Colonel Losito

[edit]

Feliz 2010, Jor!! XD

Thanks for the link, it's sad to know that Losito is in jail now, but Cristina and company have made of the ideological witch hunt one of the pillars of their 'government'. Cheers!--Darius (talk) 23:47, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ELMA !

[edit]

Hola loco, feliz 2010! Thanks for this "stubbie", I've been thinking on this article since long ago but was unable to find reliable online/written sources to do it. There's a lot of room for expansion... Regards, DPdH (talk) 01:04, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you check the background details and suggest a cite, there is an editor who is removing content claiming it unsourced. I don't know the background well enough but I have seen that material elsewhere. Justin talk 10:20, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

about descent ? You have the famous May 1982 Oriana Fallaci inteview made from Spanish magazine Cambio 16 copied here [1]. Eran obreros pobres, pronto hicieron fortuna --Jor70 (talk) 10:33, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks its cited, do you want to check my translation? Justin talk 11:13, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No prob, but its is descended from Italians or I'm descended from Italians ?. Also grandfather is from Genoa and grandmother from Calabria: very diff places. --Jor70 (talk) 11:22, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers. Justin talk 11:50, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your Question

[edit]

A normal flight is 4 aircraft in 2 pairs.

It specifies a flight of 4 aircraft, each of which carries 3 x 500 lb retarded bombs (I would guess probably Snake Eye). Justin talk 12:24, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!, I knew about the flights but I wasn't sure about the translation. --Jor70 (talk) 13:57, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FAA translation

[edit]

Could you answer a few questions about this piece of text from here please:

  • The Dagger's belonged to Gaucho flight, yes?
  • Do you know what "BRP" bombs are?
  • Just to confirm: Lt Aguirre's Dagger did not join the mission due to a fault with the "brakes" yes?
Does it means rain/weather forced them to divert from their mission?
  • What is "GAL"?

Thankyou for your help. Ryan4314 (talk) 15:22, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BRP are parachute retarded bombs obtained from Spain. I believe the bomb is a Mk80 series copy but the tail is of Spanish design.
Lt Aguirre's Dagger was scrubbed from the mission because of brake failure.
la lluvia translates as rain, so yes its a weather diversion.
GAL is the airbased at Rio Gallegos
I think the translation is "Flight of Six Daggers from Rio Grande, escorted by Mirage 3 from Rio Gallegos"
Jor70 and Darius' Spanish is better than mine so I guess they can add a lot more. Justin talk 15:28, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

BRP means Bomba Retardada por Paracaidas and is a 500 lb retarding tail made by Spanish Expal-Explosivos Alaveses. About the rain, is said that they changed route but continuing the mission. The planning was to be six Daggers aircraft from Rio Grande plus MIIIEA Rio Gallegos escorts (two as flight Triton). The other 3 daggers ( one return soon after take off due an undercarriage problem and the other two saw (sic) a PAC near San Jorge island so released external loads and returned to base ) --Jor70 (talk) 15:38, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What's a PAC? Ryan4314 (talk) 16:04, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that would be spanish for CAP --Jor70 (talk) 16:54, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As an aside I found you a cite for the lifting of the UK arms embargo on Argentina. Justin talk 15:56, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, please have the honour to add it --Jor70 (talk) 16:54, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Roll of honour

[edit]

Hello again, do you know where I can find an Argentine roll of honour please? I'm curious to find out how eight men of 5th Regiment (RI 5), 3rd Mechanised Infantry Brigade were killed. They were apparently stationed at Port Howard. Ryan4314 (talk) 15:03, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean a list of who have died ? mindef website has this [2] ( click on siguiente ) and if I counted right they are 648 (?? I always knew 649)
About RI5, army site has this [3] : 1 during Dirty War, 4 during harrier attack on 26may and 3 in in Hospital 10/15jun (textual, is not clear what happened according what said there) --Jor70 (talk) 18:55, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I counted 25x25+23=648 too. Ley nacional 24.950/98 contains 647 names excluding "Alberto Edmundo Gómez" and "Adolfo Ernesto Molina" from "General Belgrano". Ley nacional 24.950/98 got 55 from Fuerza Aérea Argentina, 371 from Armada Argentina, 194 from Ejército Argentino, 7 from Gendarmería Nacional, 2 from Prefectura Naval Argentina and 18 Agentes civiles. The two missing sailors are on the mindef list, so who's missing this time? --Regards, Necessary Evil (talk) 13:43, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Must be a typo on the mindef list. On 2006, at Libertador Building, the same mindef inaugurated a memorial with 649 names on it [4] [5] --Jor70 (talk) 14:50, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Argentine Naval Aviation

