Fishpond and Mighty Ape
I noticed that you prodded Fishpond.co.nz and Mighty Ape. I have removed the prod from the former only because another editor removed the prod from Mighty Ape. These two companies are direct competitors and are probably of approximately equal notability. The two articles should be treated equally on Wikipedia, unless of course someone can find significant sources for one of them but not the other. I have no connection with either other than having placed occasional orders with both. Feel free to take them to AfD.-gadfium 20:50, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Your involvement with DRN
Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Hope to see you again soon :) Steven Zhang (talk) 13:19, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Sacred Band
"Primary topic" is not a matter of which article you think is more important. It means that when you type a term into the search box, you go to the primary topic article. If you type in Sacred Band, you go to a disambiguation page. Sacred Band of Thebes is therefore not primary topic and should not have a hatnote. The guideline uses the examples defamation and Defamation (film). The "Defamation (film)" article is not primary and therefore does not have a hatnote. Epaminondas of Thebes (talk) 04:26, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I noticed that when I start typing "sacred band" into the search bar, by the time I get to "sacred ba", the first option in the drop-down list is Sacred Band of Thebes, which I think many users may click on. So it's not which one I think is most important, but which article(s) people may end up at. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 04:33, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, and a Google search for "sacred band" put Sacred Band of Thebes as result #1. All in all, I think many readers will end up on the Sacred Band of Thebes page, so that page should have a link to the disambiguation if that's not the Sacred Band they were looking for. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 04:33, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- To get to the article, either through the search box or Google, the reader currently has to click on "Sacred Band of Thebes", so I don't see how removing hatnote creates any ambiguity. Anyway, we can get around this problem by moving Sacred Band to Sacred Band (disambiguation), and then setting the redirect to Sacred Band of Thebes. Epaminondas of Thebes (talk) 04:54, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
- It is waaaay too late for me to think clearly about this...I don't know, do what you feel makes the articles easiest to navigate. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 04:56, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello
Hi, I'm one of the users on whose page you left a cookie! Thanks for the cookie! I have a couple of questions and i would be grateful if you can help me out. I have run into some trouble with the article http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Swami_Nithyananda.. One of the users who is editing there is a PR person of "nithyananda" himself. I'm betting for this user to come back and revert my edits because this particular user has been in many edit wars on the same article before. I would be really grateful if you can give me a link to the detailed rules regarding these following topics:
Wikipedia's rules regarding self-publishing and Biographies. Wikipedia's rules regarding references (And what qualifies as a reference). Wikipedia's rules on edit/revert wars.
Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lookinhotbra (talk • contribs) 18:28, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sure, the relevant policies here are Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:Edit warring, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest (if you think that one editor is closely connected to the subject), and WP:Identifying reliable sources. Those should cover it, I think.
- Two things though...first, if someone reverts the edits you made to the Swami's page, do not revert back, as that's how edit wars start. Instead, discuss the edits on the talk page. Second, which account do you think is the PR person? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 18:44, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the useful links!
I have also left a message on the talk page. The possible PR person is the user named Acnaren , He has been a wikipedia member since 2009 and only does edits on the swami's page. He had also previously removed any statements in the article regarding the crimes committed by the swami even though they were referenced using leading indian daily newspapers. Thanks!

Opting in to VisualEditor
As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable
". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:13, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Please advise on how to deal with vandalism and edit warring
Hi, Acnaren came back and reverted all my edits on Swami Nithyananda.I had deleted some articles on that page because they violate wikipedia's policies of WP:NOR and WP:SPS, Acnaren started edit warring without even discussing on talk page. Acnaren has also been deleting pretty much every article with valid references from national newspapers. Please advise on how to deal with this type of vandalism and revert wars...A couple of other users had also raised these rule violations on the talk page, But these notifications of wikipedia's rules were ignored, and they seem to kinda have a monopoly over the page bulldozing any other user even if we stick to the rules..Can i report these users to someone??? Please help!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lookinhotbra (talk • contribs) 05:13, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- I think you and Sean.hoyland are working the problem out nicely. My suggestion would be to propose any further large changes on the talk page first, before you make the edit. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:11, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Can this be removed from archive because it isn't resolved?
http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard/Archive_78
The story so far is that we have an airforce user providing a speed at a specific altitude and the company who produce the aircraft verifying it as possible. I can't understand why substantiated new information like this isn't sufficient for an article update.
