Turn the other Cheek

I just wanted to ask you - how do you interpret the words of Jesus that is to turn the other cheek? Do you take a simple approach it is as it says it is, if someone hurts you you turn to them the closest equivalent to the other cheek in said situation? It is a tricky issue to draw the line with this verse, at what point and how are we allowed to retaliate, and at what point are we not to? Plus, I thought I'd tell you something you might be interested in, did you know "Lord Yahweh Jesus Christ" in what's believed to be Jesus' first language, Aramaic, is pronounced: "Maryah Yeshua Meshikha" and that's the title he's given in the Peshitta (pronounced: pe-sheet-ah). - Fusion809(talk) 14:41 UTC March 22 2012.

Suicide cat

Okay, so you're adamant that you're doing the right thing, can you explain why I made this reversion since it was a suicide, and it was in Vermont, so "Suicides in Vermont" seems a perfectly legitimate category? Are you sure you're using HotCat correctly? The Rambling Man (talk) 21:50, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

I think both the book articles that I started are fairly notable and there is no reason that they should be removed.Yes both were short but i think they could have stayed on as stubs. Here are the reasons

1-THE MINE---> Reviews by *ibnlive**DNA*and*Telegraph all of which are very respectable Indian publications.

Then there is Media Coverage on two occasions in *The Hindu* ;on one occasion in *DNA* also it finds coverage in *MSN India* and *Sify*

2-MAY I HEBB YOUR ATTENTION PLISS---> Reviews by *DNA**Deccan Herald**Indian Express**Times Of India*;all of which are very respectable Indian publications.

Then there is the Media Coverage on two occasions in the *Deccan Chronicle**DNA*also it finds coverage in *Indian Express**Asian Age

There are various other mentions and reviews of the two books, some of which I have made on the pages themselves and rest of the others you can find at "http://greatbong.net/the-mine/" and "http://greatbong.net/book/".

Mr Clementi et al

I have, I think, stated the issue clearly at The Article's talk page. I thought you might appreciate seeing another person's interpretation of the discussion and to confirm (or otherwise) my understanding of the situation you have been looking at. I think it reflects what you have explained to me and hope sets it out in such a way that folk like me who need spoon feeding can understand it. I think defining what we need to discuss in this way prior to discussing it can be helpful.

You will see that I am sympathetic to the view that some categories are at best debatable, though others are 100% appropriate. I am not yet sure what do do with the imperfect categories, though. I am purposely not looking at policies and guidelines. This may be a time for WP:IAR, except that of consensus, obviously.

Now, if this discussion reaches a conclusion for Mr Clementi and his untimely death, it ought to hold good for the other articles, and simply needs to be lodged somewhere that it can be referred to easily, perhaps as a transcluded rationale on each article's talk page. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 00:32, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

I'm sure you are watching the Clementi talk page and seeing the discussion. While I don't think you will agree with the outcome that is 'building', I think you will appreciate the arguments being presented. I do feel your opinion should be heard in the current consensus building. Dissenting voices are as important as those which agree. I hope you will participate. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 12:14, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Theatre category talk pages

Hi Koavf. I notice that you have been putting tags on theatre category talk pages. Good for you. I am curious about something, though. Why do you sometimes use a state specific tag, such as WikiProject Michigan on the page Category talk:Theatre companies in Michigan, and sometimes use WikiProject United States on other pages such as Category talk:Theatre companies in Massachusetts. Is there a technical reason for this? In any case, thanks for helping with all those messy theatre categories (I created a lot of them.)

