. Good Neighbor Pharmacy supplied first aid kits, personal care items, bottled water and other items based on the needs of the charities. The charities also be received a financial donation from Good Neighbor Pharmacy.

hi Status Online
Hi, I can`t make my status online, how did you do it? is it a special code, you use? Marian Dan (talk) 18:53, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
I forgot to sign sorry :D
- Hi Marian Dan, thank you for your message.
- I have used the Template:Statustop
- I'm afraid that as I set this up so long ago, I'm not sure I remember exactly how to do it :-(
- I think you just add (or variation of) to your user/talk page.
- You have to add the code (import or copy) from User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js to your Special:MyPage/monobook.js orSpecial:MyPage/vector.js file (depends on which wiki-skin you use)
- I think that you also need to manually create your Special:MyPage/Status page too.
- As I say its been a long time since I set this up, I hope it works for you. :-)

Your reversion for Skopje
Hi Marek,
The rationale for the changes I made to the Skopje page are clearly laid out on the Discussion page for Skopje. If you object to that, I would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts there. I would also appreciate if you took the time to check out yourself who reverted who first and what are the changes are at stake. Simply reverting it without an explanation (what you did, what the user before you did) is very arrogant, unwelcoming and insulting.
Thank you.
Wisco2000 (talk) 22:39, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
Just a clarification: when I made my first changes, I stated clearly why those changes were made (Quote: The statement that is removed was not supported by a single reference that was listed there.) Another user reversed my changes without explaining why. I have also left detailed comments (this time being the second time) on the talk page. You chose to revert my changes.
I would strongly advise you to undo your changes. They are very very very offensive and they amount to academic misconduct and misrepresentation and blatant plagiarism. I am assuming in good faith that you chose not to take a look at what you did. Wisco2000 (talk) 22:59, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Wisco2000. I simply reverted thisedit which, as I stated, was an 'unexplained removal of references'
- Your edit removed the following from the article:

Hi Marek69: What is the best way to solicit feedback on a new article? Sounds silly, but I'm a bit anxious and would like to make sure my first new submission is broadly acceptable. Thanks --Dkdantastic (talk) 14:59, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Dkdantastic, thank you for your message.
- I had a quick look at your contributions and noticed the article you are working on in your sandbox titled industrial revenue bond, I'm guessing this is the new article you are referring to.
- If so, then I would say that this article looks pretty good. You have written it in an encyclopaedic style and added references.
- It probably could do with a few more Wikilinks and to have a definate lead sectionfollowed by the main body of text under a suitable heading.
- More information on article formats can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style.
- If you do want some more feedback on an article, Wikipedia:Requests for feedback is a good place to go.
- I hope this information helps.

Hi, thanks for the welcome and also, a couple questions
Hello... Thanks for the cookies. I wasn't expecting that. Since you offered, I am really going to take you up on few questions.
I am brand new here and pretty much each thing I am wanting to do is hard for me to research. I am trying to learn how to "talk" correctly so I can at least get the right communications sent in the talk pages I need to comment in. Once I can at least "talk" I can ask questions in the appropriate talk pages and learn some of the nuances.
Right from the start I was finding myself seeing some very troubled conventions on the capitalization of mammal species' names. That led me to these discussions below.
Question 0: Have I communicated to you in the correct place? :)
Question 1: About talk. How do I reply directly to some talk. In particular. I found the link in this talk contribution did not lead to a location with the mentioned content. Can I reply to that talk and ask for an update on the location of the link being referenced? Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Mammals#Where_to_put_a_decision...
Question 2: Perhaps as a novice it is presumptuous to want to add my name to this list. But out of curiosity how would I add my "vote" of support to this list below? Is it too audacious as a novice to support this? My experience is like many of the others on the "support" list; I have found the dagger is standard usage and long time convention of both biologists and paleontologists. Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Icons#Support
Thanks again for the welcome.
Mavaction (talk) 20:39, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Mavaction, thank you for your message.
- You seem to be communicating very well already, in my opinion.
- I'll try to answer your questions:
- Q 0. Yes, you have come to the correct place to talk to me :-)
- Q 1. To reply to a comment, you simply add your comment below, starting with a : in order to indent your comment, as in the example below:
How's the soup? --User:John :It's great!! --User:Jane ::I made it myself! --User:John Let's move the discussion to Talk:Soup. --User:Jane :I tend to disagree. --User:George |
How's the soup? --John Let's move the discussion to Talk:Soup. --Jane
|
- You can read more on this subject on the help page Using talk pages
- Q 2 I can't see any reason why you shouldn't add your comment to the discussion on Dagger (typography). You seem to know what you are talking about and newcomers are encouraged to participate in discussions.
- I hope my comments have helped a bit. Please come back if there is anything else I can help you with.
- Alternatively, if I'm not around or for another opinion, you can always ask questions at the Wikipedia:Help desk
- Best of Luck.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Pizitz Middle School, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please usethe sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you! - Hi Abel, thank you for your message.
- However I am not completely sure why you are giving me a level 1 template warning.
- My edit to Pizitz Middle School was to revert of IP 68.186.183.152 edit who had previously beenreverted by ClueBot.
- Your edit was to revert back to IP 68.186.183.152's version, restoring the following line: 'really best exsperaince of my life' under References.
- You also gave me a level 1 template warning for vandalism for my edit.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Victorian Bandstand Eastleigh.JPG
A tag has been placed on File:Victorian Bandstand Eastleigh.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. sabotage of Bain and Company page
I keep on removing irrelevant sections from Bain and Company page, and two users, who are new and have only ever edited that page, who wrote the sections, keep on putting it back. Please can you remove those sections that they put in and block them?
Thanks, Daniel D3swooshg (talk) 17:03, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that there are problems with unsupported material being inserted by two editors who refuse to discuss this material on the talk page. Much of this material has citations, but the citations do not support the claims being made about misconduct by Bain, or do not support the suggestion that the action mentioned in the article was due to Bain's actions. (I was at first fooled by these citations.)
- However, at least some of the material that Daniel wants to delete is (or appears to be) supported by the sources cited.
- Daniel - please can you discuss your proposed deletions on the talk page.
- Marek - help in trying to deal with the basic problem that Daniel is complaining about would be most welcome.--Toddy1 (talk) 17:01, 21 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Toddy & Daniel, I think there should be a discussion on the article's talk page, detailing reasons for keeping/deleting the sections in question.
- The current situation of reverting, re-reverting is not really achieving anything.
- I propose to continue further discussions there

