Page stubs for Christan wicca & Christopaganism

[edit]

I Put those pages up because in a world were bigotry is rampant many Christo faith Wiccans, Pagans, and neopagans are "hiding in the broom closet". So I made the stubs to give the two similar yet separate paths each a page so that whom ever shall have more knowledge can add some.Iamiyouareyou (talk) 18:41, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Christan wicca has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

selfpublished book of dubious importance

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Melaen (talk) 23:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Christan wicca

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Christan wicca. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Christianity_and_Neopaganism#Christian_Wicca. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Christianity_and_Neopaganism#Christian_Wicca - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions.

No point in creating a duplicate article with a mis-spelled title. No point in creating a duplicate article unless you have something extra to add to what is already in Wikipedia. PamD (talk) 13:24, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your actions at User talk:Jccope1029

[edit]

Please do not encourage new editors to make bad edits by disparaging another editor. Whether you agree or disagree with Nymf is irrelevant. You need to think about what you've done. You removed a valid welcome message that had useful links that the editor in question obviously did not read before continuing to make inappropriate edits. Nymf's warning was a second warning, and that's the correct thing to do when the first warning has been ignored. You have NO business removing, changing or striking the comments of other editors, nor do you have the right to frame your comments as a personal attack, by using words such as "brash" and "mean". If you had something to say you could have added it, you could have given your cookies, even a bunch of flowers if you felt so moved, but you must leave other comments alone unless they breach a Wikipedia policy. If User:Jccope1029 wants to remove the comments, he/she can do so, but not you. I will restore that page. I will leave your comments as they are, except to remove your personal attack which is not acceptable per WP:No personal attacks. Rossrs (talk) 15:43, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flan etc.

[edit]

(see also Talk:Crème caramel) Hi, thanks for contributing to the Crème caramel article. I have a few comments which I hope will help you edit this and other articles more effectively.

You have changed 'flan' to 'Flan', arguing that 'flan' is a proper noun. Do you have any evidence for that? Why is it not a common noun like other names of dishes, e.g. pizza, roast beef, moussaka, etc.? Do you have any reliable sources backing up your claim?

You have also added vertical whitespace presumably to make the photos format better. Unfortunately, that method is not reliable -- as WP:PIC says, "Remember that text will flow and wrap differently for other users, based on their chosen browser, screen resolution, default font size, accessibility options, number of toolbars and sidebars (such as instant messaging panes) and more. Do not force page design just so that it looks pretty on your display. Hack only where absolutely necessary. Wherever possible, just use the simplest logical page flow."

For the capitalization of section headings, please see the relevant section of the Manual of Style.

Thanks again for your interest. --Macrakis (talk) 20:52, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I Still feel that flan should be capitalized bu since almost al dictionaries I looked at list the word as a common noun I will leave it lowercase.Iamiyouareyou (talk) 22:00, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Iamiyouareyou,

Several issues here:

  • Why are you capitalizing crème brûlée when the capitalized form is very rare both in French and in English according to Google ngrams?
  • You give as an etymology of "crème brûléecaramel":
"From early 20th century French meaning 'carmel custard'"
Footnote: Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Edition (1989); Petit Robert 1973.
First of all, "carmel" is misspelled here (I corrected it, but you changed it back) and appears nowhere in the OED 2nd edition (online) in the sense of 'caramel' (though it appears in Mt. Carmel, the city of Carmel, a woman called Carmel, etc.). Secondly, I don't see any place in the OED or in the Petit Robert where it dates this as "early 20th century French" or as meaning 'caramel custard' (the OED's definition is 'a custard coated with caramel', and it gives no etymology for the phrase, which is in any case transparent). Third, the Petit Robert (as it happens, I have the 1973 edition on my bookshelf) doesn't even mention crème caramel, though it does mention crème renversée, which is the same thing. The closest I can see is the OED citation of the 1906 Mrs. Beeton, which says "Crème Caramel renversée. Caramel Pudding.".

I would appreciate understanding where these discrepancies come from. Thanks, --Macrakis (talk) 03:59, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note to let you know that the page move from Template:LGBT sidebar to Template:LGBTQ sidebar has been undone. It is fine to move uncontroversial page names with no discussion, but adding the term Genderqueer to LGBT is not uncontroversial. If you still think the page should have a different title, please follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves so that any move is done with the full knowledge and consensus of the editors of that page. HI Iamiyouareyou. Thanks for creating these. There's some question over whether its a good idea to have these or not, so I moved them to your userspace for the time being: User:Iamiyouareyou/Incremental service awards. There's a thread on the talk page of Wikipedia_talk:Service_awards#.5Bfine_graded.5D_Incremental_awards.3F if you want to make a case for these. Herostratus (talk) 20:01, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Genderqueer pride flag for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Genderqueer pride flag is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Genderqueer pride flag until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:50, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, definitely don't merge the two articles; freerunning and parkour are two different practices. Instead of overlapping the two articles, we should add emphasis into each article about how the two differ. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.219.134.72 (talk) 20:17, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Namespaces again

[edit]

I don't think Incremental Service Award really belongs in article-space - is it really meant to be an encyclopædia article? If it's a draft, it might be more appropriate to work on it in userspace. If it's supposed to be a genuine policy/system, it might be better placed somewhere like this. Should the article be deleted? bobrayner (talk) 15:47, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Incremental Service Award has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia-specific content misplaced in article namespace; duplicates a page in Wikipedia namespace at Wikipedia:Incremental service awards. No salvageable encyclopedic content.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Barack Obama

[edit]

I just reverted your edits to Barack Obama. The website listed should be the home page, not a sub page. Also, reliable sources refer to Obama as "African American" and do not refer to what "percentage" of same he might be. Our article must reflect what is said in reliable sources. -- Scjessey (talk) 16:46, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please consider self-reverting this edit. It is essentially a violation of Wikipedia's policy on biographies for living people because it adds unreferenced, potentially controversial original research to the article. -- Scjessey (talk) 17:18, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't stop edit warring, you are likely to find yourself formally warned for it. Please self revert your edit to Barack Obama. Please discuss this further on the article talk page if you feel strongly about it. -- Scjessey (talk) 17:39, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not edit-war. The topic is a perennial non-starter, and extensive qualification about "percentages" sheds no light on the subject. The appropriate place to discuss this is on the talkpage, although nearly everyone is tired of fielding daily questions against consensus. You may consider this a formal warning concerning edit-warring. Acroterion (talk) 17:48, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