Your answer may be of interest to other people, so I suggest that you reply here. I will watch your page.--Foobarnix (talk) 23:00, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Tags As you might notice, some of these WikiProjects about states have their own templates (e.g. {{WikiProject Michigan}}) and some of them have tags that have been deprecated (e.g. {{WikiProject Massachusetts}}.) These templates have been made part of {{WikiProject United States}}, so users can add (e.g.) MA=yes to mark something as part of WikiProject Massachusetts. For what it's worth, I had nothing to do with these decisions. —Justin (koavf)TCM05:09, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your illuminating answer. Now I am curious as to why some states, such as Michigan, have not yet had their tags depreciated. It would seem simple enough to do. I dislike inconsistency. As a category maven, do you have any opinion about the best way all this should be handled? Is the whole subject in a state of transition?--Foobarnix (talk) 07:52, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Consistency I'm all for consistency myself, but I haven't followed this. My understanding is that the US WikiProject is absorbing all geographic and cultural children, but I'm not certain. This happens sometimes. Take, for instance, the tag {{WikiProject Algeria}}, which is a stand-alone that is not incorporated into {{WikiProject Africa}} and {{WikiProject Arab world}}... —Justin (koavf)TCM07:54, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Courtesy I'm glad that you were notified (by WP:TWINKLE) and I'm glad that you were so thoughtful and gracious in your response. Clearly, the majority agree with your assessment... —Justin (koavf)TCM19:41, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I never heard of TWINKLE before. What is that ... and what does it have to do with the proposed deletion? I read the link, but I did not see how TWINKLE has anything to do with proposed deletions. Is TWINKLE some type of system that notified me, when you proposed deleting that article? And, if so, how/why did TWINKLE select me to receive notification? How does all this work? I never heard of this before, so this is all new to me. Please let me know. Thanks! As I said, I read that link ... but I could not understand what the TWINKLE link had to do with notifying me of the proposed deletion of that Academy Award age list. Thanks for any information or insight that you can offer! Please reply at my Talk Page. Thanks! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:48, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Twinkle This is a script that puts little tabs at the top of the page to provide extra functionality. As you can already see, on this page you have "edit this page", "talk", "history", "move", etc. Twinkle adds others like "xfd"--which allows me to mark articles, categories, templates, files, etc. for deletion. One of the additional functions is notifying the creators of this content. Consequently, I chose the article for deletion, but Twinkle did the work of notifying you. There are no bots or scripts that run around deleting content--it is always decided by actual human beings--so you don't need to worry about your contributions magically disappearing. Please let me know if you need any help in the future or if this was confusing. —Justin (koavf)TCM19:37, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Yes, that makes sense. So, whom exactly does Twinkle notify, in the event of a proposed deletion? Just the creator of the article? Or other editors as well? I am trying to figure out why I (specifically) was notified. Is it because I created the article? Because I am a frequent contributor? Or what? In other words, what are the criteria that causes someone to be notified by TWINKLE, when an article gets proposed for deletion? Thanks! Please reply at my Talk Page. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 20:33, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Notifications You were notified because you were the initial contributor (creator) of the content. Otherwise, it's just up to users who watch that page or who patrol deletion nominations. —Justin (koavf)TCM18:35, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
OK, great. Thanks for the information and clarification! Much appreciated! Thank you. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 18:45, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Care to comment?

Hi. Would you like to comment here? An editor proposed to note all the tracks that the credited people on the album are on, such as: (bullet) Name - instrument/role (track #, #, #, etc.). I don't have much precendant, but the guidelines at WP:Albums show differently (Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Album_article_style_guide#Personnel) I am arguing that the editor's addition is undue. Oregon categories

Wow, how did you find all those categories!? I programmed AWB (searched Category:Oregon with user-defined recuse to some ridiculous level) to find some that weren't tagged recently but I obviously didn't find them all. Thanks for tagging them! (please reply here) Valfontis (talk) 03:19, 20 March 2012 (UTC)

Process This is the first run--the second will be more in-depth, but it was pretty straight-forward:
  • Category (recursive): Category:Oregon
  • Right click on list: Convert to talk pages
  • Filter: Keep all titles containing "Oregon", keep pages in the following namespaces: Talk, Category talk, File talk, Wikipedia talk, Template talk, Book talk
  • More: Prepend {{WikiProject Oregon}}
  • Skip: If page exists
  • Profit.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense. —Justin (koavf)TCM03:24, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Also There is an AWB plugin for tagging, but I've never used it. Plus, I'm not a regex expert, so I'm sure there are very simple ways to make this more extensive and efficient that I simply don't understand. —Justin (koavf)TCM03:25, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Ah. I did all that, keeping only category talk pages, except I think I was having it skip pages that already contained the words "WikiProject Oregon", 'cos I figured some of them might have already been tagged with another project and weren't blank. I must have done something to have it skip a majority of the blank pages. I just deleted a bunch of saved settings because I can never remember what I was using them for. If I get this right I'll have to save the settings with a really descriptive file name. I reinvent the wheel every time I use the thing. Thanks for the help! Hallo, here and in 2 similar cases you wrecked a redirect by eliminating its content and calling it a stub. I've fixed them. Please take more care - even when using AWB to help, you are responsible for all your edits. Thanks. PamD 08:13, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Stipe reversion