Please could you explain the advantages of a mysterious edit you made
I am sorry to trouble you, but you did an edit that I cannot understand to tables in the article on Dnipropetrovsk -your edit of 00:17, 16 September 2011 (UTC). In your edit you made changes such as:
- From: !align = "center" colspan=5|
- To: ! style="text-align:center;" colspan="5"|
and:
- From: |align = "right"| 47,200
- To: | style="text-align:right;"| 47,200
The changes do not seem to have made any difference, so why did you do them?

Part of the reason for asking, is that I sometimes find that when make strange apparently pointless edits, they sometimes make them for very good reasons, and if I can understand why, I can do better in the future.--Toddy1 (talk) 04:38, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Incidentally, your edit summary was: "Filling in 1 references using Reflinks", which I found counter-intuitive.--Toddy1 (talk) 04:51, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Toddy1, thank you for your message
- In answer to your question, I was using a script called Reflinks (which adds title to bare references in the forms of or )
- In the example you mention, my edit to Dnipropetrovsk, the script 'filled in the title for 1 reference' , i.e. it made the following change:
Dnipropetrovsk is represented within Ukrainian Bandy and Rink-bandy Federation.
- was changed to:
Dnipropetrovsk is represented within Ukrainian Bandy and Rink-bandy Federation.
- The above change were the primary reason for my edit.
- The rest of the changes, as I gather, are automatic format changes, which the author of Reflinks has added.
- The script only does this if you have the 'apply common fixes' box checked.
- The author's description of these 'common fixes' is 'applies fixes such as link simplification, HTML 4 to XHMTL+CSS conversions, template fix ups, and reference formatting.'
- I do not uses Relinks that often, so my knowledge of it is very limited.
- (I'm sure the author, User:Dispenser, would be able to explain the script a lot better than me.)
- However, I hope my attempt at an explanation has helped you understand my edit a bit better, and make it a bit less mysterious. :-)

hi my friend it will be easy for you to edit the mechanical engineering article and change the title from Mechanical engineering to Mechanical Engineering? Thanks. — Preceding unsignedcomment added by Rioshorty (talk • contribs) 21:13, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Creating a page about "collaborative decision making"
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the help offered. I want to write a page about a filed I am researching "Collaborative decision making". Today it is redirected to to Collaboration. How can I redirect it to stand-alone page?
Thanks, --Tal.yaron (talk) 08:51, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Tal, thank you or your message.
- Before changing the Collaborative decision making, I think you should first prepare the article you are going to replace it with.
- In my opinion it is best to create the article first in your user space.
- As a registered user, you have your own user space. You can start the new article there, on asubpage, i.e. User:Tal.yaron/Collaborative decision making. (Just click on the red link to create)
- For more information on how to create your own subpage, see here
- You can then take your time getting the article into shape, exactly the way you want it. You can also ask other editors to help work on it.
- Once you are happy that it is ready to go, you can move it into the "live" Wikipedia area. The article can then bemoved into the main area, replacing the redirect. This is not difficult.
- If you require any assistance along the way, please do not hesitate to contact me here.

Red Link Recover
Hello. As a Polish-speaking WikiGnome, I'd like to solicit your help in testing a new tool. For a few years now, the Red Link Recovery Project has been using theRed Link Recovery Live tool to track down and fix unnecessarily red links in articles. Recently, the tool has been expanded to work on non-English Wikipedias. A small set of suggested fixes for red-links on the Polish-language Wikipedia have been prepared and I'm hoping to interest some Polish-language speakers (such as yourself) to work through them.
If you are interested, please visit [2]. Each time you refresh the page you'll be presented with three new suggested fixes. I'll be happy to answer any questions on the tools talk page. - TB (talk) 20:10, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

- Yes, in situations like this it would be useful to have the 'block' button.
- Not really given RfA much thought, apart from being able to set aside time to participate (a bit scarce at the moment).

numbered schools
Hi, Marek69! I want write new little articles about my primary school - 189th Secondary School. My school located in Desna raion, Kiev, Ukraine. But also there is school with same number and same name in other country - 189th Secondary School - in Minsk_Belarus, in St.Peterburg_Russia, in Baku_Azerbajdzhan maybe in Tashkent_Uzbekistan. There are no according articles in wikipedia about this schols, but they may appear in future. How I can naming my articles correctly 189th_Secondary_School or 189th_Secondary_School_(Ukraine)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leonid76 (talk • contribs) 20:38, 22 September 2011 (UTC) --Leonid76 (talk) 20:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

- 189th Secondary School (Ukraine) sounds fine to me.
- One word of advice: I would start the article in your user space first, i.e. User:Leonid76/189th Secondary School (Ukraine), rather than making it 'live' straight away (see my comments on this subjectabove)
- If you need any help with the article, I'd be happy to assist. :-)

- Hi Leonid. Thank you or your message.
- I've had a look and I think the page looks really good!!
- If you are ready to move the page to main space, on the article under the tab Page, you will find a link calledMove Page
- Clicking on this will bring up a page containing the following:
Move page: User:Leonid76/189th Secondary School (Ukraine)
To new title: Reason:
- Where it says To new title:, fill in 189th Secondary School (Ukraine)
- Where it says Reason:, fill in 'moving to mainspace' or a similar explanation.
- Then your article will be moved.