[edit]

Nice work, Jor70! Now I'll have to get work on my United States Naval Aviation - can't laet the world's largest naval aviation force not have an article! I was quite surprised there wasn't one already. - BilCat (talk) 10:15, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm also shocked to discover there is no article for this. It seems the United States Naval Aviator article, is the closest thing to it. Ryan4314 (talk) 15:02, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lot of history, aircraft models, airbases, traditions I can easily imagine why nobody start it :-) --Jor70 (talk) 18:51, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of "free" time buddy! ;) I had been drafting an article for a while, but never finalised it to my satisfaction. 8( So kudos to you, brave editor! BTW, seems that you've pruned the corresponding section in Argentine Navy, so tat would be the basis for this article? Job well done!

List of aircraft of the Argentine Naval Aviation

[edit]

Jor, I've moved the list you created to this name to keep it consistent with other similar lists. Hope you're happy with that. And thanks for creating this list!
Also I've added (out of memory!) some historical aicraft, and will try to locate some books in the basement (when???) to add more and provide references.
Finally, in its "talk page" I've left a question to you (& other wikipedians) to clarify its scope (only historical? or also currently operated?).
I better go to bed now! 8P Kind regards, DPdH (talk) 13:30, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Argentina Portal

[edit]

I know you are doing good work on Argentina-related articles. I'd like to talk about the lack of Argentina editors. We used to have many and they have faded years ago. I'd like to remind people to become a member of WikiProject Argentina and contribute there to coordinate efforts. Also to remind people to add your contributions to the Argentina-related regional notice board so we can all be informed of new pages or major article rebuilds. Now, to get to the main point of this message. Years ago the Argentina Portal was neglected for lack of maintainers. I became the de-facto main (and sole) editor in 2008 and have been adding news and contributions to the article/image of the month features ever since. I requested some collaboration at the time but nobody came forward. That is fine. I am not asking for contributions and I plan to keep on maintaining the site. I feel it is important to show a good image of Argentina to the en.WP community and to the English-speaking world at large. Hence the interest in having a good-looking, properly maintained portal. What I am asking for is a second set of eyes to look at it, comment and criticize, and to suggest good articles/images for the monthly feature. I know we are all busy with our own projects in Wikipedia. I am not asking for edits, just for suggestions when you come across a good article or image. Let me know by Talk message or email, and I will do the work of posting it (hint: I post article/image of the month way in advance to ease the load). I would like to get the Argentina Portal to Featured Portal status, but it is not easy to do without some help. At least C&C. Thank you for your attention and sorry for the long-winded message. -- Alexf(talk) 13:34, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will gladly report any thoughts and I will continue to post my new articles at the notice board --Jor70 (talk) 14:57, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have started today a new feature: "Anniversaries". It is still very empty and needs info. I am looking at the es:Portal:Argentina to get some information from their "efemerides" section. Not all is relevant to the English Wikipedia but there are some good ideas. My goal is to slowly populate it, concentrating first ont he upcoming days and not to leave any redlinks in it. Thanks for any help you can provide. -- Alexf(talk) 16:01, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, Thank you for the photo you found of the improvised Exocet launcher. I have been telling everyone for about a month, that it was a trailer and not truck. Again, thanks. JACK --Jackehammond (talk) 08:34, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A quick question. I thought the C-130 story was a cover to hide the fact that the launcher was transported on the hospital ship Almirante Irizar in a breach of the Geneva Convention? Justin the Evil Scotman talk 11:30, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
where did you read that ? according [6] first hand story were two C-130. and why are you evil now ? --Jor70 (talk) 12:19, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Razor's Edge by Hugh Bicheno. A quick perusal of the Operating Data Manual for the C-130 puts a twin launcher beyond the payload capability for a single lift. Two lifts makes more sense.I'm evil because I'm being blamed for several conspiracies against wikipedia...Scottish humour and a song see [7] Justin the Evil Scotman talk 12:45, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know how reliable this Hugh Bicheno could be but I can imagine if something like that ever happened would be published and blamed in hundreds of books, stories, etc --Jor70 (talk) 12:53, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hugh Bicheno's book is techincally titled the unofficial history of the Falklands War, but I'm sure we can come to some sort of compromise. Ryan4314 (talk) 18:30, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS Argentina