Hi Koavf, Recently I made an edit to the infobox in Michael Stipe, which you subsequently reverted. You cited "template instructions." I looked over the template and couldn't see anything contesting my original edit. Could you please clarify?Bjones (talk) 14:07, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Wikinews

We do not typically put links to Wikinews within the main part of medical articles. We do put them in the section at the end sometimes as seen here Suicide#External_links. Thanks Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 06:49, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to ask for a second opinion at WT:MED. We do have a manual of style here WP:MEDMOS --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:31, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
By we I mean the editors with Wikiproject Medicine. We typically put the links to sister projects in the external links section. Feel free to fix those if they are not working. There is currently consensus that medical articles are not for current news and a doubt per WP:DUE the wikinews links presented so prominently would be approved. --Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 08:07, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Chris Bell and Fran Healy (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I had questions about two of your edits to Live at Angkor Wat. On this edit you changed the title of a reference (changing a hyphen to an en dash). I know that this is the proper style for content on Wikipedia, but shouldn't we leave the titles of references as the original writer intended them? On this edit what was the purpose of the infobox image change? There was an image before and now there is only a red link to a nonexistent image (I can't find the old one any more either). Thanks for your help! —danhash (talk) 15:15, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

A suggestion

This is only a suggestion, you are of course welcome to discern for yourself.

But I think it might be a good idea for you to minimise your interactions with User:Kiefer.Wolfowitz.

Of course, post notices about XfD noms, and engage in such XfD discussions. But while doing so, please consider your own words and tone, and try to not get sucked in by any negativity or rudeness. WP:COOL may be a helpful page for this.

At this point, several editors are aware of the situation, and honestly, I'd like to spare you any further drama : )

Happy editing : ) - jc37 18:24, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Sure I just figured I'd take a look at some of his category edits--I don't have any interest in poking around his contributions further. If you've seen anything that I've written that's inappropriate, let me know. —Justin (koavf)TCM18:28, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
No worries.
As for past examples, while well-meant, when I saw this, I cringed a bit. As we saw, it probably didn't calm or resolve things as much as you might have intended it to.
While there was nothing necessarily greatly wrong or incorrect about this message, aggressively drawing a line in the sand in the way you did probably wasn't the way to go in this case.
If confronted with a similar situation in the future, my suggestion would be to just skip this step, and go seek out another editor, as you intended.
In the case of KW concerns, User:Good Olfactory, and User:Worm That Turned (among several others) would seem to be good choices. And I note that you did go to GO.
I hope this helps. - jc37 18:50, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

I have deprecated WP:SORT to target Help:Sorting. For former usage just use WP:SORTKEY. Just letting you know as I noticed you were using it in the former way fairly often. - jc37 00:22, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Sure Let me know if you need help. —Justin (koavf)TCM00:24, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but already done : ) - jc37 00:26, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Template talk recent changes

Hi, is there any way I can hide you when I view recent changes, as on this page it is really annoying to navigate (I'm not saying I don't like you :P). |Randomno| WP 08:53, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Calgary municipal election, 2010

Please use caution when removing asterisks from cat sorts, I have reverted your edit to Calgary municipal election, 2010. Thanks, 117Avenue (talk) 04:04, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

WP:SORTKEY Why would you use an asterisk to sort anyway? —Justin (koavf)TCM04:11, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
I was not, I was using an asterisk for a footnote, and your automated system thought it was a sort key. 117Avenue (talk) 04:40, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
Ah So sorry about that. I'll take a look at those edits. Sorry. —Justin (koavf)TCM04:41, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the portal talk page tagging

Thank you for your helpful edits to Featured Portal talk pages including Portal:Criminal justice and Portal:Supreme Court of the United States, as well as the new one I created, Portal:Freedom of speech. Much appreciated! Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 18:36, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome

I think you're the first person to thank me for creating Portal:Freedom of speech. Still working on it, it's not quite completely done yet, but it's nice to feel appreciated! Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 18:56, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh yes, that's a great article. I once modeled another bibliography page after it, actually. ;) — Cirt (talk) 20:03, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Good source?