Thank you for help, Marek69. I try to write same articles in Russian and Ukrainian language and then linked--Leonid76 (talk) 23:27, 24 September 2011 (UTC).
- I'm sorry for my intrusion here, but I see some reasons to suppose that 189th Secondary School (Kiev) would be more appropriate. The thing is, in ex-USSR countries the way to distinguish schools is somewhat special, normally they're just numbered starting from 1 in every locality with optional titles or clarifications being added when necessary. Therefore, despite this school happened to be the only one #189 in Ukraine, first of all is "The 189th Secondary School of the Desna Raion in Kiev (Kyiv)", so that all of the 188 preceding ones are supposed to be located in the city and nowhere else. Should it be, say, number 89, most likely other schools in different cities would be found with the same number, thus in case of full coverage the naming system would be a mess with alternating city and country names. Here, not so many secondary schools from those countries are described, that's why the problem about their peculiar naming convention hasn't been considered in earnest, but I'm inclined to specify the city wherever possible, based on the compiled arguments. All in all, no "Secondary School #xxx in Ukraine" exists, the city or town name is always given in its full title, whereas every locality assigns numbers totally independently of others. This is the main difference from UK or USA educational institutions, which are ordinarily named, ruling out most coincidences. Please reckon with these arguments, I'm not that well-informed about local traditions and conventions, so I'm leaving it for your consideration. Thanks, --Microcell (talk) 20:04, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Microcell, thank you for your message.
- Also thank you for adding extra information to the discussion. I will inform Leonid of your input.

- OK, thanks for letting me know. You're probably right, 189th Secondary School (Kiev) would be a more accurate title for the article
- We might as well get it right from the beginning. I'm guess Leonid would have no problem with the change. --Marek.69 talk 20:25, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- I told him the same some minutes before in uk.wiki, I simply wanted to let you consider the case :) --Microcell (talk) 20:17, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
I change from 3 to4 but problem with numbered schools remains an open. In according to 5 the189th_Secondary_School_(Ukraine) does not mean 189th Secondary School of Ukraine. In this case (Ukraine)/(Kiev)/(Kiev, Ukraine) is only location of 189th Secondary School. From other hand oficial title name The 189th Secondary School ... of the Desna Raion of Kiev is not correct, becouse there is no numeration in Desna Raion. Schools numerated in all city of Kiev, include of Desna Raion. This oficial title name not used in real life, people used simlyfied name - 189th school or 189th Secondary School. Best Regards--Leonid76 (talk) 22:15, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Leonid, thank you for your message.
- As I understand, the number 189 signifies that the school is the 189th Secondary School in Ukraine. Is this correct?
- I was just thinking; Is the title that important?, i.e. 189th Secondary School (Ukraine) is a redirect to this page, so anyone searching 189th Secondary School (Ukraine) or 189th Secondary School (Kiev) will end up at this article {plus any other redirects which can be created to facilitate this)
- The exact meaning and significance of the 189th Secondary School and its relevance to the Desna Region, Kiev or the Ukraine can be explained in more detail, for the reader, within the article.
- I'm not sure if this is helpul or not, as you and User:Microcell seem to be much more knowledgeable on the subject than me. :-)
- Best Regards -- Marek.69 talk 22:52, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for answering, Marek69. The 189th Secondary School (Kiev) exact means Kiev Secondary School No.189. It is a same name, only in other oder of words.

Hello Marek69,
I am brand new to contributing to Wikipedia. I just requested a minor edit on the James Dean protected page and it already appears that it's been addressed positively - yay. But I'm trying sooo hard to NOT mess anything up or hurt anyone's feelings. I have been studying Wiki's help pages and looking around behind the scenes, but I feel that to be good enough I should treat this as a whole year of college in learning. I found you and see that you are reasonable, very experienced, and fair. I'm not ready to dive in totally (may drown lol), jeez I haven't even started my talk page or profile yet. One thing I've learned from looking about is to stay out of "wars" and to avoid editing pages that can be volitile. If I have an occasional question - do you have time to answ. it? Huggle templates
Hi Marek, hope you've been well since we chatted briefly at Wikimania. I saw you're online, so I thought I'd let you know that we're starting up another A/B test of level 1 warnings. If you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them. Cheers, Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 21:16, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Steven, thank you for your message.
- Its great that you're doing another test. I would be interested in browsing through the results if that is possible.
- I do have various thoughts on the subject. I shall have to devote some time to composing some notes on the subject, which I will then be very glad to share with you.
- Generally I think we are going in the right direction. I too dislike templates, but I think they are a necessaries evil at the moment. A lot could do with being rewritten to be friendlier.
- Since Wikimania, I feel I have taken much away from the discussions I took part in, and think I have changed my editing behaviour and attitude to dealing with vandalism. So far, with many positive results.
- One thought I have had recently, if it is possible, could we somehow differentiate between new and experienced user for the messages they receive from a template?, i.e. more comprehensive, helpful and informative messages for brand new users, which perhaps could be modified to be 'short and sweet' for experienced users? (Sometimes the same template, which is useful to a newcomer, can be considered 'patronising' by users with more knowledge and experience)
- I won't go on now, but when I do write my essay, I shall message you. :-)
- Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 22:04, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Hey.. Thanks for your constructive response because I want to make sure I do things right.. What I am trying to accomplish is taking out User:Evan Mancuso and having Evan Mancuso come up instead when you type in Evan Mancuso. Evan Mancuso is the account I have wikipedia.