The other side is relying on a magazine reprint of legacy press release figures and calling it a secondary source. As regards this let me draw your attention to the following:
http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:USEPRIMARY#.22Secondary.22_is_not_another_way_to_spell_.22good.22 From from the above: "Characteristics of a secondary source: "A secondary source usually provides analysis, commentary, evaluation, context, and interpretation. It is this act of going beyond simple description, and telling us the meaning behind the simple facts, that makes them valuable to Wikipedia." Jane's fulfills none of the criteria mentioned in the sentence above wrt the Typhoon Mach figure and has remained stagnant (not updated) since 2003. There is no discussion of the initial press released speed figure nor analysis of it. Z07x10 (talk) 22:29, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
Furthermore http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:USEPRIMARY#Not_a_matter_of_counting_the_number_of_links_in_the_chain: "Consider the simple example above: the original proclamation is a primary source. Is the book necessarily a secondary source? The answer is: not always. If the book merely quotes the proclamation (such as re-printing a section in a sidebar or the full text in an appendix, or showing an image of the signature or the official seal on the proclamation) with no analysis or commentary, then the book is just a newly printed copy of the primary source, rather than being a secondary source. The text and images of the proclamation always remain primary sources."
In this instance Jane's is not a secondary source.Z07x10 (talk) 16:15, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm gonna be honest with you, and say that I have no idea what to think about the dispute. Re-list it on DRN if you want, but I don't think I'll be able to provide much more help here...my apologies. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 17:12, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Hoping for help regarding list policy
In this edit you mentioned that lists do not need as many citations. I am kind of confused about the policy because I am just listing people for whom we already have articles, and their date of birth and date of marriage are both listed on those articles. Someone is removing both my reference notations (which list that data) and entire entries, but I am confused about why. If they are taking issue with this information, shouldn't we be addressing that on the specific people's pages rather than on a list overview? Ranze (talk) 15:37, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I'm not entirely sure why they're removing names myself...you'd probably be better off asking TheRedPenOfDoom directly, either on Talk:List of child brides or TheRedPenOfDoom's talk page. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 15:40, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 1
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited San Giorgio-class cruiser, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Italian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Steelbro
Hi I've tried to start the Steelbro page but it seems a bit too hard having done the work two months ago. As there are multiple references within Wikipedia to this company I don't understand the problem here. I will leave this to someone with more motivation to share this history, as I won't resubmit. - Hi, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you, I had to log off shortly after I tagged your page. The problem with that page is that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a social network. There was nothing on your page that was like an encyclopedia at all; it looked like you were trying to set up a "hangout" page, which is not what Wikipedia is for. Please find them provided. I could use some help on verifying them by you, and also some pure wikiediting/coding to change the title form Bailds to Baildsa. The provided links are in English and Bulgarian so google chrome translator would be useful to understand, what they say. Cindy Bir article sourcesThank you for your help with my question about my Cynthia Bir article. I disagree that YouTube is off the chart for a source. All the spirit and wording of all the policies stress that reliability is a balancing of many factors. YouTube is generally not a reliable source per se because 99% of its users are not professionals or notable organizations, however, many such do utilize YouTube as a means of publication. The video I referenced was a a National Geographic episode, and NG is a WP-recognized entity. The proof that it's official is substantial. Beyond appearing completely official by its content (the people it features, etc.), the user account is the official YouTube account of Ryan Doyle (who's featured in the video), who's WP entry (which I started) has stood solid long-term. (Other Fight Science videos are posted from various accounts, and by YT policy, you shouldn't post the same video twice, so it's entirely feasible that NG would allow Doyle to be the poster for this video.) If by this information you still think the video is a poor source, could you please direct me to the policy information you feel supports your view? Honestly, I'm a bit fatigued arguing the reliability of notable sources that utilize YouTube as a means of publication. It's our only job to filter information, so why should we rule out a source simply because it requires heavy filtering to get at the reliable sources? Perhaps I shouldn't have listed it as the first source? Maybe I should put it lower so it doesn't raise an immediate eyebrow? I'm confused why you think personal biographies can't be utilized in combination with objective sources, especially from a reputable University. From everything I know, solid sources can be used it combination with sketchy sources in a balanced whole. By your logic, wouldn't this rule out all autobiographies ever published as being able to be quoted in encyclopedic content? Thank you so much for your help! (You can reply here.) a1thanks a lot matey, I owe you one. Cheers (Dave006 (talk) 18:12, 7 January 2014 (UTC)) Quick deletion processHello Howicus, Though I agree of expanding endlessly Wikipedia contents is senseless but many famous persons/places have their pages both in English and in their native language. It is the same in this case. Due to that intention you can immediately delete Budapest either in Hungarian or in English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Koti.hung (talk • contribs) 18:23, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