[edit]

Como va eso, Jor. I was checking out available info about the chance of a licensing like cc-ar-presidency for the Ministry of Defense or other official institutions. We should contact the people of Wikimedia Argentina. I found an e-mail adress there (correo@wikimedia.org.ar) where we can make a request. The alternative is to suscribe to WK-Argentina outright and get in contact with the guys (and gals :) there. Un abrazo.--Darius (talk) 12:04, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Argentine Meteors

[edit]

Evening Jor70. Do you know the answer to this? When Argentine Meteors were reclassified in the early 1960s from interceptors (serials I-xyz) to fighter bombers (C-XYZ), what happened to the number? Did that remain the same? Given that there are plinth mounted specimens up to at least C-093 suggests that only the letter changed, since there were only 100 aircraft, but the FAA might have compressed the list for losses over the first 15 years of service. The question is really, is C-095 the same airframe as I-095, or not? If you know, and especially if you have a citeable ref, that would be great! The problem arose in putting together a List of surviving Gloster Meteors. Thanks for anything you might come up with.TSRL (talk) 22:18, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, although there were a few airframes rebuilt with diff numbers. If you are a Meteor fan this may be interesting for you [8] (complete data of each airframe). You have some info here too: history[9] and fate [10]. The I- serial was assumed by the F-86 Sabres from 1962 and from the MIIIEA from 1972. Hope that helps! --Jor70 (talk) 00:55, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! The question came up with the List of surviving Gloster Meteors that I recently started. I've added a note along your lines but have still to sort out a few duplicates. Hope the book may remove a few queries on identities. Cheers, TSRL (talk) 11:23, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Balsa "Atlantis" y un pedido

[edit]

Jor70, could you review this edit to the Embraer/FMA CBA 123 Vector, and see if there is anything usable here? Muchas gracias. - BilCat (talk) 16:44, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The IA-68 mockup is at the Museo de la Industria (Industry Museum) at Cordoba [11] [12] but I will need to recheck old Aerospacio Magazine issues to really know the story but giving the years gap I could guess the -68 was nearly cancelled when the CBA123 and this was a perfect chance to relaunch it We must remember the context: after the FK war the democratic government has different budget priorities than of the Junta and the national integration and joint ventures with Brazil was the new tendence --Jor70 (talk) 18:02, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I hope to be wrong, but I fear that we have no chance to get it on Wikipedia. I will not give up, however, and I will contact you if there is another way to upload the pics here. Best Regards.--Darius (talk) 16:20, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sobre "White Argentine"

[edit]

--Jor70 (talk) 22:08, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Falkland Islands Article in Arbitration

[edit]

Having briefly reviewed the article's discussion history, I've identified you as a potentially aggrieved editor whose contributions may have been negatively impacted by the actions of a group of editors who are alleged to be POV-pushing and engaging in WP:GAMES. I invite you to peruse the arbcom request and voice your opinion and experiences, at your leisure. The link is:

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!

Thank you,

Victor Grigas

Museo Nacional de Aeronáutica de Argentina... sources to expand?

[edit]

Hi Jor! Wish you're doing well, so long since our last contact. I want to expand the Museo Nacional de Aeronáutica de Argentina wikiarticle, with verifiable sources of course, and discovered that not only there are nearly none available online but also that the museum's website hasn't improved since 2010... Any hints please? Thanks & regards, DPdH (talk) 12:25, 9 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pics nominated for deletion in Commons

[edit]

Hola! I've just noticed that of 4 pics that you've recently uploaded to Commons, 1 was nominated for deletion on 13-May and is now deleted, and the other 3 (A4Q, SUE, Exocet ITB) have been nominated for deletion on 20-May. What is required is proof that they were published at least 20 years ago. Check details in your Commons page. Regards, DPdH (talk) 14:51, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Fails WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

A tag has been placed on Category:Argentine Navy squadrons indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read!