Hi Marek, hope all is well with you and yours. I've finally been shamed into creating User:WereSpielChequers/Recall(Pedro named me in his, so I realised I really ought to have one myself). - Hi HJ, I have a similar situation with my train, so I will probably be staying quite late at the meetup (at least 8:30 -9:00)
- I've also heard that there are some 'hardened' Wikipedians who stay until 'kick-out' time sometimes, so you may be in luck if you want to stay even later. ;-)

Huggle template testing
Hey Marek,
You may not have noticed, but you're currently part of a little experiment Steven Walling and I are running on en.wiki: we're A/B testing Huggle templates to see if changing the content of their message has any effect on the user that receives them. We've been running the test since Sunday and will turn it off in two days and analyze all the data we've collected (over 1500 users Huggled as of yesterday!), but I wanted to get some unscientific feedback from some of the folks I noticed using our templates – including you :)
So, first thing's first: did you happen to notice that you were sending out different templates? And, more importantly, did you notice any difference on your talk page? More or less people than usual coming to talk to you? More or less vandalism or constructive questions?
Thanks a lot! And if you're interested in helping us tweak more templates, please let me know! We only tested the level 1 vandalism warning this week, but we're thinking of revamping the other level 1 warnings (test, NPOV, blanking, etc.) too. --Maryana (WMF) (talk) 18:56, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Maryana, thank you for your message.
- Sorry for the delay in replying to you. I needed a little time to think on the matter.
- Yes I was aware of the experiment as Steven kindly notified me when it was starting.
- Recently, since discussions at Wikimania in Haifa, I have slightly modified the way I use huggle.
- For example, I now tend rate the vandalism on a scale of severity;
- Only vandalism at the top of the scale, i.e. severe blatent & deliberate disruption is dealt with in the normal way; four escalatiog templates
- Everything else, I apply a good dose of WP:AGF
- If the edits are typical of a newbie, inexperienced, but not obviously bad faith, I will revert the edit and leave an appropriate explanation in the edit summary.
- I will typically leave a normal friendly welcome on their talk page, and unless they obviously look bad faith they will not get a single template message at all from me.
- If appropriate, I will try to guide them to the relevent help page or guideline to show them the correct methods.
- If the person looks like they are starting to troll, I apply Wikipedia:Deny recognition. I will give them a normal friendly welcome on their talk page and then simply revert their edits, again without any templating.
- My thinking is without a template they do not have anyone to fight with, their edits being quickly reverted, they frequently get bored and stop.
- If they do not stop, a friendly word on their talk page. If after this they continue misbehaving or escalate their attack, they are treated in the normal way.
- Generally, if in doubt, I find it a good idea to assume good faith, leave a normal welcome (rather than level 1 warning), take some time out of huggling to analyse the user's other edits, work out what their motives are, then try to engage in a friendly conversation and offer help.
- If the above fails you can be pretty sure the person does not want to be constructive, and can then receive stricter warnings for their behaviour and the inevitable consequences.
- I'm not saying that I apply the above with every single edit I do with huggle, but I try to apply it as often as possible.
- I feel I've had most success by simply not templating, unless absolutely necessary. Generally, most 'vandalism' is not bad faith, just simple newbie mistakes or juvenile pranks.
- In answer to your question, if I noticed any difference during the template experiments - I would say at these times there seem to be less direct attacks at me; my talk page and user page, so yes, I think it makes a difference. :-)
- I am hoping to feedback more of my observations to Steven and yourself.
- I hope this helps in some way with your research.
- Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 01:30, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Marek, hope you're doing well!

- They are a huge improvement on the existing ones
- In fact I think we should replace the old ones with them project-wide, immediately, and monitor the results
- I wish you the best of luck with the testing.

I mostly use Wikipedia for info about films and historical bios. Many articles about the entertainment industry (including novels and top hit songs) are amazingly complete. Much of the medical / pharmaceutical info is very helpful-- I know your mission is NOT to suggest areas of needed research--but I wish you would. My area of expertise WAS *digital signal processing* but it is so time consuming to proof-read a mathematical text. I am age 67 living in Cambodia. Anyhow I will continue to point out what I think are areas of omission and warn you of occasional spam and crudities I come across in the body of an article. Marek,
Good to see you the other day at the museum. Quick question if I may... when we were looking at the Stevengraphs (the woven silk bookmarks), can you remember which of us took photos of them? I was going to write up a quick article on them, but can't remember who photo'd them... Cheers! Hchc2009 (talk) 18:38, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I think Marek was the unofficial event photographer, though I think Geni got some good photos as well, and I remember the Chinese gent (Gordon?) taking photos of the stevengraphs. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:51, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Hchc2009 and HJ, I will check again through my photos, but I don't think I have a good photo of the Stevengraphs.

- I too remember User:Geni taking photos at this point of the tour, you could try asking him.

- Hi DJ, thank you for the barnstar.
- In order to upload images, simply go to the following page Wikipedia:Upload.
- It is also listed under Toolbox (left hand column on Wikipedia pages) as Upload file
- Simply follow the instructions there
- i.e. If the image is your own work, click on 'It is entirely my own work' , which will take you to the next stage, recommending that you upload your image to Commons
- Wikimedia Commons is a repository of free content images, sound and other multimedia files, which can accessed from all different language versions of Wikipedia
- Using the upload wizard, you should find the process straightforward.
- If you have any questions or problems, please come back and I will try and help.

A little more care with those buttons, please: this was a good revert but the edit summary makes no sense. Regards, Looie496 (talk) 00:49, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Looie496, thank you for your message.
- I was aware of the edit summary as soon as I reverted. Unfortunately you cannot change the summary after the event. It was supposed to read 'Reverted unexplained removal of content'.
- Huggle appears to be functioning a little weird tonight (for me anyway) Instead of just the diffs, it's displaying the whole page including side menu, and has shifted everything to the right. Also, it is not reverting (or not displaying/reporting revert) immediately. Possible reason could be this (?)

The rule is stupid because it says you cannot make 3 edits on the same page. So if you correct 4 errors, you are punished. Someone needs to re-write the rule or Wikipedia is pretty stupid.
Besides, nobody else discussed it so why are you picking on me? — Precedingunsigned comment added by Wkpeediaerror (talk •contribs) 21:29, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Wkpeediaerror, I'm sorry but I believe you may have misunderstood the three revert rule. It is not that you cannot make 3 edits. Its about repeatedly reinserting material or repeatedly removing the same material another user has removed/deleted. Reverting, re-reverting is called an edit war.
- A revert means undoing the actions of another editor. The 3RR says an editor must not perform more than three reverts, in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material, on a single page within a 24-hour period.
- Please understand I am not picking on anybody, it is just the fact that I noticed that you were a new user (the others have been editing for a while and should be aware of Wikipedia's rules) and wanted to draw your attention to the 3RR rule, in order to prevent you from getting into trouble inadvertently.
- If you find yourself in this situation, it is always advisable to discuss you reasoning on the talk page.
- I hope this explanation helps.