Hi, can you help me? According to this article on msn (in Danish), was justin bieber themselves have said that he suffers from ADHD. Is the source reliable enough to use the wiki? And in which case, would you help me to write it into the article about him? Good, Easter here from. Mvh. 109.232.72.49 (talk) 19:27, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

When adding WikiProject templates to Years category talk pages

Could you remember to also add {{WikiProject Years}}. This will eliminate the need to revisit all these talk pages. __meco (talk) 21:11, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Sure I can definitely tag categories with this, no problem. —Justin (koavf)TCM21:12, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry I didn't read your edit notice, but then again you missed mine as well... I'm glad you will oblige! __meco (talk) 21:33, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I want to add that my practice and understanding is that such categories as Category talk:2nd-millennium establishments in Pakistan, i.e. all of the backbone of the years categories also should be added to the same WikiProject. __meco (talk) 10:29, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Right I can do that as well--I'll just do them all in one fell swoop. —Justin (koavf)TCM13:19, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
You continue to add templates to these categories without adding the Years project. I'm curious about why that is. __meco (talk) 20:53, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Rationale Because--and I tried to say this above, but I did it in a vague way--I'd like to do the {{WikiProject Years}} tagging all at once. That is to say, I'll go back and do it when I'm done with my current tasks. Maybe in several days. —Justin (koavf)TCM20:54, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Ah, ok.. I didn't quite get that. You get so many more edits to your credit that way. __meco (talk) 09:01, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
Well That's true, but it also keeps me from screwing up, which is more important... —Justin (koavf)TCM09:02, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Pakistan tagging

I was just browsing through this category three hours ago and it had around 14,100 articles. I checked three hours later and suddenly it was 15,000! And then I went through your contributions log. Just want to give a warm thank you for the great work. There is currently a tag and assess initiative being held by WikiProject Pakistan, please feel free to join if you're interested. I for a fact know that there are still possibly hundreds of Pakistan-related categories and articles that need fresh tagging, you're help in that regard has been much appreciated. Cheers, Mar4d (talk) 12:08, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

  • Thanks I appreciate the heads-up and I've noticed that this is a problem--I hope that there can somehow be resolution to it. I've given my two cents, but I'm going to class soon, so I'll check back later to see if it's gotten any action. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:27, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

New Page Patrol

Hi Koavf,

I saw that you are patrolling new pages and was wondering if you could patrol from the back, it's a lot more efficient.

Thanks, Athleek123 (talk) 04:43, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

ok well looking at the log you have been patrolling a lot so just an idea Athleek123 (talk) 05:06, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Your work on George Orwell bibliography

FYI, I mentioned your work on George Orwell bibliography at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Amendment#Request_to_amend_prior_case:_Cirt_and_Jayen466. — Cirt (talk) 06:47, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Editnotices

Hello, Koavf, {{PAGENAME}} works just fine, any specific reason you changed it ? Mlpearc (powwow) 18:57, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Take a look Your version created a link to Template:Editnotices/Page/Led Zeppelin, mine created one to Talk:Led Zeppelin, which is presumably where that discussion should be held. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:03, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
If you clicked on the link on the template page it will take you there, if you clicked on it from an edit window at Led Zeppelin it will take you to talk:Led Zeppelin. I've been checking other templates, here is Van Halen's click here [2] then click the "Talk page" link on the editnotice... did it not take you to Talk:Van Halen ? Mlpearc (powwow) 19:10, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Ah Brilliant--I didn't even think to try it there. That actually makes a lot of sense. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:12, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Great. But thanks for the heads up. Cheers Mlpearc (powwow) 19:32, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