Hi Marek, thanks for the welcome and links to five pillars which I have read. I am new to wikipedia editing and so it seems I may have got off on the wrong foot. I created the dom&nic page because I found the Dom and Nic page and felt it was missing a lot a factual encyclopedic information that I could quickly add with references. Being one half of dom&nic I new the information first hand but understand that it needs to be referenced to third party sources. I totally understand and agree with the rules of COI and have since been advised by another helpful editor that it is not a good idea to edit information about ones self. My intention was only to make an article that is factually interesting, neutral in tone and as comprehensive as possible. I first looked at a number of wiki articles about other contemporary music video and commercials directors and took the lead from these. I was surprised that another editor felt it inappropriate to include a videography compiling the names and dates of work directed by dom&nic and so removed them. I first compiled the list with links to the work on youtube so a reader could see the work in question, this was removed with the comment that this is not a place for people to put links to their Youtube videos. Whilst not fully understanding the problem with this I re-listed the work without the links to the videos but that too was removed. Any advice or help you could give me would be much appreciated. I think it would be good to merge the dom and nic and dom&nic articles as you have proposed. I created the dom&nic partly because I felt nervous about editing an article that someone else had started (silly, I now realise because that is how wikipedia works!!) and partly because we are aways known as dom&nic rather than Dom and Nic. Many Thanks Domley (talk) 12:30, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Domley, thank you for your message.
- The discussion on dom&nic resulted in a consensus to merge the dom&nic article into Dom and nic
- I have now merged the two articles into one: Dom and nic.
- The article you created dom&nic has now been changed into a redirect to Dom and nic.
- It is good that you have taken time to understand Wikipedia's policies - it really helps.
- I notice Tom has given you some good advice, particularly about our conflict of interestpolicy.
- Now that you have disclosed your connection, it would be best to avoid directly editing the article directly yourself.
- If you have any suggestions or proposals to improve the article, please list them on the article's talk page
- If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

- Hi BlakeAllred, thank you for your message.
- There was a missing | (pipe) in the infobox. This character is needed to separate the fields.
- I've added it now, and infobox should work fine.
- Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 02:19, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- Just one more question. Where was the pipe supposed to be? Thanks for the help--BlakeAllred (talk) 02:27, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Blake, if you look at the infobox data:
name = Hunter High School|
image = | caption = | motto = | established = 1990| type = Free public| District = Granite School District| grades = 10-12| principal = John Welburn| address = 4200 South 5600 West. West Valley City, Utah| country = USA|
- The pipes separate one field from the next, in this case they are at the end of each line (but can also be placed at the beginning)

Thanks for adopting me, I went to the bank today to change the name on my account, so I think it's official. The main thing I'm stuck on is extensions, I'm having problems understanding them and worried I might change something in a weird way that will be difficult to fix. The one I want to install I think is http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Header_Tabs#Download
I don't understand how to upload it to an extensions directory, do I need to make one? Basically I just want to have snazzy tabs at the top of the page like a lot of the other GLAM projects.
Many thanks
Mrjohncummings (talk) 18:51, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Marek and John. Marek invited me to respond. MediaWiki extensions are not really relevant to Wikipedia. The extension you are referring to is to provide additional header tabs like the 'User page', 'Discussion', 'Read' and 'Edit' buttons (etc.) that you see on Wikipedia. MediaWiki extensions are intended for installation on your own installation of MediaWiki, the software that powers Wikipedia. So, if you were hosting your own wiki, you could install extensions on it to provide extra functionality that MediaWiki doesn't provide.
- On Wikipedia, users have no such luxury. The wiki is hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation and the volunteer developers and sysadmins are in charge of deciding what extensions run on Wikipedia and other WMF wikis.
- On other GLAM pages, the 'headers' are done by using a template inside the page rather than a custom extensions. Quite how they are done, I can't go onto describe as advanced template stuff is not my forté. You might want to have a look in the edit history and find the person who made the edits which added that kind of tabbed layout and ask them if they could do the same for the page you are working on.
- I hope that helps. —Tom Morris (talk) 20:03, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the prompt response and for the information Tom :-) -- Marek.69 talk 20:08, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yes thanks very much Tom, very enlightening, I'll have a look at the history and see what they did. Many thanks for your help. John Mrjohncummings (talk) 20:36, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- John, it looks like to me that the tab menu you refer to is simply the following page Wikipedia:GLAM/Tab header, transcluded at the top of the GLAM pages
- In order to make your own version of Wikipedia:GLAM/Tab header you would copy Wikipedia:GLAM/Tab header over to your own version of the page; User:Mrjohncummings/Tab header for example, edit it to suit your purposes, then you can insert it at the top of your WP:GLAM/MonmouthpediA page by adding one simple line:

- I'm not sure if this what you were wishing to do.(?)
- Regards -- Marek.69 talk 20:39, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- In other words, placing this code on a page:

- produces this:
Home | About | Contribute | Connect | Bookshelf | List of GLAM Projects | Beginner's Guide | Newsletter |

Question
Dear venerable master
Why doesn't WP:GLAM/MonmouthpediA show up when you type Monmouthpedia into the wikipedia search bar?
Mrjohncummings (talk) 19:39, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi John,
- That's funny, it works fine for me :-)
- I need to type as far as WP:GLAM/Mo before it comes up in the suggestions, though.
- What browser are you using?
- Best Regards -- Marek.69 talk 19:53, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Hey
It works if you start with WP:GLAM but I know some people who only read Wikipedia have not been able to find it because they have just been typing Monmouthpedia into the search bar, the way they are accustomed to searching for things. I guess this is just a function of the search system that it can't find it if you chop the WP:GLAM off the start. Do you think there is a way around this? I guess somebody could make an article about the project, that seems a bit of a round the houses way of doing it though.
Mrjohncummings (talk) 20:11, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Try it now. :-)
- Marek.69 talk 20:23, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Magic Thanks very much.
Mrjohncummings (talk) 20:33, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- I simply created a redirect page called Monmouthpedia :-)

Polish village question
I have been doing some work on the Belarusian Alexander Bogdanov, and I have a book which says he was born in Sokolko in Belorus. Having searched on Wikipedia I came across the village Sokółka very close to the border with Belorus, and not so far from Grodno, which is close to where Sokolko is meant to be. So my question is, has the border been moved so that Sokolko has become Sokółka? I appreciate this is quite an obscure question, but I thought that if you do not know that you might have a contact on Polish wikipedia who could help.? Leutha (talk) 19:10, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Leutha,
- I'm not 100% sure on this one. At the time of Alexander Bogdanov's birth, 1873, Poland did not exist, so Grodno and Sokółka would have come under the territories of Russia.
- I've looked at the pl:Sokółka article on the Polish Wikipedia, but it doesn't mention any other names from this period. The name seems to have remained the same from the village's inception; derived from the Polish word 'sokoł' = falcon, which appear to have been bred in this area for the Polish court.
- I've also looked at the German Wikipedia entry for Alexander Bogdanov, de:Alexander Alexandrowitsch Bogdanow which states he was born in Sokalko which redirects to the German Sokółka page, so I guess Sokalko is the German name for Sokółka? I'm not sure if this helps...
- I'll try to find out more info if I can and let you know...
- Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 21:17, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Adding a reference?
Hi,
I just received a message that my changes I did to the Stockholm page wasn´t approved. I was trying to add a link under reference but not quite sure how to do it...
I´m trying to add a link for cultural accommodation in Stockholm. A way to stay as a local. Is this not possible? I´ve seen other similar types of references so I assumed it was possible.

Hi Marek69 and many thanks for your welcome message! I hope that my work will be a modest but valuable one for Wiki Encyclopedia. I am mostly interested in Arts, High-Jewellery and Lebanon. A strange mix isn't it? Could you please indicate me contributors having interests in the same fields?
Thanks again for your hospitality and looking forward to reading from you soon!

- Hi Hephaistos2011, thank you for your message,
- On Wikipedia we have many Wikiprojects; i.e. group of editors who want to work together as a team to improve Wikipedia. These groups often focus on a specific topic area.
- Among these Wikiprojects, we have WikiProject Arts, WikiProject Gemology and Jewelry and WikiProject Lebanon.
- I think that these would be a good place to start to find contributors having interests in the same fields as you.
- Please come back if you require any assistance.

About the undoing of my change to Talk:Warsaw
Hello Marek69. You undid my change to Talk:Warsaw. I said in the summary I was deleting content out of topic, ie not related to the edition of the article. You said in your summary that talk pages should be archived, not deleted. I consultedWikipedia:NOTFORUM#FORUM. My question is: why should we archive something having nothing to do with the matter in hand? Should we archive spam? The sections I deleted in Talk:Warsaw have nothing to do with the editing of the article - please, check this yourself. If they were out of date discussions on what to do with the article, I agree they should be archived. Please, reply in my own talk page Garsd (talk) 18:04, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Removal of link from Thessaloniki page
I linked to a collection of old photos i have created of the city Thessaloniki, the page is for researchers of the city, of which I am one. Your bot deleted the link, which suprised me as there is another link in the same place for old postcards of the city that just links to external advertising! The link I am trying to add is a legitimate research collection created over 5 years by historians of the city and is the largest collection of old photos of the city in the world.IanThess (talk) 19:07, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Haris Vlavianos page
Dear Marek,

Thanks a lot in advance for your kind assistance and advice.

Executive Director's Barnstar | |
Marek69, I am delighted to award you theExecutive Director's Barnstar, which I give out every now and then to celebrate editors who are making particularly significant contributions to the Wikimedia projects. I was thinking about you the other day because you're organzing the meetup for me in London, and I was astounded to find out that you're not just a guy who's being helpful with me on my trip, you are actually one of the most prolific editors on the English Wikipedia. Since you registered in 2008, you've worked on 6,156 articles, including creating 86 new articles. You've made more than 126K edits, with a total add/remove count of more than 4.7 million bytes. (I know this because the Community Department at the Wikimedia Foundation has been playing around with data, aiming to identify the most active editors on the English Wikipedia, and you are one of them.)
Thank you for everything you've done, and continue to do, for the Wikimedia projects. You are making the world a better place for hundreds of millions of Wikipedia readers :-) If you, or anyone reading this, wants to nominate an editor for the ED Barnstar, please feel free to do it on my talk page.Sue Gardner (talk) 01:15, 24 October 2011 (UTC) |
- Wow! That's amazing!
- Thank you very much, Sue!
- What a wonderful surprise for a Monday morning.
- You've just brightened up my day with this barnstar. :-)
- The meetup in London is not really my organising, though;
- You just happen to be in town at the right time to join us for the 51st London meetup,
- which I believe has been organised by James F from its inception. I'm just a regular attendee.
- I hope your visit to the UK and Europe goes very well, and look forward to meeting you in London.

Stockholm's todo
So you left me a message (automated but still) on my talk page like two years ago saying I could contact you if I had any question. Since then I haven't really done much on Wikipedia but I popped back a few days ago as I again had looked through the Stockholm article an found a few things I wanted to improve and correct. I also checked the To-Do list on the discussion page but it's really outdated. Is there a good way to get that list updated? Is it to ask for the article to be reviewed?Salle81 06:01, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Salle81, thank you for your message.
- I've updated the welcome message to a newer version.
- The To-do list for the Stockholm can be found here: Talk:Stockholm/to_do and you are free to add to/update it.
- If you wish to improve the article and are able to, my advice is please be bold and just do it.
- To find out about the article review process, please consult Wikipedia:Peer review
- If you need any help, please come back to me. :-)

- I will admit that the content that your probably referring to [9], (which already existed) I didn't spot, but I certainly did not introduce/reintroduce it.
- If it is not this content you are referring to (which has incidentally been removed now), could you please explain exactly which edits of mine have introduced offensive content.

- I've tidied the article up a little, but that doesn't guarantee that it won't be deleted.
- It still needs a lot of work. To start with, it needs to be written in a more neutral tone.
- It is also lacking in references. You may find this article useful: Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners
- I also suggest reading Wikipedia:Your first article
- Unless these things are done, I fear that the article will not last long on Wikipedia.

hi!
Thanks Marek! Anything going on I should know about? Any stuff to do? Beyond495 (talk) 03:32, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Beyond495, thank you for your message.
- There's always something to do on Wikipedia. It really depends on what you are interested in.
- One thing you could do is join a WikiProject, so if you are interested in baseball, for example, you could sign up to WikiProject Baseball
- On the project page, there is a section for 'Ongoing tasks' which you may like to help with.
- You don't have to be an expert in the subject or be a 'hot-shot' writer.
- You can start off doing simple tasks, like spell-checking or tidying up articles and work your way up.
- If you get stuck, need any help or advice, please don't hesitate to ask.
- I wish you lots of happy editing.

- Can I do an article on the sports seasons of local high schools in my area? I've heard that they can be ruthlessly deleted, and I wouldn't want to put in all that work just to see it removed. There aren't many, if any, places that have results after a season ends. It seems fair that Wikipedia should hold those results for posterity. Beyond495 (talk) 16:12, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Emphasis on the "ruthless" part (from what I've heard about the people on here). I don't know, you know Wikipedia better than I do. Beyond495 (talk) 16:41, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Beyond495, thank you for your message.
- In order for an article be be included in Wikipedia, it must satisfy the Notability guidelines.
- In the case of a sports related article, firstly it must satisfy the General notability guideline, and then the more specific Sports notability guideline
- If the article can pass both of these, there is a good chance it will remain.
- If not, then I'm afraid that you are correct in what you have heard, it is likely to be deleted.
- I'm sorry if this is the case for your proposed article.
- Kind Regards -- Marek.69 talk 00:50, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, so would a listing of standings from the 2011-2012 high school sports season in Massachusetts meet the portion on that part discussing...
- In cases where the individual season notability is insufficient for an article, multiple seasons may be grouped together in a single article. ?
- You're the expert. I'd like your opinion before I spend any time that might potentially be wasted. I honestly don't get why Wikipedia would delete anything that's reported upon by a mainstream media source. Beyond495 (talk) 02:01, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Beyond495, normally on Wikipedia only professional sports teams are considered notable.
- I think in your case, your best bet is to write something about the team on the school's article. This shouldn't create any problems, as long as you don't go into excessive detail on statistics or suchlike.

- Hi Beyond495, I'm not sure how much luck you will have changing the Notability guidelines.
- These have been developed over a long period of time, through the consensus of many editors.
- However, there is no harm in suggesting modifications to improve the guidelines.
- You can do this by leaving you proposals on the respective guidelines talk pages.
- These can be found at Wikipedia talk:Notability and Wikipedia talk:Notability (sports)

The Wagner article is in need of some help
We're in a bit of a pickle in the Wagner discussion page. The issues concerns Social class (sociology) and the phrasesupposedly common Germanic past and has now been dismissed by some editors as inconsequential. Furthermore, the nameOther interpretations in the article dismisses the general review and broader Wagner analysis to a subcategory under Controversies (mainly the topic of anti-Semitism). Please help. Just take fast look and maybe help in the balancing act. Thank you
- In his own era he furthermore provided the newly emerged middle class with a medium to transfer its familial and political conflicts into a myth of supposedly common Germanic past.
- (In the introduction, removed as non consequential)

Your last message
I just got your message. I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about though, as I've never actually been to the page you specified. Perhaps you got the wrong IP address? — Precedingunsigned comment added by 174.112.232.112 (talk) 18:03, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you for your message.
- If you look at the contributions log for the 174.112.232.112 IP address, you can see than an edit was made on 4 October 2011 from that IP address to the article in question.
- Don't worry though, this is a very common problem for IP editors.
- The most likely reason for this is that you have a dynamic IP address,
- which means your IP could be different every time you turn your computer on, so on 4 October it was probably allocated to someone else.
- There is, however, a very simple way around this, and that is to create an account.
- This has many benefits, the least of which is avoiding situations, like this. All you edits will then be allocated to your user name.
- So, in short, please ignore that particular message, delete it if you wish.
- If you have any further questions please come back to me.

- Thanks for the photo, that was really a great day. The next time I am in Israel I will definitely give you a shout, so you can show me all the bits I didn't get to see. :-)
- I'm still busy editing on en, I've been to quite a few GLAM museum events in the UK recently, and will hopefully be attending the GLAM camp event in a couple of weeks time, where I'll be catching up with a lot of the Wikimania crowd. So, its all good fun at the moment... :-)

- Hi Mohamed, thank you for you message.
- The tools I use are mainly Huggle and AWB (and Twinkle if wish to count as an automated tool)
- These programs are semi-automated tools, i.e. the user generally has to review the edit and make a decision before saving.
- I believe that a bot account is necessary in order to make fully automated edits. I do not have a bot account.
- I use AWB primarily for spell-checking on Wikipedia, although it has many other useful features which I also use occasionally.
- Huggle is an application for dealing with vandalism on Wikipedia. I generally use Huggle when levels of vandalism are particularly high,
- however with the development of ClueBot this is less frequent, as ClueBot does such a good job reverting vandals.
- I also welcome new users to the project using Twinkle as part of Wikipedia's Welcoming committee.
- I would say most of my edits were made with Huggle and now I use Twinkle more, although I do lots of other types editing across the whole project.
- I have even been known to write articles.
- I hope this answers your question.

Hello Marek69,
Thank you for your welcome. I must confess that I really hesitate if stopping contributing on en:wiki and perhaps on it:wiki (I have about 200 posts there) for the same reason. Wikipedia has become land of conquest for ultra-nationalist groups that pretend to write from scrap the history of their countries. Croatia is an example. Read pages like "Croatia" and you will understand what I mean (I left some comments on the talk page, should be the last posts on the page). The entire page is an hymn to their country and they do not hesitate to include suspicious sources or false information. Is this acceptable? On top of that the page is blocked for modification by the administrators (most of them Croats) and any modification that is not of their taste is qualified of inappropriate. At some point a non-Croat administrator will have to take care of it! --Silvio1973 (talk) 16:20, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

The page "Healthcare in Croatia" is the exact copy (copy/paste) of the section "Healthcare in Croatia" in the main page "Croatia". Benefit corporation
I just noticed what looks like a promo for B Lab on Benefit corporation and tried to clarify. I think the "third party certification" from B Lab may be confused with a "state charted benefit corporation".
Did you notice the article for Public-benefit corporation? I think both entities are the same and should be merged or one redirected to the other, but I not positive that they are the same. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.31.117.62 (talk) 15:51, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Violette Beauregarde/Violet Beauregarde
I am curious as to the reason for the creation of this new stand-alone page for Violet Beauregardes. I can't see that there has been any discussion which has arrived at a consensus for this content fork. It seems that a previous stand-alone page has already been merged into List of characters in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The title of this new page has also misspelled the character's first name. Unless there's something I'm being dense about (always possible!) it seems to me that it would make sense to delete this page as a duplication of material which alread exists in the other article.--CharlieDelta (talk) 15:08, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Monmouthpedia rejig
Hey Marek
How's things? So my little project in Monmouth has got big all of a sudden (me and Victuallers are on Radio 4 tomorrow!). The structure of the site is not great and I'd like to do some major renovation work. I have a new structure planned out that I think will work well but I want to take bits from existing pages and combine them with bits from other pages, I really want to maintain as much of the history of the pages as possible. I know I can move pages and combine them and split them but I'd like your wise words on the best way to do this and just to make sure I'm not going to breaking anything technical Victuallers has done.
The existing structure is here and the rough new layout which all just scaffolding so far ishere
Any wise words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated
All the best

RfA nomination
Hello,
I feel that you have done a great job over the past few years on Wikipedia; therefore, I would like to nominate you for RfA. I see you are an Administrator hopeful, and therefore I ask, to avoid embarrassment over you declining an RfA nomination, if you would like to be nominated.
Best, Gold King Tut (talk) 03:02, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Goldkingtut, thank you for your kind vote of confidence. :-) I am very sorry to have taken so long to reply to you, but I've been going through a very busy period at work.
- Its really great that you think that I could be an admin, and that you are even prepared to nominate me.
- I thank you for this and will certainly contact you at an appropriate time in the future when we both have a 7 day window free.
- Unfortunately at the moment I am overloaded with work, and participating in a RfA would be very hard to squeeze in.
- For this reason I would politely ask you to postpone my nomination to a later date.
- I do intend to run at some point and before that will spend time improving my knowledge of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, which I feel is currently below the expected standard.

Hi from Feilding, New Zealand
Hi John,
Congratulations on your great work on Monmouthpedia. I just came across a BBC online article about it, and think it's fantastic, and also important to have some content rich and correct information about a place online. I'd like to start a similar project with the town of Feilding in New Zealand.
I'm new to Wikipedia, but am confident that I'll pick it up pretty quickly. I got in touch with someone from Wikipedia and they gave some great suggestions to get started, including contacting you and creating a post online to generate some interest. So, I created [here on Wikipedia.]
I guess my two biggest questions at this stage are how to get Wikipedia endorsement (I suspect it is partly through generating excellent online content) and setting up a page like you've done for Monmouthpedia.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hey is there a way of embedding http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/Reports/2012/January#Monmouthpedia intohttp://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/MonmouthpediA/Achievements#Press_Coverage ? I embedded the articles section like you suggested, works like a charm, thanks.

- Hi John :-)
- You could move it into Wikipedia (as a sub page) and then translude. -- Marek.69 talk 22:48, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

John Paul II
Here's my first little contribution to John Paul II - [11]. I've also borrowed two books on John Paul II from the library, specifically to address the development of Wojtyla's philosophical and theological work before becoming Pope. If you think more might be needed on his contribution to Vatican II, it'd be handy to know sometime before about 11pm tomorrow so I can make plans in London. As I said, I have access to some pretty amazing printed sources, so if you can work out what you need, just shout and I'll see what I can do.
That reminds me, perhaps we need an IRL London FA meetup. I know WereSpiels does FA stuff, and both Ironholds and Fae have contributed to FAs. But it'd be interesting to collectively pick a topic of shared interest and work on it collaboratively. I'm sure with a bit of nudging, WMUK might let us use a room for this kind of thing. —Tom Morris (talk) 17:20, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

- Tom, some new sources would be great. I think most of the article is pretty well referenced overall, but could always do with some new ones. In particular in the criticism and sex abuse sections. I could do with coming to a meetup, :-) --Marek.69 talk 23:40, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
I've done a bit of work on it, but I'm running headfirst into the problem that I'm one of these pesky English types who demands philosophical clarity rather than phenomenological mish-mash. That said, I've started a draft at User:Tom Morris/Person and Act on one of Wojtyła's pre-papal publications based on some of the sources I've dug up in the library. It's difficult to edit the article in its current form because of the article organisation. With philosophers, the article neatly splits off into biography and thought, but with John Paul II, it's hard to mix in the philosophy/theology. The focus of the article is rightly on his life after becoming Pope, and so everything pre-papal is preparatory for his life as Pope. Mixing in theological bits and bobs is hard, but I do think the article would be a lot weaker without some discussion of his thought. Any ideas on how to sort this out? —Tom Morris (talk) 14:36, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
